Welcome to our seventh Annual Abhainn Rí Festival of Participation and Inclusion. We pool together the creative, social and civic resources of the town to make this special festival happen. This year is very significant in Ireland’s history and a number of events in festival are part of the larger Kilkenny County Council’s 1916 Commemoration Programme. As many of you may be aware of Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford have come together as the Three Sisters region in a bid to win the European Union’s prestigious European Capital of Culture for 2020. Our festival will be an good opportunity to highlight Callan’s exciting cultural life. We hope you enjoy participating in our diverse programme of events across architecture, music, ecology, theatre, visual arts, sport, , spoken word, heritage, religion, food and craft.

With 10 categories to be won this year, the Callan Dog show has something for every pooch, come see who will be crowned top dog in 2016.

We proudly announce our 2nd Annual Duck Race: hundreds of plastic numbered ducks will dive into ‘Abhainn Ri’ river for a dash to fame and fortune.

Callan United’s annual Soccer and Sounds Festival Day, with local music and soccer talent in the wide open spaces of the Fairgreen. Plenty of food, party games and entertainment.

Come in fancy dress and take part in a celebration of our creative and vibrant community. Starting at the Fair Green the parade will weave down Green Street and Bridge Street ending in the Abbey Meadow for more festivities.

Join the club on a 60km cycle ride with a coffee break half way. A cycle helmet must be worn and making sure your bike is fully functional.

Boro is the Japanese art of mending textiles. Share your stories of your pre-loved denim and learn to visibly repair your items, using the embroidery technique of Sashiko.
