Retail Data Analysis using Pig and Hive
Role: Developer
Platform/Utility: hadoop - Pig, Hive.
This is for a major retail stores chain. Stores spread across globe generate millions of transactions logs on daily basis. Analyzing these logs would generate deeper insights and improve business. During peak hours, 1000’s of transactions will happen every second. These trasactions/sec across all stores contribute to high velocity. The most widely known varities of data generated by transactions are Json Format, Xml Format, Csv Format.
Challenges: Storage, Scalability, Processing and Sharing.
Goal: Processing these logs over night as a batch to understand:
1. Demand of a given product.2. Trend and seasonality of sales.3. Understand performance of chain.4. Loyal Customer identification.
