iPhone App Developments

These applications provide a real point of difference and keep our clients connected to the next generation of customers. One such example is Haymes Paints in Victoria.

Since launching their iColour app in November, more than 10,500 people have downloaded their iColour app. In a corresponding competition to promote the app, over 45,000 customers registered their details through Haymes’ website to win an iPhone loaded with iColour.

Autech’s newest iPhone for Stompin’ Dance Company has just been launched, with a new app for Jotun Paints (Norway) due for launch in August 2010, and an iPad application for professional painters also not far away.

Autech also specialise in the creation of interactive media rich applications for mobile devices – including the iPhone and new Google Android powered mobile phones.

Some Quick Facts…

iPhone a. There are over 1 million iPhones in Australia- almost 1 in 20 people have one.

This figure is growing at over 50,000 per month.

The Problem

Haymes wanted something to generate interest in the Haymes brand in the younger demographic – those people who have maybe just bought their first home and are looking to re-decorate to add their own personal touch. An iPhone application was the logical solution to get in touch with the next generation of DIY painters and tap into this new market.

The issue for Autech was to build the right application for users.

Thinking of painting? Having trouble

picking the right colour scheme? Don’t we

all.

Inspiration for your painting project can

strike anywhere – it can come from the

home or when you’re out and about, or even

when you're on holidays. But how do you

know what paint colours to use, or which

colours would match the colour of that

flower? That sunset? Or that ancient wall

painting?

This problem has plagued even the most

professional colour professionals for

centuries. We can take a guess and hope

that we find the best colour match, but how

can we be sure?

The Pitch:

The Solution

In September 2009, Autech were proud to launch Australia’s first paint colour matching application for the iPhone – Haymes iColour.

With Haymes iColour, matching colours you find in the real world to actual paint colours has never been easier. Simply snap a photo with your phone’s inbuilt camera and the iColour app matches the nearest Haymes Paint colour to your selected colour from the photo.

Don’t have time to match the colour there and then? No problem. Simply take a photo and then open it in iColour when you get home.

Haymes iColour allows you to pick any colour from your photos by simply tapping on the screen. The app then matches your desired colour to one of Haymes’ 1,150+ paint colours. Not only that, but iColour will then recommend a variety of different colour combinations that coordinate well with your selected colour using scientific colour theory and the colour wheel. And if you don’t like the schemes recommended - simply shake your phone to see a new range of schemes.

Haymes’ team of professional colour consultants have also been through the entire Haymes colour range and have put together a collection of Designer Schemes for each and every colour so there is sure to be one that suits your individual taste.

Once you have found your ideal colour scheme, you can find a Haymes Paint stockist either by your current location or by entering a post/zip code into the Store Locator. You will be shown the store name, address, contact details, a direct map and even have driving directions provided from your current location.

You can save your scheme for future reference and email it to friends and family, or even send it to your local dealer so they can have it already to go when you arrive at the store. Alternatively, you can save your scheme to your Facebook page and encourage your family and friends to comment on your colours or suggest changes.

The application is quick and easy to use with intuitive controls; pinch and squeeze your photos to zoom in and out, glide your fingers up and down the screen to scroll, swipe to delete saved schemes, plus much more.

Android Development

Based on the success of the iColour app for iPhone, Autech released and Android version of the program in early 2010.

This release of the program looks and functions exactly like the iPhone version of the app, delivering a consistent message to consumers across all platforms.

The Outcome

Success & Growth

Downloads of Haymes iColour grew

steadily at around 30% for each of the

first 5 months since the app’s release in

September 2009.

This figure reached over 2,600

downloads per month – or 86 per day -

in the middle of a competition Haymes

ran to capitalise on the success of the

application. Contestants were asked to

name a new Haymes colour, and in

return they were entered into the draw

to win an iPhone pre-loaded with

Haymes iColour, a 24 month pre-paid

phone contract, and over $1,500 worth

of Haymes Paint, the use of a colour

consultant and also a contract painter.

The competition, and the iColour

application, was promoted online, in

store, on radio, and through a series of

print ads in Home & Garden magazine.

The iColour page on Haymes’ website is

now one of top 10 most visited pages on

their site.

The response was amazing – over 4,500 people entered the competition, with iColour downloads increasing by 46% during the first few weeks of the promotion. 70% of entrants also signed up to the Haymes e-Newsletter, providing Haymes with more market reach and also valuable marketing data on their customer base.
