Strengthening using wrapped Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) laminates has becomean effective technique to enhance the behavior of damaged RC columns. Theadvantages are high Strength Compared to its weight, corrosion resistance and spacesavings. The confinement effects of FRP laminates and steel stirrups were considered. Many simplified analytical models were developed to predict the ultimate capacity ofFRP confined RC columns. However, such these models cannot provide accurateresults. The present paper provides a calibration study of material parameters of theConcrete Damaged Plasticity Model (CDPM) model available in ABAQUS program. The calibrated parameters include dilation angle, viscosity, yield surface shape andeccentricity of concrete. Nineteen experimental specimens were collected fromliterature. Two of them were used to calibrate the parameters of the CDPM model. Then, the remaining specimens were used to examine the accuracy of calibratedparameters. Results have shown that, CDPM provide an accurate prediction of theultimate capacity of FRP confined RC columns using dilation angle, viscosity, yieldsurface shape and eccentricity of concrete of 56, 0.0, 0.667 and 0.1 respectively.Keywords.Finite element method. FRP confinement, RC columns, concrete damage plasticity.

This paper investigates numerically the effectiveness of introducing stiffeners to cold-formed steel (CFS) sections. The stiffeners were employed to web and/or flanges oflipped channel sections at different locations to evaluate the performance of bothsymmetric and un-symmetric cross-sections. A three-dimensional finite element modelhas been developed to predict the flexural behavior and ultimate strength of CFSchannel subjected to pure bending. The model was verified against experimentalresults and showed a good agreement with experimental results in term of ultimateloads, load-deformation curves and failure mode. The verified model was then adoptedfor extensive parametric study to investigate the moment-curvature curves of CFSchannels with various geometries of stiffened sections. The comparison shows thatapplying stiffeners to web and/or compression flange were found to be a very effectivetechnique to delay the geometric failure and enhancing the CFS channel performancein pure bending. However, introduced stiffeners to lower flange of CFS channel, inorder to preserve cross-section symmetry, were useless in enhancing of bendingstrength. 2Suez-Canal University, Faculty of Engineering, Civil Engineering Dept.

This study presents the effect of seismic hazards due to the earthquake on thedisplacements of embankments. Finite element analysis was applied in order toevaluate the displacements of an embankment model consisting of dense sand on rockfoundation subjected to the seismic Petrolia earthquake with peak ground acceleration(PGA) of 413.5 cm/sec2. Using the PLAXIS 2D dynamic program, the undrainedanalysis was performed using Mohr-Coulomb criteria. Core construction with differentwidths and materials was used within the embankment body. Medium clay, stiff clay, concrete, and asphaltic concrete were chosen to represent the core material. The resultsrevealed that concrete and asphaltic concrete core could reduce vertical and horizontaldisplacements of the embankment better than stiff and medium clay cores. Based onthese results, it can be concluded that concrete asphaltic concrete cores are safe underseismic loads and can meet the seismic design criteria.

COMPARISON BETWEEN THE COLUMN EFFECT AND SLABTHICKNESS ON PUNCHING CAPACITY FOR SLAB COLUMN

CONNECTION Safaa Abd-El raheem1*, Hany Madkour2, Osama Ali3.

1 Civil Eng. Dept, Faculty of Engineering, Aswan University, Egypt, [email protected] 2 Civil Eng. Dept, Faculty of Engineering, Aswan University, Egypt. 3 Civil Eng. Dept, Faculty of Engineering, Aswan University, Egypt.

Reinforced concrete flat slabs are a common structural system for cast-in-placeconcrete slabs. Failures in punching shear near the column regions are typicallygoverning at ultimate. In case no punching shear or integrity reinforcement is placed, failures in punching develop normally in a brittle manner with almost no warningsigns. With choosing two parameters that have effect on punching capacity (slabthickness and column dimensions). then, study them with Damage plasticity model inABAQUS program. Increasing slab thickness caused a huge increase in ultimate loadwhile, increasing column with the same rate almost does not cause a desirableincreasing in ultimate load. Tension damage represent the initiation from the corner ofthe column then, propagated towards edges of supports. Keywords: Flat slabs, Punching shear, Concrete damage plasticity, Finite elementmethod, Crack initiation, Crack propagation.

Recently, 60 GHz wireless networks have drawn much attention due to availability ofhuge bandwidth around 60 GHz frequency band which has ability to support very highdata rate, i.e., up to 6.7 Gbps. This is also called millimetre wave (mmWave)networking which paves the way for realization of Gigabit WLANs. However, heavyattenuation at 60 GHz frequency band limits the range of transmitted signal up to fewmeters. In order to extend the range of 60 GHz signal, Use of directional antennashave been suggested as the most viable solution. Directional antennas use array ofantennas to beamform in a particular direction. The difficulty arises when a user ismoving. It is a challenging task to track the movement of a user and thus direct thebeam in intended direction. According to the IEEE802.11 ad standard, each deployedmmWave AP in the target environment performs an exhaustive beam forming training(BT) to track the moving user to maintain the link. In this paper, we propose ammWave user tracking scheme in outdoor environment based on the previous userequipment (UE) context information’s. Where, the preceding beam ID directions usedto predict a group of mmWave Tx beams to search on them to find out the best beamID for the next UE location. Simulations show that the proposed scheme highlyreduces BT complexity comparable to conventional scheme with conversing almostsame performance. This paper develops a grid linked single stage one phase inverter for PV applications. The developed inverter has the ability to output a voltage with amplitude less orgreater than the DC source voltage and extracting the ultimate PV power in onejuncture. The developed inverter has the advantage of using a single inductor to outputthe positive and negative halves of the grid voltage which eliminates parametersmismatching problem. A high efficiency is achieved by the suggested inverter as witha view to output the positive part of the grid wave only one switch is run at theswitching frequency and to create the negative part of the grid wave a different twoswitches are run at the switching frequency. A reduced voltage stress on two of itsswitching components to the input voltage instead of the output one is also achieved.Dissection and designing of the suggested inverter at Discontinuous Conduction Mode(DCM) are introduced in the paper to ensure transmitting current to the grid in phasewith the grid voltage. With a view to check the validation of the developed inverterand its MPPT control simulation outcomes are inserted in this paper. Nowadays DC motor plays important role in many applications around us, DC motorhas good characteristics. This paper discussed the effect of load disturbance. The paperrepresented Disturbance Feedback Control (DFC) to avoid bad effect of external loaddisturbance. Beside the conventional controller, DFC is as a position controller of a DC motor todeal with the load disturbance problem which has a bad effect on system and itsperformance, in this system used more than one of traditional controllersuch asProportional – integral – derivative (PID), Proportional - integral (PI), and 2 DegreeOf Freedom (2DOF) because they most popular controller at industrial application. The system tested by step load change and simulation results supported the importanceof the DFC. USING EIGENVALUE SENSITIVITIES TO DESIGN CLASSICAL SSRDAMPING CONTROLLER FOR FRC-WTS

Hadir., Ewais A. M., Alsaady G. A.

Faculty of Energy Engineering, Aswan University, [email protected]

Subsynchronous Resonance (SSR) damping controller is designed as a supplementarycontroller within the grid-side converter of Fully Rated Converter-Based WindTurbines (FRC-WTs) to SSR within the steam turbine shafts. The applications ofeigenvalue sensitivity technique are used to choose the most suitable control inputsignal to design the SSR damping controller for the grid side converter of FRC-WTs.The most suitable feedback signal is determined by using eigenvalue sensitivities. Thecontroller design comprises two steps: the design of the phase compensation networkand the calculation of the controller gain. A detailed state space model of FRC-WTsconnected to IEEE First Benchmark Model (FBM) is developed for small-signalanalysis using eigenvalue analysis. Time domain simulations are carried out tovalidate the eigenvalue analysis results. The simulations are performed in MATLAB.The analysis emphasized by the results reveal that synchronous generator speeddeviation is the most suitable control input signal to mitigate the torsional oscillationsin the steam turbine caused by SSR and after those d-q components of the terminalcurrent. As interests related to sustainable and clean energy have expanded, harvesting of windenergy by using Offshore Wind Turbines (OWTs) has become an attractive option forthe future energy. Foundations represent the majority of the construction cost ofOWTs. To reduce the construction cost of OWTs, choosing a foundation type withminimum cost and sufficient stiffness is a challenging. One of the most popular typesof OWTs foundations is the monopile. Another foundation type is the Suction bucketwhich is considered as an innovation concept in the framework of OWTs structures. This paper aims at performing a comparison between these two foundation types inorder to select the most economic and the most stable one to be used as an OWTsfoundation. The comparison involves the cost and the capacity of each type. It shouldbe noticed that the analysis is performed in case of dense sand. The commercial finiteelement software ABAQUS 6.14 is used to investigate the lateral behavior of theaforementioned foundation types. Key words: Monopile, Suction bucket, Offshore wind turbines, Sand soil.

The determination of the axial monopile capacity is among the important issues foroffshore energy projects. The axial monopile capacity is a function of the skin frictionof the monopile shaft and the end-bearing capacity of the monopile tip. This paperaims at studying the behavior of monopiles subjected to vertical loading andembedded in cohesive soils. Despite the progress in this field, the available data is stillnot sufficient due to inaccuracy of the analytical models exist in technical standardssuch as the American Petroleum Institute(API, 2014). Thus, three-dimensional finiteelement analysis is necessary to accurately calculate the axial capacity of monopiles. In this paper, 3D Finite Element Models (FEM) based on the commercial finite-element package, ABAQUS 6.14 are used to study the behavior of the monopilesembedded in cohesive soils and subjected to vertical loads. The behavior of both smalland large diameter monopiles is studied in this paper. Keywords: Offshore foundation, Monopiles, Vertical load, cohesive soil.

Micro-inverters recently become more attractive due to its modularity and independentmaximum power point tracking for each individual PV module. In Micro-Inverters, itis important to convert the PV available power with maximum possible efficiency.Typically, a Micro-Inverter consists of two important stages; a DC-DC Converter andDC-AC Inverter. This paper proposes the operation and control for both Micro-inverter stages. LLC resonant converter is presented as a first stage for the PV micro-inverter. The selection of the LLC resonant converter comes from its inherent featuressuch as: high efficiency converter for wide range of input voltage and load variation, due to its ZVS/ZCS features, possibility of achieving high voltage gain due to thepresence of the HF transformer achieved. The second stage of the Micro-inverter isconstructed from three phase h-bridge inverter, the inverter is controlled to inject asinusoidal current in phase with the grid voltage and to maintain a fixed dc linkvoltage. Keywords: Resonant Micro-inverter, PV, ZVS/ZCS, LLC resonant converter.

a* Faculty of Engineering, Aswan University, Egypt ([email protected])

Nowadays, Precise Point Positioning (PPP) is a very popular technique for GNSSpositioning. The advantage of PPP is its low cost as well as no distance limitationwhen compared with the differential technique. This research aims to assess the effectof using observations from both GPS and GLONASS constellations in comparisonwith GPS only for kinematic purposes. A track in the New Aswan City, Aswan, Egyptwas observed using Leica GS15, geodetic type, dual-frequency, GPS/GLONASSGNSS receiver. The receiver was fixed on the roof of a moving vehicle with aconstant velocity of 20 km/hour using a steel triangular base with 95 cm side length.the observed track has been processed using the Canadian Spatial Reference SystemPrecise Point Positioning online service (CSRS-PPP, 2019) once with GPS onlyobservations and the other with GPS/GLONASS observations. In order to evaluatethe results, a differential solution was performed using Leica Geo Office softwareversion 7.0. The reference point is a local point whose coordinates have been acquiredfrom static observation. in terms of results, it was found that the error from differentialfor both north and height components improved from the range of 10 cm to 5 cm. TheRMSE improved by 77% and 47.5% in the east and height components. Also, theaverage satellite number and PDOP value significantly improved after addingGLONASS satellites. These results show that a significantly improved accuracy canbe gained by using multi-constellation observations. This opens the way to addobservations from the other two constellations (GALILEO and BeiDou) for moreaccuracy in future research. Keywords: Precise Point Positioning, PPP, GPS, GLONASS.

Production of biogas from wastes, like; sewage sludge, fruits and vegetable wastes, has double benefits; first is minimizing these wastes and second is energy recovery. The goal of this study is to improve biogas production from anaerobic co-digestion ofprimary sludge (PS) with fruit and vegetable wastes (FVW) in batch reactors usingdifferent inoculum types. Bio-chemical methane potential (BMP) tests were carriedout in 500 mL glass reactor. BMP tests were performed under mesophilic conditions(35- 37°C). In the first BMP tests, six mixtures with PS to FVW ratios of 100 to 0, 70to 30, 50 to 50, 30 to 70, 20 to 80, and 0 to 100 (based on volatile solids) wereperformed to establish the best mixture for an optimal biogas production. In the secondBMP tests, three types of inoculum were used to identify the optimal inoculum for thegreatest biogas production. Characteristics of initial digestion feed were performedusing standard methods, where the measurements of methane were conducted usinggas chromatograph. The highest biogas yields were observed at PS to FVW ratio of50: 50, which was higher than the individual digestion of the other used feedstocks. However, the minimum biogas yields were recorded at PS to FVW ratio of 20: 80. Onthe other hand, using the activated sludge as inoculum improved the biogas yieldsfrom anaerobic co-digestion of PS with FVW compared with the other types ofinoculum. The measured results were statistically analyzed by ANOVA test. Theresults conducted that, the biogas production was improved by anaerobic co-digestionof PS with FVW, and using the activated sludge as inoculum.KEYWORDS: Biogas production; primary sludge; fruit and vegetable wastes; anaerobic co-digestion; BMP test; inoculum type.

In this paper, a natural SF was extracted from Bombyx mori silkcocoons in a simple process to generate SF solution without any organic solvent.Blending SF with synthetic polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer at different blendingratios of 90 % to 80% of PVA in deionized water for electrospinning technique togenerate a 3D nanofiber architecture. The resulted nanofiber scaffolds find to improvePVA/SF biodegradability, biocompatibility, and mechanical properties whichconsidered as essential demand to CTE requirements. The fabricated patches find tohave a superior property at a percentage of 80/20 from PVA/ Silk. The higher the SFcontent the higher tensile strength was obtained and control of degradation rate invitro after crosslinking process. This paper proposes a novel intelligence technique known as Electro-SearchOptimization (ESO) for optimal online tuning of the controller’s gains for an isolatedmicrogrid. The tuning performance of the algorithm is evaluated by comparing theperformance of the proposed controller with conventional integral (I) controller. ESOhas been used to optimize the PID controller’s gains to provide a compromise betweenthe frequency response’s settling time, rise time and maximum overshoot. Theproposed system has been tested for various simultaneous step load perturbation (SLP)and changing in PV power to reveal the effectiveness and robustness of the proposedscheme. The results indicated that the system with adaptive ESO technique is morerobustness enough to operate under different operating conditions and systemparameter variations. Keywords: Load frequency control, Microgrid, Adaptive control and Optimizationtechnique.

Introduction: Persistent, profound hypotension is a common phenomenon in sepsis.Aggressive fluid resuscitation to restore tissue perfusion is considered a cornerstone ofearly sepsis &septic shock management. As arterial blood pressure (ABP) results frominteraction between arterial system & blood ejected by the heart, thus the response ofABP to fluids continues to be a challenge. Assessment of preload dependency wasextensively studied in recent years, a few studies focused on ABP prediction tointravascular volume expansion. Objectives: Functional assessment of arterial load bydynamic arterial elastance (Eadyn), to predict ABP response to fluid challenge (FC) inhypotensive, preload dependent septic patients. Methods: this is observational studyconducted at Trauma & Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) of Cairo Universityhospital. Enrolled patients were mechanically ventilated adults admitted with sepsisaccording to 2016 Surviving Sepsis Campaign criteria, excluding patients youngerthan 18 years, Pregnant females, trauma patients, history of vasodilator therapy orarrhythmias. Preload dependency was defined if stroke volume variation (SVV) ≥10 %(obtained from electrical cardiometry) or pulse pressure variation (PPV) ≥ 13%(obtained from invasive blood pressure monitoring). Two sets of hemodynamicmeasurements were obtained, the 1st on admission & then after an FC (200 ml normalsaline). Eadyn (PPV/SVV) was calculated. Patients were classified after FC as MAPresponders (≥10% increase in MAP) & MAP non-responders (< 10%increase inMAP). Results: Out of 58 patients, 21(36%) were MAP responders. At baseline,Eadyn was significantly higher in responders (0.93 ± 0.2) vs. non responders(0.79 ±0.3). The Area under Curve (AUC) for pre infusion Eadyn (0.687 ± 080; 95% CI:0.530 - 0.843; ). An optimal cut off of 0.80 to predict 10% MAP increase after FC in septic patients (91.0% sensitivity & 47.8% specificity. Conclusion: Eadyn may predict arterial pressure response to FC in hypotensive,preload- dependent septic patients with fair sensitivity but poor specificity. It can beinterpreted as a dynamic index of arterial tone. Key words: Preload dependency, Fluid challenge, Dynamic arterial elastance.

Background: Epididymal and vas deferens anomalies are not rare among children whohad cryptorchidism, it may affect the proper function of the operated testicles; mainly thefertility. Herein, we study the incidence and varieties of the epididymis and vas deferensanomalies among boys with undescended testes. Material and Methods: Data were collected retrospectively from 6 centers for patientwith undescended testicles operated during the period from September 2015 to August2018. All patients that involved congenital anomalies of epididymis or vas deferensdiscovered incidentally during operative intervention for cryptorchidism (open orlaparoscopic) and included photographic reports were included in our study. Levels of Evidence: Level II, Retrospective Study. Results: A total of 467 cases with undescended testes that underwent surgery wereidentified. Intervention was performed by open inguinal incision, laparoscopy, and bycombined inguinal incision and laparoscopy on 248, 190 and 29 patients, respectively. Only22 patients had photographic reports for congenital anomalies of vas deferens andepididymis. The incidence rate was 4.7%.The age range (8months–125months)(mean=34months). The congenital epididymal and vas deferens anomalies were morecommon on the left side than the right side in patients with cryptorchidism as Pearson Chi-square test was equal to 0.038. Attachment anomalies between the epididymis and testeswere the most common epididymal anomalies (36.3%), while a vanished vas deferens wasthe most frequent vas deferens anomaly (18%). Three patients had absent vas deferens, twohad curled vas deferens, two had separated vas deferens from the epididymis, and one hadduplicated vas deferens. Three patients had an epididymal cyst, one had enlarged appendixof the epididymis and one had epididymal agensis. There is no statistically significantdifference between testicle localization and epididymal anomaly. Pearson Chi-square test=.059. Conclusion: Intense attention must be paid during any surgery performed on undescendedtestes as an anomaly of the vas deferens could be tragic. Most of the common anomalies ofthe vas deferens or epididymis that present in cases of cryptorchidism occur on the left side.

Objective: Using endoscopic-assisted technique for fixation of subcondylar fracturesis accepted by many surgeons. our aim is to find if using endoscopy in fixing ofsubcondylar cases with no absolute indication for ORIF1 will have any additionaladvantages over MMF2 or not. Patients and Methods: A total of 30 patients with mandibular subcondylar fracturewith no absolute indication for open reduction and internal fixation were included anddivided in two groups randomly. first group were treated by conservatively withMandibulomaxilary fixation while the second group treated by transoral endoscopic-assisted open reduction and internal fixation. All patients were followedpostoperatively for 6 months and several parameters are used to compare between bothgroups like occlusion, deviation, maximum mouth opening and postoperative pain. Results: the endoscopic group showed overall better results in comparison withconservative group. Conclusion: The endoscopic-assisted open reduction and internal fixation is aconsistent technique for treating subcondylar fractures. Patients treated by thistechnique have a better result both clinically and radiographically, compared withclosed reduction, which gives inferior results. Transfer of the terminal anterior interosseous nerve to the extensor carpi radialisbrevis branch of the radial nerve for restoration of wrist dorsiflexion in extensivepartial brachial plexus injuries Patients with lesions affecting C7 and C8 roots (inaddition to C56) demonstrate loss of independent wrist dorsiflexion in addition to lossof shoulder abduction and elbow flexion. Traditionally, this deficit has been addressedusing tendon transfers after useful function at the shoulder and elbow has beenrestored by primary nerve surgery. Confidence with nerve transfer techniques hasprompted attempts to replace this method by incorporating procedures for wristdorsiflexion in the primary operation itself. Bertelli has led this move by publishinghis results using the terminal portion of the anterior interosseous nerve to reinnervatethe extensor carpi radialis brevis. The authors would like to present their experience with this technique. From March 2013 to December 2015, 23 patients of extensive partial palsies weretreated by surgical reconstruction. Of these 23 cases, follow-up data was available for20 patients. The mean age was 30 years (range 21-49 years) and the average delayprior to surgery was 4.7 months (range 1.5 to 9 months). Surgery involved explorationof the neck to confirm the lesion followed by nerve reconstructed aimed at restorationof shoulder abduction and elbow flexion. In addition, the radial nerve was exposed inthe proximal forearm and the loss of ecrl/ecrb functions was confirmed by stimulation. The anterior interosseous nerve was exposed and divided within the pronatorquadratus. The radial branch to ecrb was divided proximally and turned distally to becoapted to the anterior interosseous nerve. The forearm and wrist were notimmobilized following surgery. The average follow-up was 21 months (range 11.5 to 45 months). In 17 of the 20patients (85%) wrist extension scored M4 while in the other 3 cases (15%) it scoredM3 with full range of wrist extension was achieved in all patients. The wrist function was noted simultaneously with the improving shoulder and elbowfunctions and, hence, the rehabilitation process was shortened. The patients did notspecific instructions to activate the extensor carpi radialis brevis. The pronation of theforearm was preserved in most patients because of the remaining muscles of theflexor-pronator group. Background: Severe COPD exacerbations necessitating mechanical ventilationrepresenting major aspect of disease management. Most weaning investigators havetried to find better weaning parameters which may correctly predict the outcome ofweaning from mechanical ventilation in those patients. Aim of the work: was to study the accuracy of some weaning indices including, RSBIand the determinants of the respiratory muscle power including (NIF, P0.1 and lastly P0.1/NIF). Patients and Methods: 102 COPD patients necessitating mechanical ventilation >24h underwent daily screen of subjective and objective indices for weaning readiness, and patients were classified according to the latest recommendations into (simpleweaning group) (Group A) (60 patients) and (non- simple weaning group) including(difficult and prolonged weaning categories) (Group B) (42 patients). Results: There were no significant observed difference regarding the demographicdata between the two groups. RSBI, NIF, P0.1, and P0.1/ NIF ratio were considerablydifferent between the 2 groups of weaning (P value < 0.05). NIF with a cutoff value ≤-19 had the highest AUC which was highly precise compared with the other weaningindices. Conclusion: NIF a cutoff value ≤ -19is a powerful predictor of weaningaccomplishment in mechanically ventilated COPD patients.

Background: As the prevalence of erectile dysfunction ED was >40% among Arabmen, the implantation of malleable penile prosthesis is considered as third line fortreatment of ED. Surgeons using different surgical technique to minimize woundinfections and to decrease the risk of mechanical failure. Malleable prostheses aremore financially suitable in Egypt than inflatable. The aim of the study: is tocompare outcome of infrapubic and Penoscrotal approaches for implantation ofmalleable prosthesis. Patients and methods: Thirty-eight patients were randomlydivided into two groups and each group underwent one approach at Aswan universityhospital from Jan 2016 to Dec 2018. Results superficial wound infection which wasmore with penoscrotal (PS) (26.3%) and infrapubic (IP) were 2/19 (10.5%). thedifference in infection rate was statistically non-significant with No significant relationbetween diabetes and infections. Both Scrotal and penile shaft edema was (68.4%)with infrapubic in comparison with Penoscrotal cases was (89.5%). urethralcatheterization was (52.6%) infrapubic and (100%) in penoscrotal patients which wasstatistically significant (p value 0.001). No urethral injury was reported in bothapproaches. No statically significant differences were found between both groups inthe operative time. Corporeal cross over was the most common intraoperativecomplications, 2 cases in IP approach and 5 cases in PS but was not statisticallysignificant. There was statistically significant improvement in the IIEF-5 before andafter both surgical technique (p value, < 0.001).The patients and their partner'ssatisfaction in both approaches using Moskovic questionnaire were satisfied (score ≥3) and there is no statistically significant difference in satisfaction degree between thetwo surgical approaches . Conclusion: the infrapubic approach is an effective surgicaltechnique with less infection rate and urethral catheterization. Implanting malleableprosthesis is an effective line for treatment of ED patients with high satisfaction ratefor patients and their partners. Keywords: Infrapubic, penoscrotal, Erectile Dysfunction, Malleable Penile Prosthesis, satisfaction

أثر المياه في معركة القادسية

The impact of water in the battle of Qadisiyah
