After digestion in small intestine…..What happen to the digested food?

Listen! Obama is asking.

Page 3: Absorption of Digested Food!

After the food is completely digested in ileum…the digested food is absorbed into the body!

Then…what does the digested food contains?

Look! Einstein in action!

Obama ask again!

Digested food

Simple SugarAmino Acid

Fatty Acid

Glycerol

Vitamin

MineralJust look at the mind map I made! So easy to understand, right?

Page 5: Absorption of Digested Food!

Yes… errr…

How does absorption occurs?

You don’t know?

How can you call yourself my student!?

Einstein is angry……

Obama is my worse student.

Page 6: Absorption of Digested Food!

First! Familiar yourself with this diagram!

Page 7: Absorption of Digested Food!

Fat-soluble substance and water-soluble substance goes through different process to be absorbed.

Page 8: Absorption of Digested Food!

•Enter the epithelial cells-recombine to form tiny droplets of lipids

•Absorb into Lacteal

•Flow into lymphatic system

•Drained into the right lymphatic duct and thoracic duct

•Flow into subclavian veins finally flow into blood stream which lead to body cell.

Let talk about Fat-soluble Substance first. Copy down these notes, Obama!

Fat-soluble substance

Page 9: Absorption of Digested Food!

You’re the MAN!

But what about Glucose and Animo Acids?

Ayoh! You sure fail in your biology test!

Amino Acids!

Not Animo Acids!

Page 10: Absorption of Digested Food!

Water-soluble substance – very simple

Please listen! Obama!

Glucose, amino acid, Water-soluble substanceMove from lumen into epithelial

cell by facilitated diffusion.

The remaining nutrients are transported by active transport.

Page 11: Absorption of Digested Food!

Glucose, amino acid, Water-soluble substanceThen, they are transported to the blood stream

All blood capillaries converge into the hepatic portal vein, which leads to the liver

From liver, they are transported to all part of the body

Obama… can you understand?

I

Then do you still remember the adaptations of Ileum for absorption?

Page 15: Absorption of Digested Food!

Err… Sorry Teacher Einstein…

I have forgotten.

That is okay.

I’ll teach again!

So listen carefully!

Obama

my worst student!

Page 19: Absorption of Digested Food!

Oh ya! I remember! Then…arr… What happens after the absorption in small intestine?

Why you keep asking this old man?I have already retired from teaching Biology!

Page 20: Absorption of Digested Food!

Yes…Yes…

After absorption, The food substances are going to be assimilated…

Understand or not?

Page 21: Absorption of Digested Food!

Assimilation of digested food

Glucose Amino

Acids LipidsEach substances goes through different process.

Page 22: Absorption of Digested Food!

GlucoseGlucose transported to liver goes through these processes:

•Transported to body cells – used in metabolism

•Excess glucose in converted into glycogen – stored in muscle and liver

•Excess glucose is converted to fat – stored in adipose tissue

Page 23: Absorption of Digested Food!

Amino AcidsAmino acid goes through these processes in liver:

•Assimilated into different types of protein – enzymes and plasma proteins

•When glucose and glycogen is in short supply – amino acid is converted into glucose

•Excess amino acids – deamination occurs – produces carbohydrate and ammonia – carbohydrate used for metabolism while ammonia is converted into urea and excreted through kidney

Page 24: Absorption of Digested Food!

LipidLipid such as phospholipids and cholesterol are major component of plasma membrane.

Fat are stored to protect organ, reserve energy.

Excess fat is stored in adipose tissue

Fat are oxidized to release energy when the body lacks glucose.

Don’t worry! My notes is the best! I am the best in Biology! You can trust me in Biology!

Page 25: Absorption of Digested Food!

Look at the diagram below! You can also find this in your text book in page 119.

Page 26: Absorption of Digested Food!

Why you are so good in Biology?I thought you are a Physics Freek!

Because everybody don’t like Physics. And everybody don’t like to be a physicist…So I change my carrier…I am a Biologist!

Page 27: Absorption of Digested Food!

Anymore question?

What is the function of Liver?

Page 28: Absorption of Digested Food!

I am not going to tell you!President of USA!

WHY should I ask you?Biology is NOT important!I should not be talking to this stupid old man!
