A guide to your benefits This guide provides a brief summary of the range of benefits available to all staff through our Showing we care about you programme. Further information about all the initiatives is available on the Benefits pages on GTi (the Trust intranet).

Our Showing we care about you programme offers you a wide range of benefits and support to help in your professional, personal and family life.

Whether it be the generous annual leave entitlement, on-site gym facilities, free physiotherapy, our training and development schemes or support for parents and carers – all staff can benefit from our Showing we care about you programme.

On-site gym facilitiesThe Thomas Guy Club provides staff with access to two well equipped on-site fitness centres and a 25 metre swimming pool. Classes include functional training, yoga, jujitsu, circuits and more. Membership starts from only £20 a month.

Support for cyclistsOur Cycle to Work scheme (see Financial wellbeing section) encourages staff to take healthier journeys to work and between sites. Staff who cycle are supported by our active Bicycle Users Group (BUG) and regular Dr Bike sessions which provide free on-site bike services (repairs are provided at a cost).

Wide range of active programmesYou can also benefit from a range of other physical activity programmes including the Workplace Challenge, lunchtime walking groups, Zumba classes and inter-departmental sports matches.

Help to quit smokingA comprehensive range of stop smoking services and support have been developed for Trust staff who want to quit smoking. A regular clinic is provided on both hospital sites offering free, personal, confidential support and medication for staff who want to become smoke-free.

PhysiotherapyOur Occupational Physiotherapy Service is dedicated to supporting Guy’s and St Thomas’ staff who are suffering from musculoskeletal conditions that impact on their work. Staff are able to self-refer to the service which aims to help you return to work, stay at work, or work more effectively.

Flu jabsTo help protect you, your patients and your families, all staff are encouraged to have free flu vaccinations every year.

Discounts at the British School of OsteopathyStaff qualify for the ‘community partnership’ reduced treatment rate forosteopathy appointments.

Eye testsA free, professional, on-site optician service is available to all staff during pre-arranged periods. Details of when this service will next be available is outlined on GTi.

Comprehensive policies and supportive cultureWe have a comprehensive work-life balance policy which outlines the way in which staff can maintain a suitable balance between their home and work life. Flexible working options and support for those who care for others are backed up by campaigns such as ‘HALT – take a break’ and monthly Email-free Fridays.

Family and childcare supportThe Trust offers parents a choice between childcare vouchers and the Government’s new Tax-Free Childcare scheme, enabling parents to select the most tax-efficient option for their family. Support is available for emergency childcare, and information on finding childcare for older children can also be provided.

Support for carersOur Carers’ Pack aims to help staff who have caring responsibilities and includes information on carers’ assessment, carers’ allowance, legal information, useful contacts and other agencies who can provide support.

Buy and sell annual leaveEligible staff can buy and sell up to five days holiday a year, providing flexibility when you need it and helping to promote a good work-life balance.

Dietitians at WorkOur occupational dietetic service provides staff with dietary advice and a dedicated weight management service. This can be part of a group or on a 1:1 basis.

Healthy eating at the Trust Our restaurants and cafes at both hospital sites provide a range of freshly prepared, healthy meal options. Our 5 ways to a healthier YOU dietitians work with our catering team, and other onsite providers, to ensure we offer a wide range of healthy choices. We are also improving the out of hours options available. Information about our restaurants, menus and nutritional information are available on GTi.

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)The EAP offers fast access to counselling and expert help, either by phone or face-to-face, when you need it. Experienced, professionally qualified counsellors and information specialists are available to offer guidance on wellbeing, family matters, relationships, debt management, workplace issues and much more.

The service is:

• free of charge to the user

• available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year

• provided by an independent organisation

• confidential

• accessible by phone, email, website and via instant messaging

Personalised information on lifestyle and wellbeing can also be accessed using the EAP interactive wellbeing portal available via the website and app.

Happier@work programmeThe Happier@work programme is aimed at improving staff wellbeing within the context of the realities of NHS working life. Free courses, workshops, and activities are available including stress management, mental health awareness training for managers, and mindfulness courses are available to staff across King’s Health Partners.

Support tailored to youOur Occupational Health team can provide a wide range of psychological support, from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help following distressing incidents.

Our multi-faith spiritual care team offers a confidential service, 24 hours a day, and helps with all aspects of pastoral, cultural, spiritual and religious care.

NHS Pension The NHS Pension scheme is one of the most comprehensive and generous schemes in the UK. Contributions are tax-free and membership provides valuable protection for your family, including life assurance and a pension if you are too ill to work. We also provide retirement and pension planning courses to help you understand your options for the end of your career.

Local and national discounts There are many places where your Trust ID badge can save you money. Visit the staff discounts pages on GTi. Register on Communic@te to post and view other offers, discounts and tickets available to staff.

Staff discountsAs a member of staff, you are able to access lots of offers and discounts – including an exclusive shopping online discount programme providing savings from major retailers, such as subsidised Microsoft Office for home use. You can access the whole range of discounts via GTi.

Credit Union servicesThe Trust’s Credit Union offers a range of everyday financial services with a simple deduction from your salary. In partnership with London Mutual, this staff benefit gives you access to savings accounts, ethical payday loans, current accounts and Christmas Clubs.

The Trust offers a number of schemes which enable you to give up some of your cash earnings in return for non-cash benefits, taking advantage of tax and national insurance savings on some schemes. Please note: salary sacrifice may not be suitable for all staff:

Cycle to Work schemeIf you travel to work by bike, then take a look at the Cycle to Work scheme. It allows you to buy bikes and accessories at a discounted rate from a range of shops across the UK.

Childcare vouchers If you pay for registered childcare it might be cheaper for you to pay for it with childcare vouchers and have the cost deducted from your salary, which can lead to savings in tax and national insurance contributions. You have until 31 March 2018 to register for childcare vouchers - the scheme will then be frozen to new entrants.

Staff loans The Trust may be able to offer an interest-free welfare loan to you for sudden and unforeseen circumstances. Visit the GTi loans pages for more information and the terms and conditions.

Travel season ticket loansBuying a travel season ticket for work can be costly. To help spread the cost the Trust offers an interest-free loan up to 100% of the value of the season ticket for eligible staff.

Lease carsEligible staff can use a sacrifice salary scheme to access a brand new lease car.

Home electronicsThe scheme includes computers, TVs, white goods and mobile phones. For more information visit the reward and benefits section on the intranet.

Education, Training and DevelopmentWe believe that all staff are entitled to, and should be encouraged to take part in, lifelong learning and career development. The Education, Training and Development (ET&D) department, Simulation and Interactive Learning (SaIL) Centre and Postgraduate Medical Education Department organise and deliver a wide range of internal courses. These include induction, mandatory training, personal development, leadership programmes, programmes for newly qualified health professionals, accredited diplomas, university study days and modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Coaching and mentoringOur award winning coaching and mentoring service is designed to support individual development and release the talent of our staff. Both coaching and mentoring have a positive impact on personal, professional and organisational development.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)The Trust seeks to support you with your CPD, whether through funding, time off or a combination of these. There are a range of internal and external opportunities to enable you to be involved in CPD activity.
