INTRODUCTION
These recruitment notes have been prepared as part of the CGIAR Gender Program's supportto the international agricultural research centers supported by the CGIAR. They aredesigned to assist the Centers' efforts to strengthen the recruitment of women professionalsand scientists for international staff positions.
The need for the Centers to strengthen mechanisms for reaching women in recruitment isevident by the fact that in 1992 women accounted for only 8% of the pool of applicants forinternational staff positions in the CG System. This is less than the proportion of women(12%) in international staff positions in 1991.
The notes provide information on a wide range of professional organizations and contactswhich can assist Centers to cast their recruitment nets more widely in order to generate alarger and more diverse pool of applicants.
The notes serve as an information supplement to the guideline paper on policies and practicesfor strengthening the recruitment of women for international staff positions within theCenters:
Guidelines for Strengthening the Recruitment of Women Scientists and Professionalsin the International Agricultural Research Centers, by Sarah Ladbury.

RECRUITMENT RESOURCES IN THE USA
The following is a list of scientific and professional organizations that have indicated thatthey will advertise CGIAR position announcements. The list, organized by discipline, provides information on total membership, the number or percentage of women as members, services offered and fees. All telephone, fax numbers and addresses are located in theUnited States and would therefore require the appropriate dialing prefixes. Individualsidentified as contacts have been informed of the CGIAR's effort to broaden their recruitmentefforts. The contact people listed under Services for each entry have been identified as themost appropriate person to address when sending or enquiring about advertising. Othercontact persons included below the address are in positions to disseminate recruitmentannouncements to the appropriate audience of women scientists, engineers, technicians, andagricultural development specialists.
Information is provided on purchasing mailing lists since direct mail of job announcementsto women has proven to be effective in mobilizing applications.
An alphabetical list of organizations is provided at the back of the document (pp. 27-28)
Note: N/A= Information not availableIndicates disciplines with high percentages of women in the USA
