WELCOME | We are glad you chose to worship with us at 11contemporary today! Please complete a Connection Card and drop it in the giving basket so we can stay connected with you.
NEW MESSAGE SERIES: “The Heart of Worship” | Worship is at the core of all that we do in our lives, and it is the most important aspect of our faith journey as Christians. But it is also one of the most misunderstood and mishandled practices of faith. In this series, we will discuss our understanding of what worship is and what worship is not. We will also learn how we worship God and why God wants us to be in worship. We will get to the heart of worship as we seek to make worship a priority in our lives.
UPCOMING ADVENT SERIES | Beginning November 29, all of our worship services will come together (figuratively, not literally) for an Advent series called, “The Journey.” During this six week series leading up to Christmas, there will be worship journals available for you and your family to follow along. Additionally, all of the Sunday School classes on Sunday morning will have a small group study to coincide with the messages. To order a copy of the journal and learn more about the group options, contact Michele May at [email protected]
#SUNDAYSONGS | Music for today’s gathering: “Here for You,” “Happy Day,” “Hosanna (Praise is Rising),” “How Marvelous,” and “Revelation Song.”

CALL TO WORSHIP Rev. Brent Bohanan
Leader: We come with praise for the wonderful works of God. Even before we speak,
People: God knows us completely. Leader: The Holy One knows and sustains us, even in our moments of confusion and doubt. People: Who can count the thoughts of God? Leader: They are more than all the sands of the desert-like clay in the hand of the potter, we are
shaped into vessels of divine will. People: We come with praise for the wonderful works of God.
INVOCATION Rev. Bohanan
Lord God, by the power of your Holy Spirit open our ears to hear what you are saying to us in the things that
happen to us and in the people we meet. Open our eyes to see the needs of people around us. Open our
hands to do our work well, to help when help is needed. Open our lips to tell others the Good News of Jesus
and bring comfort and laughter to other people. Open our minds to discover new truth about you and the
world. Open our hearts to love you and our neighbors as you have loved us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
*OPENING HYMN To God Be the Glory UMH 98
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles’ Creed UMH 881
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
*GLORIA PATRI UMH 70 Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.
GREETING Rev. Bohanan
PRAYER CONCERNS/LORD’S PRAYER Rev. Frank Bernat
The altar is open for those who would like to kneel to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

ADVENT comes from the Latin word adventus meaning “coming and is a time of
expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the nativity of Jesus at
Christmas. The word Advent means "coming" or "arrival." The focus of the entire
season is preparation to celebrate the birth of Jesus the Christ in his First Advent,
and the anticipation of the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent. Thus,
Advent is far more than simply marking a 2,000 year old event in history. It is
celebrating a truth about God, the revelation of God in Christ whereby all of creation
might be reconciled to God. That is a process in which we now participate, and the
consummation of which we anticipate.
In this double focus on past and future, Advent also symbolizes the spiritual journey
of individuals and a congregation, as we affirm that Christ has come, that He is
present in the world today, and that He will come again in power. Advent is marked
by a spirit of expectation, of anticipation, of preparation, of longing. Come, Thou
Long Expected Jesus…
Bethlehem Firs UMC offers many opportunities during this Advent season for you to
anticipate the coming of Christ. Join us as we Journey to Bethlehem. Our Sunday
worship services guide us on this journey to Bethlehem. An Advent Devotion: The
Journey: A Season of Reflections, by Adam Hamilton is available for $7.00 and may
be purchased at one of the tables in the Narthex, Commons Area, or in the Stars
Café.
Please review the following pages and you will find a schedule of our worship
services, and events and activities to enhance your Advent season.

LOVELIGHTS 2015 | SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 29 | 7:00 PM
One of the Christmas traditions at BFUMC is the LoveLights project and service. This project
began over 20 years ago as a way to open the Christmas season and rejoice as the Light of the
World, Jesus Christ, renews our hearts. All funds received from this project are directed to a
special mission project each year.
On Sunday, November 29, 2015 the LoveLights service will be held at 7:00 p.m., in the Sanctuary,
where candles are lit to symbolize many people who have given light to our world.
This service is a very special time because we are able to remember loved ones who have passed
on, by naming them aloud as a candle is lit in their memory. It is also a time to honor family and
friends living today by reading their names and lighting a candle for them. A special bulletin is
prepared, listing the names of all those being remembered and honored, and serves as a
keepsake for many of us.
To have a name called and a candle lit, complete a LoveLights form for each person, attach $5.00
for each name, drop it in the offering plate or bring it by the church office.
You may choose to notify the person you are honoring. If so, provide their address on the form
and a letter is mailed from the church. If you’d like a letter sent to the family or relative of a
person you are remembering, provide that name and address, as well, and a letter will be sent to
the family. The FINAL deadline is Wednesday, November 18th.

In conjunction with our upcoming sermon series during Advent this year, five of our adult
Sunday School classes at 9:30 a.m. will be using the DVD study, The Journey by Adam Hamilton.

reflect and respond to this Christmas season. The cost of each devotional book is $7.

and 8:00 p.m. If you would like to participate you may sign up on-line at
