To begin this week’s newsletter I would like to start by apologising for no newsletter being published last week
but thank everyone for their support.
The Staff and Students huddled together, used what natural light was available and thought up
inventive ways to continue their learning. Needless to say it was a freezing experience that we
don’t wish to go through again.
Wow!!! This week has been
On Monday we, our middle school boarded two buses and made their way to Phillip Island Adventure Resort.
Their the students participated in a variety of activities including a beach walk, archery, giant swing, flying fox,
canoeing, a visit to the Nobbies and themed activities.
This year the MLC designed their camp around this terms inquiry topic- Mythical, magical and fairy tale
creatures. The students have been reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone so decided to transport
themselves to Hogwarts via a 9 and ¾ bus.
I would like to thank all of the Teachers and parents for their hard work, dedication and
participation on camp- You made this camp excellent but, especially the students. We often say
we do it for the kids but these kids did it for us! They were Everywhere we went, during every
activity the students were respectful, supportive, challenging, caring, persistent, confident and
risk takers.
Tuesday morning I asked every person on camp to make three goals- One about what they want to physically
do, one about a friendship they want to make or improve and one about a value they want to demonstrate. That
night I asked the students how many had achieved three, two or one of their goals. Almost every student had
achieved at least two of their goals. As Teachers, nothing makes us prouder.
The camp Staff were very impressed by our students. They commented that our kids are so polite and
appreciative of everything. They also commented how the students knew the behaviour expectations and how to
meet them. One worker even said that she can’t believe no student has been put into timeout at all!
Before I finish my brief wrap up from camp- More to come from the kids next week. When we arrived we
learnt that the head chef at Philip Island was a former Cockatoo Student- Matt was able to recall some fond
memories of our school and his time with Mrs Boucher. Another proud Cockatoo moment!
