IAAHEHs development has been facilitated by Health Professional
Education Quality (HPEQ) project, DGHE, MoEC since 2009. This
facilitation took form in: Technical assistance by a consultant who
is an accreditation specialist from North America who had been
previously involved with Liaison Committee for Medical Education
(LCME). Benchmarking study to the United States of America for
Medicine (involving a visit to LCME), Dentistry, and Midwifery and
to Canada for Nursing. 2

According to Law No. 20 year 2003 regarding National Education
System, article 60 paragraph 2 states that the accreditation of
educational program is carried out by the Government and/or any
authorized independent institution as a form of public
accountability. Furthermore, referring to Law No. 12 year 2012
regarding Higher Education, article 55 paragraph 5 mentions that
accreditation of study program as a form of public accountability
is carried out by independent accreditation agencies. 5

The objective of accreditation by IAAHEH Accreditation by
IAAHEH is not merely to award accreditation status and rank for the
study program, but more importantly, it is to build awareness,
motivation, and concrete actions that will lead to the
institutionalization of culture of continuous quality improvement.

Accreditation in 2014 Recently, accreditation is being
performed for 282 study programs (medicine, dentistry, nursing, and
midwivery) While waiting to be granted permit for accreditation of
study programs by the Minister of Education, The Board of Directors
of IAAHEH serves as the team of accreditation formed by DGHE to
conduct the accreditation; Accreditation being conducted for 282
study programs is still under the supervision of National
Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (NAAHE / BAN-PT) 15

Constraints Ministerial Decree on Accreditation of Higher
Education as basis for IAAHEHs operation If the ministerial decree
will be issued this year and IAAHEH will get the permit for
accreditation this year also, the accreditation by IAAHEH will
officially start in 2015 16
