QUESTIONS AND CLARIFICATIONS:

Requests for clarification of details on the drawings or of provisions of the specifications have been identified. The

questions with the appropriate Metropolitan responses are as follows:

(1) Question: We are certified by the L.A. Unified School District as a Small Business Enterprise (SBE). Is this

SBE Certification acceptable to Metropolitan?

Answer: Yes, the SBE certification issued by the L.A. Unified School District is acceptable to Metropolitan.

(2) Question: On fiber cable Pre-installation Test, (Section 16745, Paragraph 3.04A.2), will the use of a pigtail

and mechanical splice such a Corning Cable Systems, CamSplice Mechanical Splice, be adequate

for the “on the reel testing?”

Answer: Pigtails may be used on the pre-installation test. However, mechanical splices are not allowed to

be used as specified in Section 16745.

(3) Question: A. Is fusion splicing a firm requirement for this job?

B. Would it be possible to use the required pigtails with mechanical splice such a Corning Cable

Systems, CamSplice Mechanical Splice?

Answer: A. Yes, per Section 16745, Paragraph 3.02A.16.a, which reads: “Any allowed splicing of fiber

optic cable shall be by fusion splice only, no mechanical splices are permitted.”

B. No.

(4) Question: On Sheet E-24, the plan shows a 96-strand loose tube Single Mode cable. Due to the short length of

this cable run, can a 48-strand Single Mode and a 48 Multi-Mode be utilized to make this run? The

same type of call out is on Sheet E-10 - See Note 5, which states: “Provide a 48-strand single-mode

and 48-strand multimode fiber optic cable."

Answer: Either a 96-strand loose tube Single Mode cable or a 48-strand Single Mode and a 48 Multi-Mode

may be used on this run. Refer to changes to Sheet E-10 in this addendum.

(5) Question: On Sheet E-24, the buildings (Solids Handling Facility, Ammonia Electrical Equipment Building,

West Filter, East Filter, Vehicle Maintenance Center, MCC 13P1, and Plant Maintenance Facility)

show a new 4-strand Single Mode cable running from an existing Fiber Patch Panel to New PA

Zone Fiber Converter Module in the same building. Will a new fiber patch panel be required to be

installed on each end of the new 4-strand Single Mode Cable?

Answer: Yes. Fiber runs shall always be terminated at each end by a new fiber optic patch panel as

specified.

(6) Question: RE: Section 16745, Article 1.07, “SPARE PARTS AND TEST EQUIPMENT”: Please confirm

that all of the spare parts and test equipment listed in this section are required to be included and

furnished to Metropolitan at completion of the job.

Answer: The Contractor shall provide the test equipment and tools in accordance with the requirements of
