A Message from the President

A ll indications are that our club’s future is once again secure. We have a full slate of officers, the consoli-dation of the Northeast and Southeast regions into

one East Region has been completed and Laura Schrock #1407 has stepped forward to serve as Newsletter Editor. Thanks to Tom Wilby #1450 for the years of service he has given as the Newsletter Editor and his willingness to help

Laura transition into her new position. We also owe a debt of gratitude to our outgoing President, Walt Sullivan, for guiding the club through these transi-tions.

The 2012 Rally at Willow Tree RV Resort in Longs, SC was rated a big suc-cess. Nancy’s and my gratitude goes out to all who attended and worked so hard to make everything happen. There were 15 rigs and a cabin occupancy, which gave us a total of 31 attendees. The RV Resort itself is awesome and Manager Tammy Watson and her staff bent over backwards to ensure that we enjoyed their facility and had everything we needed. Each day started with a grand gathering and fellowship among friends. Isn’t that what the Te-ton Club is all about?

As we go forward I, too, hope to be able to continue to strengthen the club. The economy has given us a knock for sure. Past President’s Message

Well, Here We Are At The TCI International Rally...Where Are You?

F or those who attended we had a great time and as always a learning experience. This is the close of my term as President and I’m Passing the Baton to Peter Greig #789. Your 2013 President will lead us forward with his large smiles, jokes and character references which

we all need in this depressed economy. Welcome Peter Grieg #789 and thanks for doing the task ahead of you.

This year's TCI Rally left us with the wants and needs to rally forward into the future. As membership declines and our wishes inclines, take the time to invite a Tetoner to rejoin and reinforce this group of your family of friends. I wished that I could have taken all the e-mails and suggestions I received in 2012 from this group and made those wishes come true. And my wish for 2013 is that those that keep suggesting step forward and help improve and support your membership.

Forks RV was unable to attend this Rally through missed communications on our part . Many Tetoners received information and generous gifts and door prizes were provided from Forks RV. Thank you Jay Troyer for Forks RV support. Forks RV Manu-facture is showing they want to help support this group. Out of that someone will buy one of the finest fifth wheels being built today.

We have only opened the door to Forks RV Manufacture in a small way. Maybe in the future Forks RV and Tetoners can be-come closer in our Family Of Friends circle.

Gosh as I was writing and rewriting this short exit note, Tetoners have stepped up! As we leave your 2012 Rally all office posi-tions are filled! “Hear say” we have future offices that Tetoners will want to step up and fill . Thanks Tetoners.

“YOU CAN REJOIN IF YOU NO LONGER HAVE A TETON"

Previous Teton owners who have purchased a different rig can and do rejoin. Become one who helps continue this Club.

For fear of missing many names I will only say thank you to all Tetoners for reaching out and helping me through this season.

Thank you.

Walt Sullivan #1286, Past President 2012

TCI Business Meeting Summary

T he business meeting at Willow Tree Resort was called to order by TCI president, Walt Sullivan #1286.

Minutes, an audit report, and the treasurer’s report were all presented and approved.

Dennis Inman #1184 was elected 3rd VP. He will tentatively hold his rally in Elkhart, Indiana in 2015.

Bob Clark #1313 was elected 4th VP. With the assistance of the Godwins #835, their rally will be held in 2016.

Stephanie Engel #316 was elected Secretary/Treasurer. Several people ran for the position and were thanked by everyone at the rally for stepping up to help.

Laura Schrock #1407 agreed to take over the club’s newsletter, after transition help from Editor, Tom Wilby #1450. The Board and membership spoke highly of Tom’s excellent newsletters, and extended their appreciation for a job well done.

By-Laws and Amendment Changes were made:

Article I-2 (Membership) was changed to be consistent with a by-law change made two years ago. It now reads, “The TCI, Hereafter called “club,” shall be a non-profit organization made up of private owners of approved recreational vehicles, paying annual dues to the International Organization.”

Article I-7 (Membership) was changed to read, “Anyone that is current on the payment of dues shall have the right to vote at the International business meeting.”

Article V (Elected Officers) was changed to add additional confidentiality to member information. It now reads, “The Interna-tional Secretary/Treasurer shall control the money assets; shall cause a fiscal year-end report to be published in the first newsletter of the new fiscal year, showing the balance of all accounts; shall provide for an annual audit of the books prior to the annual business meeting; keep and maintain a confidential data base of past and current members; and should attend all International rallies.”

Article VIII-3 (Definitions) was changed to include the TCI Board in major appointments. It now reads, “APPOINTED OFFI-CERS: Non-voting, shall mean the Newsletter Editor and Webmaster. These positions shall be appointed by a majority vote of the Board. Committee Chairs as appointed by the President.”

Article VIII-3a (Definitions) was added. It reads, “Webmaster: The webmaster must request permission of the Board to move ‘tetoners.org’ from the current web hosting provider to another. This requires a majority vote of the Board.”

Teton Tillie’s Tips

S o, you’re checking out a camping site to see if it suits your needs and you want to know if your satellite dish has a clear view of the satellite. SatFinder (Satellite Finder) is a smart phone app which will help you to set up your satellite dish.

Access the app, hit the camera icon, and point your phone to the sky. When the crosshairs and circle match up, you’ll know you have a clear view of your satellite. The app also has a built-in compass which will help you find proper satellite azimuth and can use augmented reality to show where the satellite is on camera view.

The satellite list is complete and includes all television satellites, so the app should work worldwide.

Just go to the Google Play Store and download this FREE app. Apple ITunes also has similar apps.

Submit your Teton Tillie Tip to Tom Wilby #1450 at [email protected]

The One Show at Myrtle Beach Alabama Theatre

F riday night’s TCI adventure began with a caravan to the Myrtle Beach Alabama Theatre to see a presentation of “The One Show.” The theatre and production have been voted the num-

ber one live entertainment production by Myrtle Beach visitors and locals. This new Myrtle Beach show combined extraordinary talent, great production numbers, computer-driven lighting/visual effects, and plenty of costume changes--an outstanding variety production.

Many of the Tetoners felt that the best part of the show was the comedian. He did a great job and really had the audience laughing as the set was changed and the cast prepared for the next song. The dance numbers were fast-paced, the comedy was side-splitting, and feet-stomping music had the whole audience wanting more.

2013 TCI Rally Highlights

Cross Stitching with Kay

B less her heart.....once again Kay Hooper #454 offered to teach a cross stitch class which she has been graciously doing at the international rallys for as long as I can remember. There were seven of us that attended the class and as always, Kay had such patience with

us all. I don’t think that any of us actually finished the Christmas decoration but we sure had a great time visiting and catching up on what’s been happening for the past year. Thanks Kay for a fun afternoon and I’ll be looking forward to it again when I see you in 2014.

The USS North Carolina Battleship

T he USS North Carolina Battleship is one of five ships named North Carolina. The first ship was Ship of the Line; it was in operation from 1821 to 1867.

The second one was the Confederate Ironclad; it was in operation from 1863 to 1864. The third one was the Armored Cruiser; it was in operation from 1908 to 1921. The USS North Carolina Battleship was the fourth one; it was in operation 1941 to 1947. This is the one we toured. It is 728ft 8 5/8 inches long.

They definitely used every inch. The sleeping bunks were stacked 5 high. The galley was huge, of course they were feeding about 2,300 crew members. They even had potato peeling machines. They could carry 120 days of food.

All the guns on the deck were really amazing. The smaller ones could shoot 6,000 feet. Not sure how far the big guns could shoot. The deck even carried two airplanes. Climbing the ladders for all nine levels was very interesting. No wonder the sailors were thin. The noise level on the ship must have been unreal. No wonder most of the guys are deaf now.

If you are ever in the area, you should try and visit it.

The fifth and last is an Attack Sub, started operation in 2008 and is still in operation.

A Trip to Brookgreen Gardens

T he trip to Brookgreen Gardens was wonderful. The weather was beautiful and we had a great time. First thing we noticed as we were on our way to the pontoon ride was a funny looking squirrel that none of us had ever seen before. It was fairly large, and had a long nose, white face, and black around its head and

eyes, along with rings around its tail. Since we didn’t know what kind of squirrel it was, our Rally Master Pete Greig #789 gave it the name of Black Masked Ringtail Squirrel. Well, we thought that was a pretty good name until Pete asked one of the workers in the garden what it was. Turns out it is a Southern Fox Squirrel. So, we all learned something!

We went to the dock for the pontoon ride up a tributary of the Waccamaw River. It went past the areas that were once acres and acres of rice plantations, worked by slave labor. It was fascinating to learn how the land was cleared, dikes and irrigation sys-tems laid, and the rice planted and cultivated. I was surprised to know it was such a huge cash crop as I had always believed that cotton was the big crop all over the South. Now that the land is no longer used for growing rice, it has become overgrown, proba-bly much as it was before it was first cleared. As we cruised along, we got to see a very large alligator lying in an open space in the grass. It must have been at least 12 feet long! The water

was covered with a water plant called a water hyacinth. It was pretty, but is an invasive species that is not native to South Carolina, having been brought in from South America. Like the kudzu from China right?

We enjoyed our day and we have en-joyed the rally here in Longs, SC.

Zumba Gold

B right and early at 10 AM, for some, several ladies would show up with their workout clothes and shoes to dance to the wild and crazy music of ZUMBA GOLD. Judy Godwin #835 led these ladies in the newest fad of dancing and exercise. There were at least 4-6 ladies at each class which lasted 30-45 minutes each. No

complaints of pulled muscles, strains, sprains were heard the following mornings. Judy was only able to hold three classes secondary to falling ill with a bad cold and sinus congestion. Her husband was heard saying that she may have to be "put down" and she was sorry she was unable to lead more classes.

Judy Godwin #835

PVC Clothesline

M y wife enjoys hanging clothes outside to dry, so I was sitting in my "man cave" (garage) and came up with this idea for her to hang clothes outside. Here is a list of the components and one may want to modify or change as needed. Also, some pictures to get an idea of how it works. One should be able to hang at least 20 shirts on this.

Materials:

10 foot x 3/4 inch schedule 40 PVC pipe 4- 90 degree 3/4 inch elbows 2- caps

Cut the PVC as following:

2- 4 foot sections 1- 13 1/2 inch piece USE HORIZONTALLY 1- 3 inch piece USE VERTICALLY 1- 3 1/2 inch piece USE VERTICALLY One four foot section will act as a vertical support on the end of the other 4 foot section. The horizontal 4 foot section should have holes drilled into it or notches so that hangers can be used. I did not cement all sections so that I can fold it up for storage. One cap is used on the 3 inch piece, the other cap on the base of the vertical support.

Assembly as follows:

3 inch piece with cap and 90 degree elbow. 13 1/2 inch piece into above elbow with another elbow on the other end. 3 1/2 inch piece into above elbow with another elbow on the other end. 48 inch piece with holes in it for hanging and elbow on end to accept the support. HISTORIAN WANTED

Editorial Philosophy

W e are a Family of Friends, dedicated to the promotion and enjoyment of our Teton RVs and the camaraderie of our members. Reflecting this, the newsletter is looking for positive and upbeat articles that we would be proud to share with anyone, including our children. There will be no profanity or “off-color” articles in the newsletter. Anything that needs to be said can be said in an

adult manner. We do not discriminate against any person, RV or truck.

While we encourage technical articles that point out problems and offer solutions, we will not print negative articles that directly attack TCI, its Members, or Teton Homes.

The newsletter accepts no advertising but will print notices of sale for a club member's Teton trailer and/or tow vehicle. Following TCI Board guidelines, sale notices will be brief, including member name and TCI number; vehicle/trailer make, model and age; a few descrip-tive words, and the member’s phone number and/or address.
