Before you come to Moreton Hall, you will need to check ifyou require a visa to study in the UK. We can help you with thisor you can look at the UKVI website for visa guidance(www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration).

If you are studying in the UK for 6 months or less, you can apply for ashort term study visa. If you are studying for more than 30 days youmust apply for a Tier 4 Child Student visa.

Moreton Hall must process all visa applications but will pay for this service. Students are liable for the Government fees (Health surcharge and visa fee).

Moreton Hall will support you throughout the visa process to ensure that it is granted as quickly and easily as possible.

Once the visa has been granted, you will be notified that the BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) card will be sent to school, where it will be kept safely for you.

You and your child/children, as visa holders, are obligedto notify the school, as the sponsor, of all your travelarrangements and destinations. You are also obligedto comply with our guardianship policy and mustprovide us with the full name, address and contactdetails of your guardian before you join the school.

8 Guardian InformationMoreton Hall welcomes students from all over the world and our internationalstudents are part of a diverse community of people who care for each otherand grow as individuals, celebrating diversity and forging strong friendships.

All visa holding international students are required to have a Guardian whilststudying at Moreton Hall.

Where international students need to apply for a student visa in order to study in the UK, the required CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance to Study) number will not be issued until the School is satisfied that appropriate Guardian arrangements are in place.

Health CentrePrior to arrival it is essential that you fill in the medical form and that we receive it.It is vital that all your medical information is declared and correct at the time offilling it out, so that we can provide the best level of medical care possible, ifrequired, for your physical, psychological and social wellbeing. Please be assuredthat we hold all health information securely in the Health Centre, maintaining confidentiality.

Upon arrival, you will visit the nurse at the school Health Centre for a health assessment. The Health Centre will then register you with a doctor, depending on your length of stay. Onceregistered with the doctor, you will be issued with an NHS number. All medication from your home country must be given to your Housemistress immediately upon arrival.

The Health Centre is staffed by three fully qualified nurses and they are supportedby three local female General Practitioner (GP) doctors. All boarders are registered with the school doctors, based at Chirk Surgery. Health Centre staff are always available to pupils, should they require medical treatment, guidance or advice.

Four days a week, either Dr Thompson or Dr Roberts hold a surgery in the Health Centre for boarding pupils. They are attached to the local Medical Centre in Chirk.

9Travel PermissionPlease note it is important that you do not leave school before the end ofthe term so that you get the full benefit of your experience and studies at Moreton Hall,and to comply with Tier 4 Visa policy. All start and end term dates are on the school calendaron page 26.

If you do need to travel, for some reason, outside of the school calendar dates, you must get permission from your Housemistress before making any bookings.

Please ensure you inform your child’s Housemistress of guardian details if they arrive earlier than the start of term.

We understand that your child coming to study in another country is a big thing for families. Our students' wellbeing is very important to us so in order for them to integrate with other students as best as posible, we would politely ask that when you drop your child off at school, please could we ask that, after you have setttled your child in, you depart before supper. You are very welcome to come back and visit your child outside of lessons on subsequent days but please could we ask that this is done by priorappointment with the Housemistress.

The Extra-Curricular programme at Moreton Hall is designed to complement the academic curriculum as well as providing opportunities for pupils to develop new skills and talents.

A vast range of activities is offered and is reviewed eachterm by the Activities Co-ordinator and Head of Senior School thus ensuring a vibrant, balanced and organic range of activities that reflect pupil interests and truly enrich beyond the classroom. The Activity programme is made up of six segments: Linguistic, STEM, Physical, Aesthetic & Creative, Expressive Arts and Human & Social.

Extra-Curricular

Extra-curricular activities range from The Debating Society, Model United Nations, Charities, Journalism, Sailing, Show Choir, Drama, Yoga, Pilates and so on.

Chargeable activities would be Horse Riding, Ballet, Spoken English etc. Forms are sent out beforethe start of each term and should be returned to your Housemistress at thestart of the term; terms and conditions apply.

This information and relevant forms will be given to you by your child’s Housemistress upon arrival at school.

10 Music Making Tuition Tuition can be arranged in all orchestral instruments as wellas percussion, piano, guitar, harp and singing. We also offerindividual or group Music Theory lessons and aural lessons.

All new pupils have the chance to have a free triallesson, on the instrument of their choice.

Music examinations are encouraged, but are certainlynot compulsory. All examination syllabuses and boardsare explored by pupils (e.g. ABRSM, Trinity and LondonCollege). It is worth noting that successful Grade 6, 7and 8 pupils gain valuable UCAS (University & CollegeAdmission Service) points that will support theirapplication to further education.

Moreton offers a varied and balanced curriculum which allows pupils to achieve their potential in a stimulating and supportive atmosphere. Careful attention is paid to the needs of theindividual pupil and wherever possible, a tailored programme will be created to stretch the most able or support the least confident.

Students entering into Lower 5 and Lower 6 must inform the school of theirsubject choices before arrival.

GCSEsYou will be studying Mathematics, English Language, English Literature andthe three Sciences. The Science examinations you take will be in all three Sciencesubjects and will be worth two or three GCSEs depending on your preference andability. This gives you 5 or 6 GCSEs (depending on the science option).

Under the new, more demanding GCSEs we recommend that the typical numberof GCSEs taken is 8, with some students taking greater or fewer than this dependingon what is right for them.

A LevelsYou should decide what is the most likely combination of subjects you will bestudying in the Lower Sixth.

If you are taking GCSEs and are worried about results, you can make adjustmentswhen you see your grades.

Most students will take 3 A-level subjects. If you are unsure as to yourfinal choice please indicate your preferred three with an additionalsubject for now.

You will be sent the options available once an offer has beenmade by the school.

Divisions

Every pupil in the school is placed into one of fourdivisions; this enables each person to participateand win points in inter-divisional competitions.

The Divisions are called Calvert, Vincent, Nortonand Roberts. Each is named after an influentialmember of Moreton Hall’s history.

The Captain and Vice Captains of each Divisionare prefects, who have been selected from thosein positions of responsibility.

At the end of the year theDivision with the most points

will win the Divisional Trophy.

Below are some of the routes covered by our transport team for daystudents, however, these are not prescriptive. Drama at Moreton offers an array of opportunities forstudents to gain more insight into the theatrical world andthe way in which it operates. Drama is not only a compulsory part of the curriculum up to Year 9, but also a very popularsubject at GCSE and A Level.

Enrichment is central to the Moreton Hallway of life. House Regulations

The internet and other related information technologiesare powerful and rapidly developing tools, opening upnew educational opportunities for everyone.

The Internet Acceptable Use Policy sets out the current policy on each aspect of the use oftechnology in school at present, but reserves the right to change it immediately as any new issue is identified. In essence, it serves to warn of the many potential risks and mistakes that young people can make and how to avoid them through knowledge of safe, sensible and responsible use of the internet.

Moreton Enterprises Moreton Enterprises is a unique business venture which wasestablished at the school 30 years ago. It has been pushingboundaries since the pioneering days of resurrecting and managingthe booking office at Gobowen Train Station, to become the successfulretail establishment that we see today.

Our Enterprise Centre houses five retail outlets (Boost, Rymans,Essentials, Tuck and Revive) selling a range of stationery, everydaytoiletry products, essential sports products such as mouth guards, gifts, smoothies and occasional sweet treats.

We operate a ‘fee bill’ payment system whereby a maximum spendinglimit of £60 per term (equating to approximately £5 per week) isautomatically set. If you wish to amend this limit then please contactthe School Bursary Office, using the following email address - [email protected]

Upon arrival at school, your child will be issued with a ‘Student ID card’. Purchases can only be made by an individual with the production of their personal ID card. If the card is misplaced, there will be a £5 replacementfee applied to the school bill.

At any point during the term students and parents can request a‘statement’ of their Moreton Enterprise account.

There is still the option to pay for goods by cash, if preferred.

The Moreton Hall Foundation - created in2006 - looks at all areas of school life to identify projects which will enhance the Moretonexperience for all pupils. Big or small, theprojects range from large capital projects to those covering smaller educational needs.

Recent capital developments that theFoundation has funded include the Centenary Science Centre and the Sports Pavilion. Another major focus of the Moreton Foundation is to provide much needed bursaries to talented and exceptional pupils who in turn contribute to Moreton life.

The main focus of the Foundation presentlyis the development of the newly built Holroyd Community Theatre at Moreton which providesprovide Moreton students with direct access to professional drama and theatre performances.

In keeping with the school’s strong business focus, Moreton Hall’s annual Business Lunch is a prestigious event that goes from strength to strength. A staplein Shropshire’s business community calendar, the Business Lunch is attended by hundreds of local,regional and national business men and women.

Parents’ meetings are held throughout the year. Parents and guardiansare invited to meet their children’s teachers to discuss their progress.Parents are, of course, always welcome to come to school at other timesif they are unable to attend the Parents’ meeting. Parents’ Meetings

All parents and guardians have access to the school Parent Portal. The portal gives you access to your child’s school reports, assessments, lesson timetables and GCSE and A Level examination results. All reports (sent termly) and half term assessments(sent half termly) can be accessed through the ParentPortal. Parents wishing to receive hard copies of boththe half term and end of term reports should [email protected].

All electrical equipment in the house must be PAT tested.This means that everything electrical that has a plug must be checked.

This includes: ● Chargers (phones, toothbrushes and laptops) ● Hair dryers ● Lamps ● Fairy lights ● Adaptors

Your Housemistress will ask you to put everything in a bag with your name on out on the chosen day. Any items that are not tested will not be able to be used until the next PAT testing session.

✘If your device fails:This means that you are not able to use it in school because it is a fire risk. The item will be returned to you when you return home at the end of term. If it is an item you really need we can help you purchase a safe one. Please ask if you need help.

As Moreton is still a relatively small school, there is a family atmosphere and outstanding pastoral support. The pupils are in a happy, busy, nurturing environment with their friends and with caring adults 24 hours a day.

Pupil Complaints Procedures If a pupil believes that sanctions have been imposed unfairly or if they have anyother cause for complaint, then they should seek advice from an adult in schoolwhom they think can help them. They may, however, seek the advice from anadult who is independent of the school - posters are displayed on housenotice boards with the relevant contact numbers for external support.

School Prefects are appointed by the Principal at the end of the Lower 6 year. Prefects have a range of responsibilities and are ambassadors for the school. The Head Girls and deputies are selected from the Prefect body.

All Upper 6 students will have an opportunity to take on a role of responsibility in the their final year.

Many girls in the Senior School choose to study Spoken Englishas an optional extra, taught in small groups of 3 – 4.

School TimetablesThe School Day The school day varies depending on the year group and the subjects a student studies. By Sixth Form, students take much more responsibility for managing their own time.

Wednesday afternoon is dedicated tosport for the whole school, includingthe Sixth Form. The Uniform aims to be smart, comfortable and practicalwhilst providing the students with a sense of identity.Sixth Formers have a dress code but no set uniform. It isexpected that all students take pride in their appearanceand adhere to the uniform/dress code.

All uniforms can be purchased upon arrival apart fromschool shoes which must be purchased before arrival atschool as well as sports shoes and suitable footwear. Belongings should be labelled clearly. International StudyCentre students are expected to wear smartwhite shirts and a black skirt / trousers.

Every pupil has a Tutor who oversees their academicand pastoral progress. Tutees meet with their Tutor ona Tuesday and Thursday at 8.20am; they also have aone-to-one tutorial during the week. The Tutor worksclosely with the Housemistress and is also anotherpoint of contact for parents.Tutorials

Weekend LeavesPupils must give their Housemistress due notificationof their leave requests as specified in each house.

Shopping leaves, from Lower V upwards are at the discretion of the Housemistress and pupils must travel in groups. Written permission from parents/guardians is required for any leave involving travel on public transport alone, after dark, or an overnight stay, shopping trips with friends etc.

‘A’ and ‘B’ Weekends You will see reference made to ‘A’ and ‘B’Weekends throughout the School Calendar, Weekend Activities Booklet and also on thetimetable. This relates to the school timetableand the lessons to attend on that particularweekend.

Target Weekends Weekend activities form an important part of lifeat Moreton Hall. We feel that the use of weekends for enrichment and extended curricular activitieswill add to the education of all the pupils .

Whilst we do not wish to lose our flexibility,we do feel that to get the best out of Moretonit is essential for pupils to join in as manyweekend activities as possible.

Weekend Activities

Target weekends arehighlighted in red in boththe term calendar andalso the weekend activityprogramme. Both are publishedtermly. These are weekendswhen girls are expected to remainin school and attend the activities on offer.

Non target weekends . The activities areless demanding and girls may opt to taketime away from school to be with theirfamilies after lessons end on Saturday andafter they have fulfilled any schoolcommitments they may have.

Life Skills: an essential part of the all roundeducation at Moreton Hall. Sixth Form studentshave a formal programme of seminars, discussiongroups and lectures introducing and teaching presentations,public speaking and discussion whilst exploring topical issues.

Sport for all: Our sporting philosophy is to provide sport for eachand every student from aspiring elite athletes to overall enjoyment forphysical and mental wellbeing.

The Arts also form a major part of the daily livesof pupils at Moreton, enhancing Wellbeing:
