TRAINING, COLLEGES, AND UNIVERSITIESThe Dallas–Fort Worth region offers a variety of public and private educational opportunities with robust programming in life sciences, engineering, and the arts. The University of North Texas at Denton, the University of Texas at Dallas, and the University of Texas at Arlington are among Texas’ seven “emerging research” universities. These schools are expanding program capabilities and funding in an effort to become world-class, “tier one” research institutions. UT Southwestern Medical Center is among the nation’s top in biology and biochemistry research, boasting countless clinical breakthroughs and innovations.

This successful state grant program offers businesses, consortia of businesses, or trade unions an opportunity to identify a training need and then partner with a public community or technical college to fill its specific needs. Businesses work with college partners to submit proposals, develop curricula and conduct training. The Skills Development Fund pays for the training, the college administers the grant, and businesses create new jobs and improve the skills of their current workers.

The institutions on the list, which include MIT, Stanford, Harvard, and Yale, are identified as the most productive research institutions in the nation.
