Animal traits
Adaptations
An Adaptation is how an animal lives. It adapts to its surroundings by blending in with objects like its color. For example the Arctic Wolf blends in with the snow cause the wolf is White
Species Adaptations and Individual Adaptations
A species adaptation is how the whole species adapts to their surroundings for example the whole species of Arctic Wolves blend in with the snow.
An individual adaptation is when only one animal in the species adapts differently. For example if all the arctic wolves blend in with snow while one of them hide in bushes
Camouflage, hibernation, migration, and mimicry.
Camouflage is when animals blend in with their surroundings. For example the arctic hare blends in with the snow.
Hibernation is when an animal goes underground to sleep for the winter. For example the grizzly bear goes underground to sleep for the winter.
Migration is when animals move to one place to another. For example geese fly south for the winter.
Mimicry is when an animal sounds like another animal. For example a type of caterpillar makes its head to look like a snake head.

Genetics is something that you inherit from someone your related to for example. If you have brown eyes and your dad has brown eyes you get brown eyes because your dad has the stronger gene.

Non inherited traits
A non inherited trait is something you don’t get from something.

Fossils are parts of an animal that lived millions of years ago. They tell us what kind of animal they are and what types of animals where around at that time. Fossils provide us with clues about the past with animals.
