ABSTRACT ART COLLECTIVE NEWSLETTER SEpTEmbER 2017 PAGE 1 of 9 SEP 2017 AAC Annual Meeting & Potluck Picnic: September 24th Takedown for ArtSEE at the JCC: Thursday, August 17th, 10am–1pm AAC ANNUAL MEETING AND POTLUCK PICNIC W ith special thanks to organizers Michael Marzolla and Thore Edgren, we’re happy to announce this year’s AAC Annual Mem- bership meeting and Potluck Picnic. Here are the most important details: Date: Sunday, September 24th, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Place: Stow Grove Park, Goleta. (Entrance is on N. La Patera Lane, just south of Cathedral Oaks Road, and we will be in Area 3.) What to bring: Everyone should bring a favor- ite dish or snacks to share. We will provide wine, mineral water, bottled water, paper plates, cups and eating utensils. The planned schedule is to have a Happy Hour from 11:00 to 12:00, followed by lunch at noon and the meet- ing at 1:00. A portion of the meeting will include: General update regarding the overall financial health of the organization, and the current size and structure of the AAC board of directors; Review of 2017’s exhibitions and overall member participation; Membership update; Preliminary plans for 2018’s exhibition schedule and possible new venues. But most importantly, we really want to hear from you, our members. This is a great opportunity for you to tell us (the AAC board) what you really think about anything and everything related to what we’re doing (or not doing) as an organization. So, over the next month and a half, give some thought to things like: Does the AAC still matter to you? Does it play a positive role in your art? Exhibition venues—where do you think your work is best represented? Frequency of exhibitions—we had lower-than-usual participation in this year’s Faulkner and JCC exhibi- tions, perhaps due to their close timing? Other activities—our first Live Critique session was a success and we learned a lot about how to do these kinds of things; but should we do more? emed exhibitions—there are attractive gallery spaces that have a particular focus (e.g., nature at the Wilding Museum in Solvang). Should we explore? Exhibitions to benefit other organizations—groups like SCAPE organize well-attended art exhibitions with a portion of sales proceeds going to environ- mental and other good causes. Should we explore? Anything else you would like to ask or discuss. One additional thing: we need your help on the AAC board. Per the agenda above, we will talk about this in more detail, but the bottom line is we need more board participation from our membership. Our current board now consists of just six people, not really enough to share the workload efficiently. So if you have expe- rience working as part of an organization or team, let us know if you would like to talk more about the board and where/how you might be able to contribute. Finally, this picnic is a great way to spend some time together and further the cause of the AAC. Be sure to join us and your fellow artists on September 24th.

Pamela Benham “Paintings in Three Movements”Posted April 1st by Toby Qualls in SEASONS Magazine

Pamela Benham is a dynamic painter. Her path through artistry has traversed through impressionistic landscapes, photorealistic portraits and now—perhaps her greatest niche—is the abstract. Benham is a master of contrast and shape, as her paintings never fail to astonish, even in their intangible forms.

Benham’s artwork has been shown all over the globe. From New York to Paris, Benham’s pieces have impressed viewers the world over. However, in these travels, Ben-ham has been most taken with Santa Barbara. She now considers this area her home, and wishes to share her tal-ents with the community.

Benham’s artwork will be on display at the Faulkner West Gallery (40 E. Anapamu St.) from April 3–29. Art-ist receptions will take place April 6 (5–8 p.m.) and April 7 (5:30–7:30 p.m.). Benham is excited to introduce her art to the Santa Barbara community.

oF inTERESTMarlise Senzamici, AAC’s webmaster, would like to re-mind everyone to email for instructions on submitting work for your free portfolio posting on AAC’s website at: www.abstractartcollective.com. Portfolios may be accessed through AAC’s Members Gallery page. This is a nice opportunity to be included in our Members’ Gallery of artwork. Email Marlise for explicit details: [email protected].
