1910 Work on town begins.

1914Fairfield Works opens.

1919 Fairfield incorporates. A. Clinton Decker is first mayor. Fairfield Hospital, which became Lloyd Noland Hospital, opens.

1945 Current City Hall building is completed with assistance of Works Progress Administration.

1950 Baseball great

Willie Maysis graduated

from Fairfield Industrial High

School.

1960 City’s population peaks at

just under 16,000.

1970 Western Hills Mall opens.

1972 Belleview Plaza opens.

1988 Larry Langford becomes first black mayor of Fairfield.

1993 Fairfield Civic Center is completed.

2006 Miles College purchases former Lloyd Noland site from HealthSouth.

2009Lloyd Noland Hospital is

demolished to make way for Miles College North campus.

City Council votes to allow electronic bingo.

2010 City celebrates centennial.

1913 Name of town changed from Corey to Fairfield.

1907 Miles College builds at cur-rent site.

1931 Actor George Lindsey born in Fairfield.

2004 Parisian announces it is leaving Western Hills Mall, J.C. Penney and Firestone follow to make room for the Walmart Supercenter.

Lloyd Noland, which became HealthSouth Metro-West, closes.

1928 Fairfield High School built for whites,

Fairfield Industrial High Schoolfor blacks.

1938 Industrial High School burned.

New school built in 1940.

1991 Flintridge Centre opens.
