More than 115 new citizens from 23 different countries will make the affirmation to become Austral- ian citizens. The citizenship ceremony will be administered by Mayor Damien Ryan in conjunction with Territory Day and held in the Civic Centre Function room at 9am. The proceedings include the taking of the oath and affirmation of all candidates, followed by the pre- sentation of a Certificate of Austral- ian Citizenship by Mr Ryan to each conferee. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Mr Ryan will conduct an affirmation ceremony. This is a short ceremony at which all Australians are given the opportunity to publicly affirm their loyalty and commitment to Australia. Everyone is welcome and partici- pation is voluntary. This year’s Territory Day citizen- ship ceremony will see a diverse range of people from a variety of countries such as the Philippines, South Korea, Nepal, Zimbabwe, India, Belgium, Namibia, South Africa, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, China, Pakistan, Fiji, Kuwait, Kenya, Sudan, Italy, Canada, Bolivia, New Zealand, Czech Republic and United Kingdom. Anyone wanting to go the function is asked to arrive early.
