C A R P A R K The Administration carpark is closed each school day between 9.00am and 3.15pm, to allow our senior students more space during recess and lunch. Guests are still able to access the administration building during the day by parking in front of the mosque and walking through the mosque gates.

Each day we see many parents speeding in the car parks. As you can imagine this is extremely dangerous especially when smaller children pop out between cars or have cars stop in the middle of the driveways to let their children in/out of their cars. Please follow the direction of our staff on duty and keep in line with the speed on the school grounds at all times.

Many of our staff have also noted that parents are driving without their children restrainined in their cars. Even in the carpark, children must wear their seatbelts. Serious accidents can happen at only 5km per hour so please ensure your children are restrained correctly prior to you driving.

L U N C H E S / B O O K S / H O M E W O R K E T CWe are being inundated with parents arriving at the front office thorughout the entire day with their child’s lunch, forgotten homework, books, uniform etc. Please ensure that your child has a healthy packed lunch in their school bag and all their required items before they leave home in the morning to avoid being turned away when arriving at the Administration Office.

S T U D E N T A P P O I N T M E N T STo avoid disruption to your child’s learning it is requested that medical or other appointments for your children are made outside of school hours.

S P A R E C L O T H I N GWe have many younger students presenting to the front office due to bathroom accidents. For parents with children in Foundation and Year 1, can you please provide an extra pair of pants, underwear and socks in their school bags.

L A T E A R R I V A L S A N D E A R L Y D I S M I S S A L S We are still experiencing many students arriving late each day. School commences at 8.50am and all students are expected to arrive ontime. If you are finding heavy traffic you can leave 10 minutes earlier each day, this will ensure an early arrival.

If your child is required to be collected early due to an appointment, please advise the Administration Office so they can have your child waiting for you in the foyer. Students who fall ill during the day will be contacted by the Nursing staff for collection from the First Aid Department.

Parents are also asked to be off the school grounds by 8.45am as this poses an OH&S issue and conjestion in the Administration foyer.

V I S I T O R SAny parent, guardian or visitor must report to the Administration Office and sign in prior to entering the College grounds. This is necessary especially in the event of an emergency and also for the safety of all our staff and students.

A M e s s a g e f r o m A d m i n

S T U D E N T I D C A R D SAll students should now have their new ID cards, please ensure that your child keeps their ID card in their school bag at all times. If your child has lost their ID card or left it at home they must go to the Administration Office to organise a replacement - a $5 fee will apply.

S U N S A F E T Y I N S C H O O L SStudents are in school when the sun daily UV penetration is at its strongest and they spend approximately 8 hours per week outdoors. A healthy balance to sun exposure is important as too much UV from the sun can cause sunburn, skin damage, eye damage and skin cancer whilst too little UV from the sun can lead to vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D regulates calcium levels in the blood. It is also necessary for the development and maintenance of healthy bones, muscles and teeth.

To ensure a healthy balance between too much and too little UV, sun protection should be used from the beginning of September until the end of April or whenever the UV index level reaches 3 and above. Sun protection times are issued by the Bureau of Meteorology when the UV Index is forecast to reach 3 or above. You can get more information on UV index by looking up this link:https://www.cancer.org.au/preventing-cancer/sun-protection/uv-alert/

Always ensure that your child goes to school with a hat and a broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen to use during extended periods of outside play, like lunch breaks (when UV penetration is at its strongest) and outdoor lessons like PE or even school trips.

Ensure you act on the following SunSmart 5 recommended sun protection measures.

1 Slip on sun protective clothing that covers as much of your body as possible.

2 Slop on SPF 30 or higher broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen, at least 20 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply every two hours when outdoors or more often if perspiring or swimming.

3 Slap on a broad-brimmed hat that shades your face, neck and ears.

4 Seek shade.5 Slide on sunglasses.(SunSmart Australia 2019).

Areeb has done it again! It is with great excitement, we celebrate Areeb’s outstanding achievement in being titled the Spelling Bee Champ for the 14th Annual Wyndham City Libraries’ Spelling Bee Competition. Areeb was up against several top schools in the region with the winning word ‘Vigilante’.

As quoted by Areeb ‘I was very excited to be selected for the second time to represent my school in the spelling bee competition. Alhamdulilah I wasn’t as nervous as last year and felt very confident on stage. It was a very proud moment for myself, my parents and teachers’.

Congratulations

Y E A R 3 Finally, we have arrived at the end of Term 3. This term was all about learning with fun. We started with Art Week celebrations followed by Hajj and Masjid Al Aqsa Week. Year 3 students had an incursion about Natural Disasters where they created tornados and fake snow.

Wait, it’s not over yet. Towards the end of Term 3, our students took an active part in making the Literacy & Numeracy Week another big success. All the students came dressed in their favourite book characters for Book Week’s character parade.

In addition, students also got a chance to exhibit their sports skills in the volleyball matches organised by our Sports Department. It was a proud moment seeing our students show case their abilities and sportsmanship during the games.

That’s all from Year 3 for now. We wish everyone a restful and a safe Holiday!

G R A D E 4 As another Term 3 passes us by we would like to acknowledge the amazing efforts of our students and staff team. We have made many incredible memories such as Book Character dress up where we got to meet our favourite book characters and live out the most enthralling tales. Another highlight of the term was the Science incursion and the insightful science behind weathering and erosion where the students got to unleash their inner scientist.

The interclass volleyball competition proved to us that 4I have some strong athlete talents to claim the next Olympic gold medals. Numeracy and Literacy Week exemplified the Mathletic abilities of our future Einsteins. Whether it be the upholding of academic integrity and excellence or unleashing creativity we are extremely pleased and encouraged by our students’ achievements. Let us maintain momentum as we continue full steam ahead into the final term of the year.

Y E A R 5Year 5 students had a blast in the months of August and September as they competed in Football tournament (for boys) and Basketball tournament (for girls) these past weeks.

All students participated in these friendly tournaments that focus on fun and enjoyment rather than competition and promote equal treatment and focus on fun and participation regardless of skill level and ability.

Literacy and Numeracy Week was celebrated in Week 10. Teachers and students dressed up according to their chosen book character as they paraded with their wonderful costumes to the Senior Multi-Purpose Hall.

During this week, students were encouraged to write a story using 200 words in the writing activity with the theme, ‘Writing is my Secret Power’.

In numeracy activities, Year 3- 6 students move around eight math stations using stimulating materials and playing exciting games to reinforce the maths concepts. These were student-led games organised by our SEEP students and the SEEP Department. The games were varied to suit the age and ability level of the students.

As our holidays are upon us, we look forward to what term 4 has in store for us!

The Primary Islamic Department has had a most exciting and busy term 3 alhamdulilah!

Earlier this term, our students were involved in a number of Al-Aqsa activities to reinforce the importance of this Holy Masjid that holds a special place in all of our hearts. The ceremonies started with a beautiful recitation by Hifz student Ibrahim from Surat Al-Isra and was then followed by some touching and informative speeches by Mr Hallak and Sh Warsama.

What is Religion Week without the most entertaining competition of all? Students in each grade played in the Kahoot Quiz to test their knowledge of Masjid Al-Aqsa as well as what they have been learning in their Religion classes during the course of the year. It was an intense game as they battled it out with as much brain (and finger!) power to answer the fastest they could on the Ipads! A massive congratulations to our winning classes that came in first place: 3H, 4E, 5E and 6A!

We ask you to make Du’a to protect our beloved Al-Aqsa and all our struggling brothers and sisters around the globe. May Allah ease their way and protect all of our holy cities. Ameen.

Students performance tasks this term were very impressive with students showing off their talent and creative work. Every term students from Grade 2-6 complete assessments prior to the end of term to showcase their knowledge and skills in Arabic and Religion. Teachers were exceptionally pleased by our student’s hard work and the effort that went into completing them.

To revise the concepts and prepare for Term 3, students will have Arabic and Religion holiday homework sent with them in Week 10. These

activities should not take too much of our students time but rather brush up on their Arabic language skills and Islamic knowledge. This also includes revising learnt surahs and reading the Quran with Tajweed.

We wish you all a joyful and happy holiday and look forward to seeing our dear students, nice and fresh next term, inshaAllah.

Girls Qiyaam NightAs part of the Extra Curricular Department, the first ever Qiyaam Night was held at Al-Taqwa Masjid for our senior girls. The purpose of this special event was to help the girls strengthen their connections with Allah (SWT) as well as their bond between peers and teachers. Our girls felt very blessed to have Olga Ramahi and Lucy Verwey impart their knowledge followed by a Q&A session.

The highlight of the night was when our respected Mr Hallak shared some wisdom on the importance of females seeking education and helping to raise a strong ummah.

The night consisted of various spiritual activities and opportunities for the girls to participate in and benefit from. We also enjoyed a spread of delicious goodies to keep us going through the night, which ended at 11pm. InshaAllah in future, we look forward to extending the hours of our Qiyaam night and provide opportunities for more students to attend.

Self Defence WorkshopAs part of the Extra Curricular Department, a self defence workshop was organised for our VCE girls. The aim of the workshop was to provide our students with the opportunity to learn basic self-defence techniques and for them to have an opportunity to gain skills to allow them to improve their self esteem and gain confidence in unfamiliar

situations.

This session was voluntarily run by Dana Zakoulouta who currently holds a black belt in Taekwondo. She is also a final year pharmacy student and was able to share her experiences as a successful woman who is reaching new heights in the muslim community, MashaAllah.

Our VCE students appreciated the opportunity they were given and are very excited at the prospect of future sessions being held on campus, InshaAllah.

Table Tennis Our Senior girls took part in the Table Tennis Tournament this term. They demonstrated excellent efforts and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Our semi-final consisted of Safa Barakat (Year 10) & Faduma Mahamed (Year 12). Both students showed great determination and outstanding skills during this game. Our winner for the tournament was Safa Barakat in 10A. Well done and keep up the great work!

ATCino Making Headlines ATCino has made it into the Wyndham Star Weekly with the VCAL initiative.

To date the program has been progressing exceptionally well. Staff and students have been able to purchase their hot beverages before school, during recess and during lunchtime breaks.

The community also have the opportunity to have their tastebuds tantalised with cappucinos, lattes and hot chocolates (just to name a few) following Jummah prayers on Fridays.

Come and support our students on Friday!

VCAL students at Al-Taqwa College in Truganina have launched a mobile café.The student-run café, called ATCino, has been open for business in the morning before classes and during recess. It’s also operating on Friday afternoons, after Islamic prayers, in front of the Al-Taqwa Mosque. The college’s VCAL co-ordinator Stefanos Chrisoulis said the café project was designed to give students an insight into running a business, including quality control and costs and profits. “The project is a long-term project and is also aimed at giving our teachers and senior students what they like – a hot beverage!” he said. “We

have spent quite a bit to fund the project, and are involving all the VCAL students. “This will follow on to next year, where the year 12 students will do a barista course before working in the café stall. “Any surplus funds will be pumped back into the school for other projects.”Mr Chrisoulis said credit needed to be given to the college’s assistant head of VCAL, Miss Urooj Shah, for facilitating the project, and the other staff involved, including Al-Taqwa’s vice principal Mohammad Hallak, who is also a barista.
