About us HANDS-Institute of Community Development (HANDS-ICD) is counted as one of the largest network of capacity building institutions of Pakistan in development sector. The institute is making efforts for human and institutional development at organizational and community/grass roots level. It is engaged for reducing poverty and promoting sustainable development through various training programs. We have developed several capacity building packages for community leaders, activists, doctors, academicians, teachers, professionals, government officials, students and community leaders/volunteers. HANDS-ICD believes that a rich learning experience matters and can become an instrument of positive transformation, of individuals and society as whole. HANDS ICD is working with its partners and sponsors to conduct and implement international and national training and exchange programs. These programs are personally meaningful, professionally motivating, and intellectually stimulating for all stakeholders. About the coursePeople are born female or male, but learn to be girls and boys, who grow into women & men. They are taught with the appropriate behaviors and attitudes, roles and activities for them, and how they should relate to other people. This learned behavior is what makes up Gender identity and determines gender roles.Gender refers to women’s & men’s roles and responsibilities that are socially determined. Gender is related to how we are perceived and expected to think and act as women and men because of the way society is organized not because of our biological differences. Research shows that Gender equality and women’s empowerment into poverty reduction, democratic governance, crisis prevention and recovery, and environment are a crucial factor to sustainable community development

Brainstorming Sessions, Lecture, Discussion, Small Group Discussion, Participatory Discussion, Experience Sharing, Group Planning, Pair Learning, Feedback, Simulation Games / Icebreakers, / Energizers, Self-Analysis, Case Study.

Training objectives

The training will enable participants to be more persuasive and sharp in understanding the minute delicacies of the global issue of gender and to learn ways and means as to how to help sooth with this issue.

The training event aims to contribute to a common understanding of terminology, core principles and effective approaches that help both professionals and organizations work together on gender programming.

Understanding Gender Based Violence (GBV) as a global human rights issue and its coping mechanism.

Enhancing the capacity of community members, social activists, NGO leaders, development practitioners.

Understanding media outreach and communication strategies towards gender development.

Expanding a network of awareness raising minds and souls through multiple tools and techniques.

Enhancing role and expertise of institutions and organization about gender issues and its dynamics to help achieve their staff be at a consistent level of knowledge.

Introducing a range of foundational information on gender equality.

Strengthening gender programming knowledge and skills required for both professionals.

Facilitator's profile

Ms Rahila Rahim is currently working as Senior General Manager Livelihood Enhancement Program & Gender and Development (LEP & GAD) in HANDS Pakistan. She has special interest in exploring and contributing in the areas of both Gender and Development. Ms Rahila is a master

trainer in the field of Gender and Development with special focus on coping mechanisms to Gender Based Violence.

Ms Rahim possesses theoretical and practical understanding of gender and different sectors of poverty alleviation. She has been demonstrating her abilities in designing & development of gender promotion policies, gender code of conduct and harassment policy of HANDS & implemented the same in all the field offices of HANDS. Ms Rahim has also been designing capacity building modules on gender and women’s protection related laws. She has been advocating women’s issues at various platforms through inclusion of women legislations, empowerment, gender issues, economic empowerment and poverty alleviation themes.

Ms Rahim is member of women’s empowerment forums including civil society advisory group of UN Women, Women Action Forum at Karachi Chapter, Member of Gender Coalition Human Rigthts Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and others. She has international exposure of visiting India, Nepal Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Turkey.
