Soldiers come

and go but the

name always re-

mains. The Out-

laws have seen

many new faces

in the past few

months and with

that comes a

newer family

added to the Al-

pha Detach-

ment. We have

welcomed new

Soldiers and

NCOs as well as

new Command.

When there is a

Change such as

command then

there is a re-

freshing order in

how things will

be handled and

implemented.

Author John C.

Maxwell once

said that ‘a

leader is one

who knows the

way, goes the

way, and shows

the way”, which

is all in truth

when speaking

of Alpha Detach-

ment, the puzzle

is complete with

the perfect

teams set in

place. We have

adapted very

well to all the

new changes

that came our

way and with

new leadership

in place, all Sol-

diers and NCOs

have the ability

to learn, lead

and teach oth-

ers. There is

nothing in the

way of accom-

plishing our mis-

sions and be-

Before you walk, you must crawl and so the Outlaws took a basic

map reading class given by SGT Hays,D. in order to obtain a re-

fresher on their map reading skills which included the proper

way to hold a compass and familiarization with terrain associa-

tion. Afterwards, a second class was given by SGT Mari on the

use of Defense Advanced GPS Receiver also known as DAGR

which included key features and benefits. Once the classes

were completed, the Outlaws were given three points to plot

onto the DAGR in order to apply their new knowledge into ac-

tion . Everyone was able to take turns using this system and all

points were found resulting in a successful training event!

BABYSHOWER

N O V. 15-D EC. 15

Family is always important in everyone’s life and it is no

different for the Outlaw family. Alpha Detachment got to-

gether to throw a surprise baby shower for PFC Smyton

who was more than ready to deliver her bundle. With a si-

lent “surprise” whispered by everyone including our Civil-

ian counter parts, it was a success! PFC Smyton soon wel-

comed a 9lb/20oz, 21inches long baby girl named Ashlynn

on December 3, 2014! Congratulations to the Smyton

family on their newest addition! This is an addition to our

own family as well, we welcome baby Outlaw Ashylnn with

open arms!

PROMOTION CEREMONY

To be promoted is always an honor, it is the

next step in every Soldier’s journey to con-

tinue pushing for that next rank! PFC Veloz

was promoted on the 25th of November

2014. Many things were said about PFC

Veloz and her pursuits in the Military. Her

goals include pursuing a Degree in ac-

counting and to become a subject matter

expert in her Mos of Finance! She is well

on her way to accomplishing all of those

endeavors and she definitely has the right

leadership to guide her every step of the

way towards those goals!

“Our greatest

weakness lies in

giving up. The most

certain way to

succeed is always to

try just one more

time.”

-Thomas A. Edison

On Tuesday, November 25, 2014, SGT Hays, D

had his re-enlistment ceremony. To raise your

right hand more than once is true commit-

ment from any standpoint. SGT Hays chose to

continue to support and defend the Constitu-

tion, this is a very honorable as well as unsel-

fish step towards something more. He and all

others who re-enlist inspire younger Soldiers

to continue to serve the United States!

In preparation for the M16 range, the Outlaws ventured off to

Vilseck for engagement skills training or EST which consists of

virtual marksmanship firing. In a training session given by SGT

Hays, C., SPC James and PFC Gregory, the Outlaws were well

prepared for the Qualification range in the following week. Dur-

ing this training, all Soldiers were able to group, zero and qual-

ify virtually with their M16s or M4s. The Outlaws left feeling

confident in their skills and were ready to take on the range!

Rain and cold weather did not stop the Outlaws from

heading to the range to qualify with their M16s on

December 11, 2014. Through well planning, the Out-

laws were all able to qualify and ended up having 2

experts, 9 sharpshooters and 1 marksman. Prepara-

tion and training pays off because many improved

their score and for those who are going to the board

or are trying to increase their points believe that to

be true. The opportunity to go to the range does not

come around as often as many would like and de-

spite the weather, this turned out to be a successful

training event!
