CAMP KAUFMANN

In the following pages you will see activities available to enhance your camping experience…

•  Girls learn about the delicate eco-system of the frog pond. They also discover the life cycles of frogs and insects. This program is offered during the summer and seasonally when weather permits.

•  Coming soon! Discover a more in-depth look at pond. Study the eco-system and learn what happens when foreign species are introduced.

FROG POND

•  Girls discover the life cycles of butterflies and bees. They also learn why the butterflies are so attracted to the specific plants in the garden. This program is offered during the summer and seasonally when weather permits. Troops are welcome to visit the garden itself at any time.

•  Coming Soon!- Bird Watching- learn how to identify birds by their calls and why certain birds are attracted to the flowers in the garden.

BUTTERFLY GARDEN

•  Learn how to row a boat and catch a fish! Lake Carola is the perfect place for girls to discover the life cycles of fish, how to identify fish species and more. The lake also includes a unique hike around the perimeter. Creatures of the woods are attracted to it’s water. Even during the winter months girls can find traces of animals and learn to identify their tracks.

•  Coming Soon!-Learn how to test water and how our water compares to other water in the NYC area.

CAROLA LAKE

•  This garden is dedicated to the men and women who lost their lives on September 11th. The garden is a calming place of reflection. Troops can visit it at anytime.

•  Coming Soon! The garden will be used for various reflective activities including; creative writing, poetry and contemplating how to make our world a better place.

PEACE GARDEN

•  The Archery Range teaches girls safety, patience and skill! Archery is available to Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors. This program is available year-round weather permitting.

•  Coming Soon! We are going to provide 3 distinct levels; beginner, intermediate and competition.

ARCHERY RANGE

•  Girls learn about basic survival skills including outdoor cooking and fire building. This program is currently offered in the summer.

•  Coming Soon! We are going to provide survival skills seasonally and include more skills such as; knot tying and shelter building.

SURVIVAL SKILLS

•  Crafts have a long tradition at camp! We encourage troops to create SWAPs to bring and share with other troops. We always have a craft project available during our theme weekends and summer programs.

•  Coming Soon! We will be offering recycled and natural crafts year round. We will also have a “SWAP” station during the summer.

ARTS AND CRAFTS

•  Low Ropes allows your girls to learn team building and cooperation skills. Explore the various elements including the; Whale Watch, 3D Web, Swinging Log, Spider Web, Trust Fall, Mohawk Walk, Wild Woozy, Tire Traverse, Nitro Crossing and Acid River. Available to Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors.

LOW ROPES

•  This exciting outdoor activity will challenge your girls to believe the impossible is possible. Explore the various elements including the; flying squirrel, burma bridge, kitten crawl, pirate crossing, zipline and climbing wall. Available for Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors.

HIGH ROPES

•  Jump in and cool off! Girls enjoy our pool during summer Sleepaway and Getaway camps. For the safety of our girls, a lifeguard is always on duty when the pool is open.

SWIMMING POOL

•  There are many areas on camp to play games and sports. Weather permitting, girls can enjoy our large sports field, gaga pit, playground and basketball court year round.

GAMES AND SPORTS

•  To newcomers, camp can seem scary at night. There are lots of noises and it’s much darker than the city. Our staff are here to assure you that there is nothing to be scared of and that there is actually lots of fun to discover! Troops are welcome to hike year-round in the evening (remember closed-toe shoes, flashlights, stay to the paths and tell someone where you’re going) and our counselors also provide an exciting night-hike around the lake (pictured above) during the summer.

•  Coming Soon! We will be offering star-gazing and a sounds of the night programs year-round!

EVENING PROGRAMS

•  Camp Kaufmann’s 425 acres are filled with trails. Troops are welcome to enjoy them year round. They are all well-marked and a lot of them have informative nature signs.

•  Coming Soon! We will be offering geocaching and orienteering year-round!

HIKING THE TRAILS

•  Once the snow starts falling, Camp Kaufmann becomes a winter wonderland! Troops can enjoy sledding any time there is snow! We also have a great collaboration with Thunder Ridge! Join us for a Ski Theme Weekend and learn how to ski and hit the slopes!

•  Coming Soon! We will be offering SNOWSHOEING! to troops!
