Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome!

It is a blessing to have you join the Sacred Heart worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Your presence and prayerful

participation enrich our Liturgy. May the Risen Lord enlighten your mind with the Word of God and nourish your spirit with the Bread of Life. Thanks for joining us!! This Feast, the Exaltation of the Cross, connects exaltation with the cross. It seems to be a contradiction in terms. The “cross” conveys pain, suffering and death. “Exaltation” conveys dignity, power, honor and praise. Only with faith can we reconcile the “cross” and “exaltation.” In faith, we recognize the crucified Jesus as exalted. It is that same faith that enables us to learn that our exaltation comes through the crosses we bear in this life. We will be exalted in emptying ourselves for others as Christ did. We will be exalted through a humble way of living, like Jesus. This Sunday is Red & White Day, the Parish Picnic! I hope you will join us!! Check today’s bulletin for more information. Many thanks to the Picnic Committee and the many volunteers who provide a fun day for young and old. Our Religious Education Program for our children attending public school begins this Monday and Wednesday. I thank Sr. Kate for all she does in preparing for a new year of Religious Education. Thanks to all the volunteers who assist Sr. Kate as teacher, aide and staff. You bless our Parish and our young parishioners with your time and talent as you nurture the faith of your students. I pray the coming months will be a time of many blessings. I am grateful!! Next weekend begins our attempt to highlight “FAMILY” in preparation for the “World Meeting of Families” in September 2015. I invite our parish families to come next weekend to worship as a family. I know it’s not easy, but try your best. We are designating the 3rd Sunday of each month

“Family Sunday” with the hope that families will come to Church as family.

Hope to see you at the Parish Picnic! God bless,

Fr. McKee

P.S. Refreshments will be served in Everett Hall after the Sunday Liturgies next weekend. All are welcome!!

Exaltation of the Holy Cross Today Christ is exalted, “lifted up,”

on the cross. He is exalted for He is our salvation, our life, and our resurrection. We glory in the cross of Jesus: He is a King lifted up and crowned trium-phant upon the throne of the tree of life. The Cross is the most potent and universal symbol of the Christian faith. It has inspired both liturgical and pri-vate devotions: for example, the Sign of the Cross, which is an invocation of the Holy Trinity; the “little” Sign of the Cross on head, lips, and heart at the reading of the Gospel; praying the Stations of the Cross; and the Veneration of the Cross by the faith-ful on Good Friday. Placing a crucifix in churches and homes, in classrooms of Catholic schools and in other Catholic institutions, or wearing this image on our persons, is a constant reminder — and wit-ness — of Christ’s ultimate triumph, His victory over sin and death through His suffering and dying on the Cross.
