Prea Cuviosul Părintele Nostru Dimitrie cel

Nou (27 Octombrie)

În străvechea catedrală a Patriarhiei Române, în București, se

odihnesc moaștele Sf. Dimitrie cel Nou, tămăduitor și ocrotitor al

credincioșilor de multe veacuri. În 27 octombrie, străzile acestui

ilustru oraș medieval se umplu de parfumul discret al

”Dumitrițelor”, flori minunate numite din dragoste după Cuviosul

Sfânt. Mii și mii de Creștini își îndreaptă pașii sfios spre racla sa,

ca să-și afle tămăduire suferințelor și mângâiere sufletului.

Dragostea lor învinge frigul toamnei.

La praznic, racla de argint conținând Sfintele moaște, este

scoasă lângă biserică. Acolo, în norii de tămâie ce urcă fără

încetare la cer din cadelnițele diaconilor, într-o continuă

priveghere nocturnă, pioșii Creștini roagă pe Sfântul să

mijlocească pentru ei la Tronul Părintelui Ceresc. Încredințați că

sfinții sunt într-adevăr ”prieteni și casnici ai lui Dumnezeu”, care

vor ”judeca lumea”, ei cred de secole în puterea tămăduitoare a

acestui făcător de minuni. Sf. Dimitrie nu trebuie confundat cu Sf.

Dumitrie Izvorâtorul de Mir (26 Oct.). Acest sfânt, ale cărui

moaște au fost aduse la București în 1774, s-a născut în secolul

XIII, în satul Basarabi, în Bulgaria de azi, pe marginea râului

Lom. Atunci era vremea Imperiului Româno-Bulgar. Om simplu și

nevinovat, Dimitrie s-a retras ca sihastru într-o peșteră, care apoi i-

a devenit și mormânt. După veacuri, mormântul său a fost acoperit

de ape. De acolo el s-a arătat în vis unei fetițe bolnave, făgăduindu

-i vindecare dacă părinții ei îl vor scoate din apă. Călăuziți de o

lumină sfântă ce pâlpâia deasupra apei, ei au făcut aceasta și copila

s-a vindecat îndată. Văzând minunile sfântului, un domnitor

Român, a înălțat o biserică peste moaștele sale din Basarabi. În

1774, acestea au fost mutate la București, salvând orașul de ciumă

și oprind războiul Ruso-Turc.

Reîntors din pelerinajul la Sf. Dimitrie cel Nou, cred cu adevărat

că spiritul său este viu și că trupul său este cu adevărat izvor de

tămăduiri. Dumnezeul neamurilor ne-a dăruit un mare sfânt care

ne învață ”să nu purtăm grijă de trup, că este trecător, ci să luăm

aminte la suflet, lucrul cel nemuritor”. Astăzi, în inima mea, în loc

de gingașele ”Dumitrițe”, aduc Sfântului - prin care Domnul este

prea-mărit - o Crizantemă duhovnicească Americană, rugându-l să

poarte grija și nevoile credinciosului popor de pretutindenea.

Our Venerable Father Dimitrie ”the New”

(October 27)

In old Cathedral of the Romanian Patriarchate, in Bucharest, rest

the relics of St. Dimitrie the New, a healer and protector of the

faithful over many centuries. On October 27, the streets of the

ancient city are filled with the fragrance of a unique variety of

flowers, called ”Dumitrițe” or ”the flowers of St. Dimitrie”.

Thousands upon thousands of faithful stream the upward alley to the

relics of this venerable saint to find healing and consolation.

Encased in a beautiful silver reliquary, his fragrant body is being

placed outdoors every year. There, in the clouds of incense burned

unceasingly by the deacons, while the vigil takes place without

interruption through the night, pious Christians spend time in prayer,

asking the saint to intercede for them to the heavenly Throne.

Persuaded that the saints are ”the friends of God” who will actually

”judge the world!, they thrust for centuries now the power of his

prayer, which did so many healings. St. Dimitrie the New is not to

be confused with ”St. Demetrios” the Myrrh Gusher. The saint

whose relics were brought to Bucharest in 1774, was born in the

village of Basarabi, by the Lom River, in today’s Bulgaria in the

13th century, during the Romanian Bulgarian Empire. A simple and

faithful man, he withdrew into a cave which later became his tomb.

After centuries, his relics were flooded and revealed by miracle in a

dream to a very sick girl. After her parents pulled them from the wa-

ter, the little girl was healed by the saint, as he promised. Later, see-

ing the many miracles performed by the relics of this saintly man,

one of the Romanian kings built a church over his relics. Finally,

since 1774, they were brought to Bucharest, where the Saint saved

the city from cholera.

Returned from a pilgrimage to his relics, I now know that his spirit

is alive and his body is truly a fountain of healings. God, who is

worshipped and praised by all nations, offered us a great saint to

teach us “not to take care of the body, for it is passing away, but to

take care of the soul, for that is truly immortal.” Today, in my heart,

instead of the delicate “Dumitrițe”, for all our God loving people

everywhere, I bring an all American ”Mum” to our Venerable

Dimitrie the New, in whom God is truly made wondrous and works

miracles among his faithful people. Through the prayers of your

holy ones, O Lord, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and save us!

AROY SUNDAY

Our parish’s Romanian American Youth (AROY) met

last Sunday after church and took a guided tour of the

Romanian Ethnic Art Museum. The youth were

interested to learn about the beginnings of this museum

and their cultural heritage. Some parents and

grandparents joined us in our cultural escapade. The tour

and guidance were given by Father Grama. Having

learned a great deal about history and arts, the youth

decided to meet again and continue the dialogue.

Theodosius (Lazor), former

Archbishop of Washington ,

Metropolitan of All-America and

Canada, fell asleep in the Lord in

Canonsburg, PA after an extended

illness. He was the Primate of the

Orthodox Church in America from

1977 until his retirement in 2002.

Besides other service to be held in Conosburg, PA, the

Memory Eternal!

The Apostles teach us! How did you hear about God? Did your parents tell you stories from the Bible? Did your

godparent tell you something? Did you listen to our priest? Does

your church school class talk about God? Maybe you learned about

the Lord from all of these!

Saint Paul tells us today in the epistle how he learned about God.

He writes, “I would have you know that the gospel which was

preached by me is not man’s gospel. For I did not receive it from

man, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus

Christ.” Saint Paul learned about God because God showed

Himself to Him! Isn’t that special? He learned about God from God

Himself! That is what makes an apostle so special. Saint Paul

learned about Christ from Jesus Christ Himself! Apostles are

special to us, and this is one big reason why. You know, in our

Orthodox Church, we hold something called Apostolic Tradition.

That means we have teachings that were handed down to us from

the Apostles. The Apostles heard these teachings from Jesus, and

they handed down those same teachings to others, who handed it

down to others, and so on, all the way to us!

We hold this Apostolic Tradition like a treasure, because the

Apostles held Jesus’s words like a treasure too!

Celebrated on October 26

The 88th Contiguous Congress of the Romanian

Orthodox Episcopate of America

On Saturday, October 17, three delegates from our parish (George

Cantor, Cristian Spanu and Father Remus Grama) joined the 198

delegates from over 100 other parishes and monasteries in the

USA to participate for the first time in history in a Zoom annual

meeting. Another member of our church, Nick Avramaut, attended

on behalf of the U.S. Brotherhood. Our Archbishop Nathaniel and

Vicar-Bishop Andrei presided over the assembly. The moderation

was done by Father Ian Pac-Urar assisted by a talented team of

staff technicians.

In his report, Archbishop Nathaniel spoke about the Ordination of

our Vicar Bishop Andrei of Cleveland, who rallied 13 Bishops. He

also thanked His Grace and staff for their support in

administration: David Oancea (34 years of service); Mark

Chestnut (35 years). His Eminence mentioned the change of the

Solia format and introduced Mr. Florin Ristache, manager.

His Eminence thanked our clergy and wives, who are directly

exposed, for zeal and their service. He spoke about the adverse

impact of COVID on our parishes, elderly and youth. He

particularly urged us to talk with our youth and prevent them from

the use of drugs and depression. The Assembly of Bishops USA

declared 2021 the year of Youth. This invites all young people to

become active in their churches. His Eminence addressed the need

for clergy and asked parishes to support their Priests. He also

stressed the need for all of us to support the church in this time of

trial. He informed the delegates that the Episcopate was granted by

the Courts the right to the property of Ascension Monastery in

Clinton, Michigan. Another case with Saint Nicholas, Troy,

Michigan is still in Court. The Episcopate is not gaining anything

from these cases, but it has to struggle to enforce church order and

state laws. With regard to the case in Troy, the congress deplored

the interference of Romanian Hierarchs in our Episcopate and took

note of the efforts to inform other jurisdictions about what is going

on.

This year’s congress approved to empower the Episcopate Council

to sign a 30 years land lease contract with Solar Nextera Company.

George Cantor served in the Study Committee and participated in

the report. Among other decisions were: the approval of a series of

resolutions. One of them expressed gratitude to our Hierarchs and

Vatra Staff for their guidance during the COVID outbreak.

Another recommended that the name of the Episcopate be changed

to that of an Archdiocese. It was also approved to open a Line of

Credit for any unforeseeable situations. The Proposed Budget was

accepted as presented by the Episcopate Council. The Congress

saluted Archbishop Nathaniel for His 40 years of service as a

Bishop!

The Congress began at 11 AM and ended at 5:20 PM. We thank

God that even in the conditions imposed by the current pandemic

we were able to hold our meeting. Congratulations to the

organizers for a well-managed life-stream meeting that brought

together almost two hundred faithful from all over Canada and the

USA!

Un caz care necesită o atenție aparte este Schitul

Bunavestire (Annunciation), 10087 Rolling Meadows

Dr., Westville, IN 46391, unde viețuiește Maica

Theodora, iconograf cu mult har, care este în tratament

pentru Leucemie. Deși schitul nu este în protopopiatul

nostru, îndemn cu drag pe cei ce au compasiune să nu o

uite în rugăciuni pe Maica Theodora. Orice expresie de

sprijin este binevenit. “Fericiți cei milostivi că aceia se

vor milui”! “Cel ce seamănă cu dărnicie cu dărnicie va

și secera!”

Rugăciune pentru încetarea epidemiei

Doamne, Dumnezeul nostru, Cel ce ești bogat în milă și, cu

purtarea Ta de grijă cea înțeleaptă, ocârmuiești viața noastră,

ascultă rugăciunea noastră, primește pocăința noastră pentru

păcate, oprește noua boală molipsitoare (noua epidemie), precum

ai încetat pedepsirea poporului Tău în vremea regelui David. Cel

ce ești Doctorul sufletelor și al trupurilor noastre, dăruiește

însănătoșire celor cuprinși de boală, ridicându-i grabnic din patul

durerii, ca să Te slăvească pe Tine, Mântuitorul cel Milostiv, iar pe

cei sănătoși îi ocrotește de orice boală. Binecuvintează, întărește și

păzește, Doamne, cu harul Tău, pe toți cei care, cu iubire de

oameni și jertfelnicie, îi îngrijesc pe cei bolnavi la casele lor sau în

spitale. Îndepărtează toată boala și suferința din popor și ne învață

să prețuim viața și sănătatea ca daruri ale Tale. Dăruiește-ne,

Dumnezeule, pacea Ta și umple inimile noastre de credință

neclintită în ocrotirea Ta, de nădejde în ajutorul Tău și de dragoste

față de Tine și de aproapele. Că al Tău este a ne milui și a ne

mântui pe noi, Dumnezeul nostru, și Ție slavă înălțăm: Tatălui și

Fiului și Sfântului Duh, acum și pururea și în vecii vecilor. Amin!
