A Study Mission to Germany 3-7 December 2012

In order to understand the updated technologies and manufacturing practices from German manufacturers, TÜV Rheinland Training & Consulting Division (India) has organized a study mission to Cologne, Germany from 3 to 7 December 2012

This is the 5th international level programme in this series organized by TUV Rheinland (India). Earlier similar study missions have been organized in October 2011 (Japan), June 2011 (China), November 2012 (Cologne, Germany) and 16-20 July 2012 (Berlin, Germany). This program was designed to provide an opportunity for senior level management and young entrepreneurs from Indian manufacturing industry to understand and share the manufacturing process through shopfloor visits (at most innovative companies in the world like Bayer AG, Sona BLW, FEV GmbH, Alfred Schutte, Beko Technologies, HAZET-WERK, Wiesmann GmbH

and Heinrich George GmbH), seminar, interactive sessions, visit to university ie. Ruhr Universitat Boachum etc. The 13 member study mission comprised leading industrialists and senior technical experts from 9 companies ie Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Brakes India Ltd, Chanderpur Works Pvt Ltd, G K Technosynergies, JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd, Jenesis Technologies, Parikh Energy systems Pvt Ltd, Shree Ganesh Fats Pvt Ltd, and Veeyes Alloys Pvt Ltd) DAY 1 (3 December 2012) : The program started with a welcome session on 2 December 2012 at TUV Rheinland ,Cologne Mr Carlo Humberg, Global Business Field manager-Professional training, TUV Rheinland addressed the participants followed by a technical session by Mr Holger Huetz on ‘ Homologation’ and session held on ‘aviations/ airports’ by Mr Martin Sperber of TUV Rheinalnd

Mr Matthias Senft and Ms Patrizia Eggemann have briefed the activities related to Training and Consulting services of TUV Rheinland.

Post lunch, delegation made a visit to BAYER AG to understand the technologies of process industry. Dr Frithjof Hannig of BAYER AG has made a session on the business process of BAYER AG and talked about the topic ‘ innovation and technology’. Bayer is a global enterprise with core competencies in the fields of health care, agriculture and high-tech materials. As an inventor company, it sets trends are focused in research-intensive areas. Bayer’s products and services are designed to benefit people and improve the quality of life. At the same time, the Group aims to create value through innovation, growth and high earning power

DAY2 (4 December 2012): Delegates have visited Sona BLW Präzisionsschmiede (Manufacturer of precision forged, high-strength components). SONA BLW Präzisionsschmiede with its wide range of forging processes and process combinations, has technologies which provide customers with components that are fully-finished and ready-for-assembly. Their focus is basically on high precision components utilizing a combination of hot and cold forging processes. Mr. Thomas Heiber and Mr S Goyal have made presentations on their manufacturing process followed by plant visits.

After the session at Sona BLW, delegates travelled to Aachen to visit FEV GmbH. FEV GmbH is one of the leading international companies for research and development services in terms of drive units and accompanying testing technology. Officials of FEV made a presentation on ‘“Turning Innovative Ideas into Reality in Automotive and Powertrain“ followed by a visit to their testing facility.

FEV has an advanced development and test center in Aachen and Alsdorf. Additionally to their engineering centers in Europe and Asia, the FEV GmbH is represented in more than 23 countries

DAY 3 (5 December 2012): Delegates have attended a technical session at Alfred Schütte Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH on manufacturing problem solving techniques with the help of live case studies followed by a guided shopfloor visits by Mr. Peter Schmidt to understand their production technologies and also to learn best shopfloor practices. Alfred H. Schütte, domiciled in Cologne, is a leading, globally operating manufacturer of machine tools. The company builds multi-spindle automatics and 5-axis CNC grinding machines and is represented on several continents by subsidiaries

Same day, delegates had an interactive session with Mr. Koslowski, Managing Director of Beko Technologies . Beko Techlogies develops, manufactures and sells components and systems worldwide for an optimised compressed air quality. Enterprises from all industrial sectors belong to the international clientele of Beko Technologies.

DAY4 (6 December 2012): A factory visit to the production area of Hazet - WERK - Hermann Zerver GmbH & Co. KG was very much impressive and informative on DAY4 which is located at Remschied, Germany. The company HAZET was established in 1868 by Hermann Zerver and is in family possession for five generations already.. Core competences of HAZET are tool trolleys and workshop equipment, hand and specialty tools, torque wrenches and pneumatic tools.

HAZET has been awarded as one of the most innovative medium-sized companies in Germany in 2011 and 2012. Mr. Andreas Kämper and Mr. Sebastian Koch have made presentations on ‘innovation and technological approach of Hazet - WERK - Hermann Zerver GmbH & Co’

Same day, Indian delegates have visited Wiesmann GmbH. Wiesmann is the leading manufacturer of puristic sports cars. The name is well established in the luxury market. Until today more than 1,500 handcrafteded cars left the Wiesmann factory. The company currently utilizes dealership bases in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Mr Tobias Fischedick has briefed the manufacturing process and other technological updates to TUV Rheinalnd delegates

DAY 5 (7 December 2012): A shopfloor visit made to Heinrich Georg GmbH, Maschinenfabrik to understand the production technologies. Heinrich Georg GmbH is manufacturing company founded as a visionary one-man business in 1948, GEORG today is successful family-owned company and a global player within the production of transformers, machine tools and finishing lines. Mr. Thomas Weber, Head of the Department Customer Relations / HBV Marketing & Contracts - Corporate Services of Heinrich Georg GmbH has organized a session on ‘Quality Management at GEORG’ also organized a guided factory visits .

It was really a learning experience during the interactive meeting with Prof. Dr.-Ing. P. Tenberge at Ruhr Universität Bochum. Teaching and research are inextricably linked in Ruhr University. The department of Mechanical Engineering covers the whole range of modern mechanical engineering and constantly amends and updates its teaching and research programs in line with recent developments.

. The overall feedback from the participants is encouraging. The study mission provided an opportunity to obtain first-hand exposure to various innovative and successful Quality techniques implemented in Germany and also provided an opportunity to learn good manufacturing practices and updated technologies.
