Overall Hiring Trends

The Naukri JobSpeak Index for February 2020 at 2,414, remained �at in hiring as compared to February 2019 at 2,415.According to the JobSpeak report, the flat trend was primarily led by a decline in growth rates across sectors such as Insurance, Hotel/Restaurants/ Airlines/Travel, Auto/Auto Ancillary and Recruitment/Employment. Despite a flat trend in hiring activity, crucial industries like Accounting/Taxation/ Finance, Education/Teaching/Training, BPO/ITES, and IT-Software continued to observe a growth of 14%, 12%, 9%, and 5% respectively.

The job market in Hyderabad picked up on hiring by 5% whereas other cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Pune declined over the past year. Hiring activity for entry-level jobs (0-3 years) saw a positive growth while mid-level executives, senior and leadership roles saw a decline in February’20 versus last year.

Commenting on the report, Pawan Goyal, Chief Business Officer, Naukri.com said,

“The economic slowdown in a few sectors has impacted the overall hiring activity. However, the recruitment growth in sectors like Accounting/Finance, BPO/ITES, IT-Software and Education/Teaching which employ a large pool of jobseekers in the country remains buoyant which is a positive sign.”

• Demand for professionals from the Accounting & Finance industry grew by 14%.

• Major industries that observed an increase in hiring during February were Education/Teaching(12%), BPO/ITES (9%), Medical/Healthcare/Hospital (9%), BFSI (6%) and IT-Software (5%)

• The hiring in industries like Insurance (-23%), Hotels & Hospitality (-18%), Auto (-16%) and Recruitment/Employment (-15%) witnessed a dip in February’ 20 versus last year at the same time.

Functional Area Analysis: • Recruitment activities for professionals in Pharma/Biotech/Healthcare domain witnessed an encouraging growth of 13%.

• Functional roles in Accounts/Finance/Tax/CS/Audit (12%), ITES/BPO/KPO (9%), Sales/ Business Development (4%) and IT-Hardware (3%) also witnessed a growth in hiring.

Distribution of Jobs across Roles

City Wise Analysis

Recruitment across cities was negative during the month of February’20 except Hyderabad witnessing an increase of 5% YoY. Some of the hiring trends observed across key cities are as follows -

• Hyderabad: Hiring in Hyderabad increased by 5%. BPO (45%), BFSI (27%) and FMCG (21%) lead the way in industry hirings. BPO/ITES and Pharma roles witnessed an increase of 34% and 28% respectively. Hiring for entry-level executives (0-3 years) and mid-level executives (4-7 years) also grew by 14% each. Mid-management (12%) and senior-level executive (2%) saw a growth in hiring. However, leadership roles (+16 yrs) saw a dip of 15%

• Pune: The city saw a marginal dip of 2% in recruitment activity. IT-Software (26%) and BPO (22%) lead the way in industry hirings. IT-Hardware, Hotels and Pharma roles recorded growth rates of 37%, 32% and 27% respectively. Amongst experience bands, Pune witnessed growth in entry-level executive and mid-management roles by 15% each. Greater than 13 years experience bands saw a negative hiring growth.

• Delhi/NCR: Hiring activity in the capital city witnessed a negative growth of 6%. Hotel & Pharma industry saw a dip in hiring activity by 27% and 22% respectively. However, industries that witnessed an uptick in hiring were IT-Hard ware (62%) & Accounting (22%). Demand for IT-Hardware job roles grew by 31%. Recruitment activities across all band levels saw a negative growth.

Experience Wise Analysis

• Demand for entry-level job seekers with experience of 0-3 years grew by 5%.

• Hiring for mid-level executives with an experience of 4-7 years grew marginally by 1%. • Mid- management roles with 8-12 years of experience saw a dip of 6%.

• Hiring for senior management roles with 13-16 years of experience and leadership roles with experience of 16+ years saw a dip 14% & 13% respectively.

Over 76,000 clients use Naukri.com, ensuring that the data is highly reliable. The report however does not cover gig employment, hyperlocal hiring or campus placement.
