EC2 provides multiple physical sites, distinct power grids, and distinct bandwidth transits onto multiple Tier 1 backbones to eliminate single points of failure. Leveraging EC2 gives DF Splash the advantage of reacting to failures of any serving elements by simply starting additional virtual servers as needed. Using DF Splash’s proprietary streaming transport, streams can easily survive the harshest Internet conditions including severe packet loss, high latencies, and high hop counts, all without degrading the end user’s video viewing experience. Each DF Splash streaming session uses multiple, concurrent data streams to serve each clip for viewing without appreciable increases in bandwidth. Thus the reliability of any single streaming server does not affect the end-user experience. Should one or even a few of the servers fail or become unusable, the overall video stream is unaffected and end users get a flawless video experience. An N-tier, dynamic serving infrastructure: the loss of our edge caching servers at lower tiers simply results in data streams being served from higher tiers within the infrastructure. Scalability With Amazon’s EC2 network, serving capacity can be vastly increased using our automated deployment system, even up to many orders of magnitude growth in demand, within minutes. Future plans calls for employing a combination of cloud computing vendors and Digital Fountain- built serving farms to ensure continued delivery of our streams. N-tier serving infrastructure scales horizontally and vertically to accommodate growth in the content catalog and concurrent streaming volume. Multiple, concurrent data streams from multiple locations serve each clip for viewing to easily allow for geographic dispersion of requests to balance or shift resource utilization (bandwidth, storage, etc.) as needed. Our proprietary protocol reliably delivers high quality streams using fewer, centralized server farms without need for a massive, sprawling edge infrastructure. Content Management The DF Splash content management system (CMS) is designed to manage and publish all your high quality

content. Recognizing every customer’s needs are different, DF Splash CMS supports a flexible content

workflow. The CMS provides both a user-friendly web interface and an open web services-driven API for

custom integration with your own CMS system. At each stage of the workflow you can be notified of its

Content Preparation

DF Splash places no creative restrictions on your content. Simply transfer your high quality source material

to our service. Our content encoding team is available to advise you on the ideal settings to maximize the

Content Encoding

Once we’ve received your content our state-of-the-art standards-compliant H.264 encoding system will

encode it for optimal playback. Select the different bit rates you want to support or let us handle that for

you. We also have a scalable encoding farm to keep up with the heaviest demand.

Want to encode it yourself? No problem. Our system will accept any content that follows our simple

encoding guidelines or use our encoding kit.

Content Ingestion

Once you’re satisfied with the encoding, the CMS will ingest the content into our delivery network and
