Opening in the Dom Church
Hartelijk dank!

About one thousand visitors experienced a day full of lectures, debates, workshops, fi lms and culture, with over sixty speakers of international renown. The joint effort of all involved speakers, visitors, volunteers, funds and partners has made this day a great success.
The purpose of this booklet is to give you an impression of the day of the conference. As a reminder, but hopefully also as an encouragement to further broaden and deepen your engagement with human rights advancement. Happy reading!

If you want to talk about human rights and you’re not ready to talk about power, you are not going to be trusted. Because it has to do with power. It has to do with the words that you are using and words are power. Terminology. Who is setting the words that we are using? How are we talking about this? Why this word, why not that word? This is power. Knowledge is power.Tariq Ramadan, Professor in Islamic Studies, Oxford University

The idea of rights has been extended so vastly, that one has to ponder whether it’s still functional. Animals have rights, ecosystems have rights, even robots will be considered to have rights within a short time. Henk Oosterling, Associate Professor in Philosophy, Erasmus University Rotterdam
