I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist….

september 2012

By David Kschammer

A friend of mine recently showed me a video on YouTube where a man made that statement. He explained to his listeners that he couldn’t believe that if he disassembled his high quality watch, placed it in a bag and shook it for 6 billion years that it would ever, by random shuffling, reassemble into a working timepiece.

Now, a mechanical watch has many tiny pieces that are engineered to fit together in a highly precise way. So let’s consider a simpler object that has become a popular example to illustrate the problem of working machines assembling themselves out of the environment – the simple mousetrap. In his book ‘Darwin’s Black Box’, scientist Michael Behe explains that if any part of a mousetrap is not present or suitably connected, then it must fail 100% of the time. It represents a system that is ‘irreducibly complex’. i.e. other than being fully assembled the parts individually have no purpose, and even with persistent ‘shaking’ would not be expected to miraculously construct a working mousetrap.

Now consider the spontaneous assembly out of the environment of even the most fundamental organic molecules on which life depends. You can view videos on YouTube that show some of the absolutely amazing interrelationships between intricately constructed systems of miniature machines that operate continuously in our bodies (e.g. one of my favourites is Mechanism of DNA Replication (Basic)) To use a quote from one-time atheist Fred Hoyle: 'Anyone with even a nodding acquaintance with the Rubik cube will concede the near impossibility of a solution being obtained by a blind person moving the cube faces at random. A number came to the meetings. There were 3 baptisms. One young lady was from Iran. Her name was Mona, and it was interesting to hear her talk of the great oppression back in her home country, and her parents desire for her not to return but make a new life in Australia.

Mona was very moved when she was filled with the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues. She has since returned to the Gold Coast where she is studying. The main presentation on the last Saturday was the hilarious performance, a skit on David and Goliath. Brother Yianggo, as Goliath, came out roaring to frighten the Israelites, and then lost his voice and could only produce a squeak. Even the visitors got a good laugh. Pastor Daniel and the Darwin Assembly was justifiably thanked by all for their dedication, great food, and fellowship.

Leaving the cold weather behind us enjoyed the warmth of the Darwin dry season, 28 degrees in the day, and 18 degrees at night. However, what we all really enjoyed was the great fellowship of the Darwin Assembly. Nothing was spared in making sure the Rally was a very successful event. They all worked tirelessly to make sure every event or session ran well, and nothing was left to chance.

It was also called "the South East Asian Rally", as the visitors included Pastor Colin from Singapore, Pastor William from Bali, Pastor Joseph from Manila, Pastor Teddy from Kupung (West Timor) and Pastor Ken from West Papua. One of the highlights of the rally was the induction of Pastor Herry, as the second Pastor in the Bali Assembly. He and his wife Tanti were not expecting the appointment, so it came as a surprise to them both. Needless to say that they have been supporting Pastor William, and his wife Marisa, for a number of years, and it recognised their steady commitment to the work of the Lord in Bali.

The other Pastors visiting were, Pastors John, Paul, Laurie, and myself from Adelaide. Pastor Kevin from Perth, Pastor Deane from Coober Pedy, and Pastor Chris from Townsville.

Apart from Pastor Kevin we were all accompanied by our wives. There were also visitors from Perth and Adelaide.

Sister Annie Pallet from Elizabeth did not want to miss out, and she is 82 years old. Her age did not stop her giving out leaflets, and inviting people along.

The programme included a number of presentations, and talks from all the Pastors.

The first four or five days included outreaching activities in the parks and beaches. With an abundance of visitors, from overseas and around Australia staying in Darwin at this time of the year, we were able to speak to people of many nationalities.

Hello from

Ballarat….

“I knew I had the truth….”

I had given up on religion I didn't think God would have contact with people any more. I got baptized to try whether what they were telling me was true. When I came up out of the water the first breath I took was the Holy Spirit. I spoke fluently in another language I’d never learned. I felt incredible power; I knew that the Bible was the truth.
