Fourth grader Amanda Skinner of the Jefferson School in Hawthorne was named the first place winner of the 19th Annual Passaic County
Clerk Poster Calendar Contest. Her depiction of the 77-foot high Great
Falls of Paterson washed in water colors captured the beauty of the
historic site and is featured on the cover.
Amanda is pictured here with Kristin M. Corrado, Passaic County
Clerk, and Deputy Clerk Walt Davidson. The 12 winning entries are
reproduced on the 2015 Calendar being distributed to schools,
government offices, libraries and other public places.
“Many of the schools included this contest as part of their fourth grade
curriculum,” said Corrado. “It is a wonderful way for children to learn
more about all that is special and unique about Passaic County.”

In celebration of Women’s HistoryMonth, the PCCHC presents Year
360, an exhibition of sculptures and
drawings by Barbara Wallace.
Known for her figurative works
and for her innovative use of
papier mâché, her work will be on
view in the PCCC Broadway
Gallery at Memorial Dr., Paterson,
from March 4 through April 17. A
reception, open to the public, is on
March 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. See

The next monthly Family WoodlandHike at the New Jersey State Botanical
Garden (NJBG) in Ringwood is on March 15 at 1 pm.
This easy, child-friendly hike in the Garden’s woodlands
introduces plants,
animals and geology
and will be tailored
to ‘fit’ the group.
There is also an End-
of-Winter Tree Walk
on March 21 at 10
am. Head landscape
designer Rich Flynn
leads this perennial
favorite, where
visitors learn the
differences between
tree species. Both
hikes are free. Meet
at the Carriage House
for these programs,
and wear sturdy, comfortable shoes; snow or rain cancels.
Tours of the ground floor of historic Skylands Manor are
March 1 from 11 am to 3 pm. Free for members, tickets
are buy one get one free for non-members. NJBG
volunteers explain the architecture and history of this
lovely Tudor-Revival estate home. Regular fees are: $7
adults; $5 seniors and students ages 13 to 18; $3 ages 6-
12; free under 6. Complimentary refreshments follow in
the Carriage House Visitor Center throughout the
afternoon. A snowstorm cancels. Regular Skylands Manor

Eileen Myles and Maureen Seaton will
read their poems on March 7 as part of
the Distinguished Poets Series at
PCCC, The reading is at 1 pm at the
historic Hamilton Club Building, 32
Church St., downtown Paterson.
The program is free; an open
reading follows. Poetry workshops,
conducted by Myles and Seaton are
10 am to noon at the same location.

In Celebration of Spring is a
program of live jazz and art at the
Clifton Arts Center on March 15.
Come hear musicians Mike
Luipersbeck, a retired police detective and accomplished
jazz drummer, piano prodigy Peter Greco and bassist Ron
Naspo at 2:30 pm. Their performance of selections from
the Great American Songbook, jazz, and Broadway,
begins at 3 pm. Tickets are $10 and include light
refreshments. Located at 900 Clifton Ave., on the campus
of the municipal complex, patrons can also view a display
of original works by members of the Clifton Association

Gary Kirkpatrick performs in the Piano Concert Seriesat the Ringwood Public Library on March 29 at 2 pm.
Kirkpatrick, a professor of music at
William Paterson University, will
be accompanied by Joel Lipton on
viola. Their program will consist
of works by Schubert and Brahms.
Kirkpatrick is recognized as one of
America’s foremost soloists,
chamber musicians and teachers.
He has explored new horizons in
compositions created for him
during his tenure as pianist with the renowned Verdehr

Saturday Labor Art Classes for third to fifth grade
students are offered at the American Labor Museum/Botto
House National Landmark. Funded by the Puffin
Foundation and the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey,
the free classes run March 7 to May 2. Students will learn
of the history and contemporary issues of working people
and immigrants through the visual and performing arts.
Students participate in hands-on activities to develop their
understanding of an immigrant worker’s home, lifestyle and
workplace as a means of comparison to those issues today.

The Bob Wylde Jazz Trio performs at the March 11
Wayne Public Library Lunchbox Learning program. The
trio features Bob Wylde on guitar, Thomson Kneeland on
bass and Alvester Garnett on drums. On March 25, author
John E. O’Rourke will discuss his book The Jersey ShoreThrill Killer: Richard Biegenwald. O’Rourke, a retired
NJ State Trooper, will explain the disapperance of young
women along the Jersey shore from 1974 to 1983, and the
investigation and capture of this felon. Free, open to the
public, doors open at noon and patrons may bring a lunch;
refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Wayne

New Legacy Concerts at the Ringwood Public Library
present Mary Fahl on March 1 at 2 pm. The singer and
songwriter first achieved fame as lead singer of the
chamber-pop group, October Project. Tickets for all New
Legacy concerts are available during regular hours at the
Ringwood Public Library, 30 Cannici Dr., Ringwood,

Seventy entries will be screened at the 2015 PassaicCounty Film Festival on April 25. Now in its 11th year,
this juried exhibition of independent filmmakers’ work
showcases projects created by those who live, attend
school, or work in Passaic County. Entries are 10 minutes
or less. The festival’s goal is to support filmmakers by
providing a public forum to showcase their work and
provide an opportunity to interact with members of the
television and filmmaking community. There is free
admission to the festival and screenings, which will take
place at the Fabian 8 Theater in historic downtown
Paterson. While most films are appropriate for a general
audience, some material may be inappropriate for children

A new choral group—a musical
collaboration between the Sequoia
Senior Center, a program of the
Jewish Family Service of
Passaic/Clifton, and the Garden
State Opera—will make its debut at
a Purim party on March 3 at 11 am.
Held at 565 Broadway, Passaic, the
party is open to the public and
admission includes the performance
and a luncheon. Members pay $10,
non-members $15. Over the winter
months, seniors participated in
training three times a week by
Garden State Opera singers, under
the direction of Maestro Francesco

The Harmony Singers of Wayne,a professionally directed, mixed-
voice, multi-generational
community chorus, is now in its
50th season. Rehearsals have
begun for a Golden Anniversary
Concert to be presented in May. The
group meets from 7:30 to 9:30 pm
on Tuesday evenings at the Wayne
Civic Center on Hamburg Turnpike.
Soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices
are invited to attend a few rehearsals
without obligation to see if voice,

Dreams & Nightmares is theconcept behind ATC Studios’ 2015
Young Playwrights Project. The
competition is open to middle and
high school students who submit
one-act scripts (10 minutes or under)
that reflect the concept. Scripts,
written for one to 10 actors, with
technical requirements, can be
submitted to ATC by emailing to
[email protected] (as a .doc
or .docx) before March 15. Six to
12 submissions will be selected
for public performance, and cast
and produced through ATC.
