Wax Resist PaintingYou will need:

• Wax Crayons• Drawing paper• Water based paint• Paint brushes• Water• Newspaper

1. Cover the table surface with newspaper.2. Draw a scene from the text or from the story you have written on the painting paper with the wax crayons. Press down hard so the crayon goes into the tooth of the paper. Bright or light coloured crayons work best if you are using dark paint and vice versa.3. Paint over the crayon with water paints. The crayon will resist the paint and the paint will only apply where there is no crayon.

Hints: - Avoid using brown and black to keep your painting bright and colourful. - Avoid painting colours on top of each other so your painting does not get ‘muddy’. - Use white crayon or a candle to make a mystery drawing that only appears when the paint is applied.

Rainy Day Spatter Painting

You will need:

• Newspaper• Old clothes or an art smock• Coloured pencils or crayons• Water based blue paint• Toothbrush• Paint brushes• Flat edged tool like a blunt knife• Drawing paper

1. Cover the table and floor with newspaper as the activity can be very messy. Wear old clothes or a smock.2. Draw a scene from the text or from the story you have written using the coloured pencils or crayons. 3. Dip the toothbrush in the paint and hold it at an angle close to the drawing.4. Scrape the flat edged tool towards you across the toothbrush so the paint spatters onto the drawing. Spatter just enough to make it look like it is raining.5. Use the paint brushes to make bigger raindrops by tapping the paint filled brush gently over the drawing.
