Due to the ongoing pandemic and to adhere to all public health and safety guidelines, we have had to adjust how we provide community wellness and group programming at CMHA Elgin-Middlesex. Our upcoming programs and workshops will be provided in a variety of ways, including in-person and virtually. Art In & Out: Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain This group will be a fun interactive group in which we apply aspects from history, nature, art engagement, and active skill building. We will learn how art can help with our mental health as well as techniques to start sketching while putting our art skills to the test. We will explore the benefits between art and mental health, by taking active practice in sketching, discussion and learning.

Assert Yourself Develop assertiveness skills as you learn to improve your communication and interpersonal relationships in a safe online environment. We will engage in group discussions, interactive activities and role-playing.

Clearing the Clutter This eight-week (virtual) support group is for those who struggle with having too much stuff.

Coffee and Conversation (Exeter) Causal conversation on various topics. This activity helps decrease isolation and helps fill connection.

Coffee Social Human connections and relatedness are essential for health and well-being. Come join us, by enjoying a cup of coffee/tea with others outdoors! This is a great opportunity for casual conversation and resource sharing with mutual

Connecting to the Moment This program will introduce participants to skills which connect us to a life worth living. Participants will engage with other group members to learn and build skills of interpersonal relations, distress tolerance and emotional regulation. These skills will be presented over the course of four 8-week sessions. Participants can register for each individual session as they are offered in this Program Guide and the next Program Guide.

Connecting to the Moment Series #1: Sept 21 - Nov 9 We will use the formal and informal skills of mindfulness to bring focus to our body and mind to enrich our experiences of the moment. Connecting to the Moment Series #2: Nov 30 - Jan18 We will use the interpersonal relationship skills to facilitate the development of trust and friendship, which will reduce the likelihood of interpersonal conflict in order to enhance healthy relationship. Note: It is encouraged to have a foundation of Mindfulness practice.

Drop-In Like It’s Hot Warm up your Wednesday with peer support! This online drop-in peer support group is a space for peer-driven conversation, mutuality of learning, and connecting with others living with mental health and/or addiction challenges.

Emotional Intelligence This 5-week online course introduces participants to emotional intelligence (otherwise known as emotional quotient or EQ). Emotional intelligence is a set of competencies required to build understanding of self and others that can be

nurtured and strengthened to help participants develop an overall sense of health and well-being and improve emotional and social functioning in both their personal and professional lives.

Feel the Beat Music is a powerful tool that can be used to create a sense of connection to ourselves and the world around us. Join us in this 90-minute virtual workshop as we explore together the impact of music on our wellbeing and sense of togetherness, and find ways to increase the presence of music in our daily lives. We will have fun and interesting group discussion, review ways to increase the presence of music in our daily life, and create a playlist together! Registration is required.

Foster Harmony ↔ Create BalanceJoin us as we learn what chaos is and why it happens. We will evaluate if chaos can be avoided, accepted, or controlled. We will take a look at any patterns that exist in the chaos of our lives today and learn new skills and strategies to Find Harmony & Create Balance in our lives today.

Friday Warriors Hey! It’s Friday! Looking for something fun to do and somewhere to meet new people!? Come check out our new group Friday Warriors. An informal social gathering where as a group we decide together what topics and activities we take part in, some of these include: sharing stories, show and tell, games, trivia, social time, mindfulness and more! A place where the only main goal is to have fun and enjoy social time with others !

Harm Reduction 101 We will explore Harm Reduction philosophies and best practices. Topics will include Overdose Prevention, Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act, safer drug use, and safer sex. Hygge: The Art of Creating Hominess You know Hygge when you feel it. Hygge has been translated as everything from the art of creating intimacy to the coziness of the soul to taking presence of soothing things’. This Denmark philosophy relates to helping people feel “grateful for the everyday” and “savour the simple pleasure” (Wiking, 2016, p. 285). The pandemic has heightened the important of ‘Hygge’ moments. Join us for this six-week program to learn more how to cultivate cosiness and contentment

Lean on Me In these unusual times, many people feel added pressure and stress. We put on a happy face and try to continue our daily activities. Sometimes, we just need to be heard in order to keep moving forward. This solution-focused support group provides a safe place to discuss our concerns and use our problem-solving skills to support each other. We are all resilient, it becomes just a little easier when we lean on each other.

Mandala Colouring Social We all need some time just to relax, but we also need some time to socialize. The Mandala Colouring Social will allow us to spend some time together virtually, while being creative and keeping calm. Participants will need their own colouring supplies. You can also engage in art or doodling, whatever activity you prefer to do! We just want to spend some time together!

Mind Over Mood: CBT This group uses a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach to treat anxiety, depression, low self-esteem or to cope better with stress. It is based on the Mind Over Mood work by Dennis Greenberger, PhD. and Christine Padesky, PhD. Each participant receives a free copy of the workbook.

Mind Over Mood: CBT (ages 16-25) This group uses a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach to treat anxiety, depression, low self-esteem or to just cope better with stress. It is based on the Mind Over Mood Workbook. This is an interactive skills group.

Mindful Hour The purpose of this group is to take time out our busy lives and take the time to learn and practice being mindful. Mindfulness is the psychological process of purposely bringing one's attention to experiences occurring in the present moment without judgment, which one develops through the practice of meditation and exercising mental wellness achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

Nature’s Masterpiece Together, let’s celebrate the natural beauty of the world around us. Each week we will search for natural materials to create artwork. Participants will be provided with ideas for inspiration each week, but you are also encouraged get creative and come up with your own original pieces! We will meet at the Harris Park picnic pavilion to create our artwork; paper, glue, scissors, and other basic materials will be supplied, and you are also welcome to bring your own supplies.

Parents Bereavement Support Group A professionally facilitated support group for parents who have lost a child to suicide. Come as often or as little as you like – there is no commitment.

The Power of Plants Join us for a 90-minute virtual workshop that explores the power of plants, no green thumb required! Throughout the group, we will discuss the connection between nature and mental health and addiction, and how indoor/outdoor gardening and interaction with the natural world can positively impact our sense of wellbeing. We will also explore different strategies we can use to help feel more grounded and connected to the plants and natural world around us.

Photowalk Challenge Join our Photowalk challenge, where each week we will explore a different park/area of our city and take pictures together. Each week will have different themes to inspire our photographs and at the end, we will collect all our photos and create a collage to show off the different perspectives and ways we all captured the themes of each week. Participants will require their own camera/phone camera to participate.

Purpose: Identifying Strength and Mastering the Skill of Presence As humans, we have a need to feel connection and a sense of purpose. Life challenges may have us feeling lost and disconnected to the things that make us feel happy. This workshop will help you develop self-awareness by identifying your greatest qualities and help you understand how to connect your behaviour to match your core values/beliefs.

RentSmart The RentSmart Certificate Course covers the following: housing priorities, applying for housing; tenant/landlord rights & responsibilities; communicating effectively; roommates & neighbours; budgeting & affordable housing; maintenance do’s & don’ts; fire, safety; pests and community resources. At the completion of the course, you will receive a RentSmart Certificate which lets landlords know you are serious about being a responsible tenant.

Styx & Stones Words can literally change your brain. Language shapes how we see the world. The words we choose and the meanings we attach to them influence our feelings, attitudes and beliefs. Our language choices have a powerful effect on how we view mental health and people living with mental health conditions. We will look at various theories,

external sources, and take part in discussion, activities, and take a look at how writing and creative writing can be a powerful coping skills for times we are feeling overwhelmed.

WRAP: Wellness Recovery Action Planning A module workshop for anyone who experiences addiction and/or mental health struggles. A Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) is an individualized system for self-monitoring and responding to mental health and/or addictions. Participants develop their own WRAP while learning recovery concepts, skills and strategies.

The Wonderful World of Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Do you like to make things with your own hands? Do you like to find creative ways to reuse or recycle things to give them new life? Are you curious about what you can create with everyday items? Join us in this 90-minute virtual workshop where we will discover together the wonderful world of Do-It-Yourself (DIY)! Learn about the value of creating things with your own hands and get inspired with different projects that you can try.

My Sisters’ Place is providing a takeaway lunch, harm reduction supplies and basic needs items. MSP will continue to operate as Outreach Services – meaning the London Coffee House family and My Sisters’ Place are still working together out of 566 Dundas Street to provide support in the safest way possible. Groups at My Sisters’ Place are currently on hold; however, a small number of participants with scheduled appointments will be welcomed into the building.
