The Funkaholics, also known as Funk Club, poses with a cake for James Brown’s eighty-first birthday, to honor his achievements and contributions to American culture. Students cut into an ice cream cake with a portrait of the 'Godfather of Soul' on it, while also sampling the unique musical style of the 'hardest working man in showbiz.' As a part of the theme, the song played before morning announcements was "I Feel Good."

Funk Club meets every Friday in Room 208. The club adviser is Dr. Patrick Bernardo.

Club Highlight: Funk Club National French Exam

Four Ridgewood students, Sara Golnabi, Victoria Murano,

Akash Chaurasia, and Olivia Facini ranked among the top

ten in the nation in their respective levels on the 2014

Grand Concours National French Test sponsored by the

American Association of the Teachers of French.

The students received medals from the AATF. All students

A Window Into Ridgewood High School Memorial Day Remembered at RHS

All this week Ridgewood High School took time out of its busy

morning schedule to honor and remember those who fought and

died in the service of America’s freedom. Led by social studies

teacher, John Domville, students read the names of Ridgewood

residents that made the ultimate sacrifice on foreign shores.

Each day was dedicated to highlighting not only a different war

but a different point in history.

The Village of Ridgewood has sent it sons to war just as any oth-

er town in the country, and it is important to hear the names of

those who did not come back. It also helped to serve as a re-

minder to the students the reality of their sacrifice. Those recited

names walked the same halls as the students today. They were

teenagers, and sometimes we can forget that.

Memorial day is a day meant to honor all our soldiers, but it is

also a time to remember our past and be thankful for those who

gave so much so we could live in peace and freedom.

Students in Greggory Kott’s chemistry class work

with chemicals during a lab period.

Students in Mark Syvret’s anatomy and physiology

class dissect a cat to learn more about the inner

workings of mammals.

Members of the various Ridgewood choral groups provide music for the

final day of tribute to America’s fallen soldiers as the names of Ridge-

wood residents who died in Vietnam are read over the loud speaker dur-

ing morning announcements.

Sergeant Chuck from the Ridgewood police, and an

RHS alumnus, demonstrates a sobriety test on a

student in Dr. Karen Walters’ class.
