A Retreat in Daily Life in Lent (30 March to 13 April 2019)We invite you to make an intentional effort during Lent to draw near to the Lord daily in prayer through a retreat in daily life.

What is a retreat in daily life?It is a season when you intentionally create a space in your daily life to be available to listen to God in prayer. As the name suggests, this is a retreat you do in the course of your daily life and not at a retreat centre.

What is involved? You would need to intentionally set aside 30 minutes each day for 2 weeks to listen to God through Scriptures. You will be guided on how to do this. Scriptures and other helpful material for prayer will be given to you. A trained spiritual director will meet with you several times during the 2 weeks for about 45 minutes to talk about your prayer and day-to-day experience so that together you can discern the Lord’s presence in your life. The time with your spiritual director is provided as a safe and sacred space for you on this retreat. You are required to attend the opening and closing sessions of the retreat on 30 March and 13 April respectively, 9.00am to 1.00pm.

What some have said about being on a retreat in daily life:• It has taught me how to allow God’s words to be “Hidden in my heart,

that I might not sin against Him.”• It helped me to fulfil my desire to have a closer relationship with God and I’m amazed and often surprised by God’s words speaking life into my daily situation.• It has helped me to enjoy my prayer time.• I got to know God in an intimate way that I have never known Him before.• The sessions with my spiritual director were edifying and helped me to be more aware of God’s working in my life.• It is the best investment of my time!

Please register early at the Contact Point as places are limited. For further information, please contact Soo Hoong ([email protected]; tel: 6285 1234 ext 115)Retreat Period: 30 Mar to 13 Apr 2019 Venue: Haven, in Fellowship Hall Cost: $20 per person Closing Date: 17 Mar 2019

Matthew 20:1-16 The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard20“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.

2 He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.3 “About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4 He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ 5 So they went.

“He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. 6 About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’7 “‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered.

“He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’

8 “When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’9 “The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. 10 So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11 When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. 12 ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’13 “But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? 14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
