ABOUT A NIGHT FOR FAMILY EQUALITYWhile COVID-19 has brought much of the world to a halt, our fight for full lived and legal equality continues. And we think that’s a reason to celebrate!
A Night for Family Equality brings LGBTQ+ families and friends across the country a delightfully entertaining evening from the safety of their own home. Families can
walk our virtual red carpet in their finest formal wear, loudest Pride gear, or best matching pajama set,
sit back and watch celebrity guests, create their own fundraising teams to support our movement, and convene with other families across the country—all while showing what our families are all about: celebration, connection, and community, even in a crisis.
This virtual fundraising gala not only offers entertainment to families staying at home,
but also highlights the important work of Family Equality. From working to end
discrimination in the child welfare system to offering daily virtual
programming to support our families, Family Equality has led the nation in love and acceptance of LGBTQ+ families.
ABOUT FAMILY EQUALITYFounded in 1979, Family Equality’s mission is to ensure legal and lived equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, & queer families, and for those who wish to form them, through building community, changing hearts and minds, and driving policy change.
We believe every LGBTQ+ person should have the right and opportunity to form and sustain a loving family, regardless of who they are or where they live.
The estimated buying power of these gay and lesbian individuals in the US in 2017 is
almost $1 trillion.
OUR FAMILIES BY THE NUMBERS
63% of LGBTQ+ millennials (aged 18–35) are considering expanding their families, either becoming parents for the first time or having more children.
And, our study found that these numbers don’t vary with annual household income. Those making less than $25,000 a year are considering becoming parents at very similar rates to those making over $100,000.
This means nearly 4 million LGBTQ+ people are considering building families in the coming years.
