To use the clone stamp tool:

1. Select the clone stamp tool, and do the following in the options bar: • Choose a brush and set brush options. • Specify a blending mode, opacity, and flow. • Determine how you want to align the sampled pixels. If you select

Aligned, you can release the mouse button without losing the current sampling point. As a result, the sampled pixels are applied continuously, no matter how many times you stop and resume painting. If you deselect Aligned, the sampled pixels are applied from the initial sampling point each time you stop and resume painting.

• Select Use All Layers to sample data from all visible layers; deselect Use All Layers to sample only from the active layer.

2. Set the sampling point by positioning the pointer in any open image and Alt-clicking.

3. Drag in the image.

To use the healing brush tool:

1. Select the healing brush tool. 2. Click the brush sample in the options bar and set brush options in the pop-

Adode Photoshop: Lesson 3, 6 and 7 How to replace colours in an object?

1. Select the marquee tool and draw a selection border around the object.

2. Then, choose Image > Adjustment > Change colour. The replace colour window will pop up. You will see three eyedropper tools.

3. Using the first eye dropper, click anywhere on the area with that colour. 4. Use the second eye dropper; select the other area of the image. 5. You can adjust the tolerance by dragging the fuzziness slider. 6. In the replacement area, you will see the hue slider, saturation slider and lightness

slider. Notice that hue is colour, saturation is the purity of the colour and lightness is how much white or black is in the image.

7. You can drag these three sliders and so that you can see the result in the colour box.

8. If you satisfied, click OK to apply the changes. How to use the sponge tool?

1. Select the sponge tool hidden under the dodge tool. 2. In the tools option bar, you can select the setting. 3. Drag the sponge at the area you want. 4. If you choose the mode desaturate, the more desaturated the colour becomes and

vice versa. 5. Save your work.

In lesson 6, you apply a filter effect on the background. How to apply a filter effect?

1. Select the background on the layer palette. 2. Choose select and inverse. 3. Click Select > Filter > Artistic > Colour pencil. 4. You can change the pencil width, stroke pressure and paper brightness as you

satisfies. 5. Click OK to apply the changes.

How to repair areas with Clone stamp tool?

1. Select the clone stamp tool. 2. Hold the Alt key and select the area you want. 3. Click the area you want to change and you will see the changes.

a) How to create a quick mask for the lesson 6? Select the magic wand tool. Choose a tolerance of 12 in the tolerance text box. Click anywhere in the white area of the egret. Hold down shift key to add the white area which was not selected earlier on.

Then, click the Quick Mask Button in the tool box. Lastly, save your work.

b) How to repair a chosen area in lesson 7(a)? Select a Clone Stamp Tool in the tool box. Choose the brush pop-up Palette with a soft edge in a medium size. Move the Clone Stamp Tool in the middle of the image. Then, press your Alt key. Drag your tool on the selected area until the hold area was fill by the water image. Lastly, save your file.

c) What is the function of the healing brush in lesson 7(b)?

Select the area written with “DJ” by Zoom In the selected area so that you can see clearly. Then, select the Healing Brush Tool in the tool bar. Drag the slider of the brush in the selected area. Hold down your Alt key and click it in a short distance above the scratched area. Then, save your work.

d) What is the function of the Patch tool?

Right click on the Healing Brush tool, then choose Patch tool. Drag the patch tool on the holes areas. Again drag the selected area to an unblemished area around the rock. Repeat the step 1 to step 3 if there are still holes left in the picture. Lastly, save your file.

How to create a ‘gradient’: • Click at the ‘gradient tool’ • Draw a vertical line- down to top • Load the gradient layer by dragging it to the small circle at the bottom of the

channel window • At the channel window, go to RGB • Go back to layers window • Click at the background, hit ‘delete’

1. To select an object or target image (the egret): • Select magic wand→ adjust the tolerance(the lower the precise you will be

in selecting the area • Select the most area of the object→ edit in standard mode • Select brush tool→ brush at the areas of the object that are not selected

yet. • Go to channels→ quick mask→ right hand click→ duplicate the layer →

rename it→ delete the quick mask 2. To reselect the area:

• At the layer→ click at the RGB→ drag the egret background layer to the edit in standard mode tool below the box.

3. To give effect at the background (area where the egret is excepted):

• Go to filter→ artistic→ choose color pencil→ ok

4. To cut the area of foxtail: • Open foxtail window→ filter→ extract→ small brush size (about 5)→

highlight is green→ fill is blue→ draw lines at your target area→ fill color→ preview→ ok

• Move the file at the background window→ select move tool→ drag and drop it

5. To scale the image:

• Go to edit→ transform→ scale • Adjust the opacity too.

6. Use the patch tool: • To make people look younger • Select the spot that you do not want→ and move the area to another area

like what you wish it to be.

2. Choose brush tools and adjust the size of the brush. 3. Draw lines using the brush to select the selected area. 4. Use paint bucket to paint the bounded area. 5. Click preview to view the result. 6. If you are satisfied with the result, click ok. CONTRIBUTOR: SARAH BINTI SAIDON ID: 2006842087 LGB3A WEEK 5 6th JULY , 2007 ADOBE PHOTOSHOP – LESSON 6 * Tolerance: the lower the tolerance, the more precise it is to pick a certain tone level (if you select a white object, the magic wand will capture every inch of white area) How to ‘mask’ your picture and editing it (a quick way of selecting your image):

• On the Tools Window, click on the icon which states “Edit in Quick Mask Mode” at the bottom part of the window. Your working area will turn pink for the background but the image you have selected with the magic wand remains untouched.

• You must toggle the foreground and background colour icons (click the toggled arrow).

• Then, click on the Brush tool, choose your preferred brush size, leave the mode to normal and opacity and flow, both 100%.

• Use the Brush tool to edit your image. Should you have accidentally made a mistake, simply toggle the foreground and background colour to ‘erase’ your mess.

Identifying the Channels:

• On the Layers window, click on the Channel tab, there will be four channels labeled RGB, Red, Green and Blue respectively. Below it will be the Quick Mask channel.

• Duplicate the Quick Mask channel and rename it according to your image (e.g. “Egret”)

• Next, delete the original channel which is the Quick Mask channel. When you click on the renamed channel, a silhouette of your image with a black background will appear.

How to load a channel:

• Simply drag a selected channel into the load icon which is situated at the bottom of the tab

• Click the RGB channel (which will highlight Red, Green and Blue layers altogether).

• Then, click on Layer tab. Your image (e.g. the egret) will have shimmering lights all over it.

How to create an effect to your background picture:

• Double-click on your shimmering image, click Select Inverse. • On the toolbar, click Filter→ Artistic → Coloured Pencil • Choose your desired effect by adjusting the pencil width, stroke pressure and

brightness. • Besides Coloured Pencil, you could also choose other effects.

‘FOXTAIL’ How to insert a delicate image:

• Open the “Foxtail” file. • Click Filter → Extract • A window will appear with the foxtail image. Choose a suitable brush size,

highlight and fill. • Use the brush to outline the foxtail. You could also use the eraser icon to erase

any mess. Next, fill in colour using the paint icon on the top left-hand corner. • Click Preview. A window with only the foxtail image and a checkerboard

background will appear. Click OK if you’re happy with the image. • If you want to redo your image, click Cancel, and then click Filter → Extract and

start all over. How to create a gradient using the Channels tab:

• Create a new channel, it will appear as Alpha1, rename it “Gradient”. • Use the gradient tool → hold down Shift key → draw a gradient line • Load the “Gradient” channel → click RGB channel → go to Layer tab • Click on “Background” layer → click Delete • You will finally get a colour gradient effect that you just created in Channel tab.

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP – LESSON 7 LESSON 7(B) How to use the Healing Brush tool

• Similar to Clone Stamp tool, start by sampling an area by clicking on it once. • Brush on selected area you want to touch-up.

How to use the Patch tool

• This tool is useful to remove unwanted area in a picture. • Like a Lasso tool, you select an area and then you drag it elsewhere in the picture. • The unwanted area will disappear.

1. In the toolbox, select Healing Brush Tool (J)

2. On the image, while pressing the Alt key, click once at the selected area that you

want to copy.

3. Use the mouse and drag the cursor to the area that you want to paste by holding

the left click. The area that you dragged will change to the selected area you have

chose.

4. Go back again to the toolbox and right click at the Healing Brush Tool (J). Select

Patch Tool (J).

5. By using the cursor, make a circle to the selected area that you want to varnish.

6. Drag the circle to the better area that you want it to be. The circled area will

change exactly the same with the area you dragged to.

1) Open layer file and choose Lesson 6 2) First focus on the Egret picture and choose magic wand. Choose the appropriate

tolerance then click on the tool bar ‘Brush tool’ 3) next click on the tool bar ‘Brush tool’ using the brush tool highlight on the egret 4) On the channel bar, click on Quick Mask then right click on Quick Mask layer

choose duplicate channel- rename the new channel as ‘Egret’. 5) Delete the Quick Mask layer. 6) Next we are going to crop the ‘Foxtail’ picture and put it in together with the

Egret. 7) Open the picture and click on filter on a new box, use the highlighter to highlight

the outer corner of the foxtail. Then click on ‘Fill tool’ then click ‘ok’ 8) Next, we are going to do the same extract process with ‘weeds’ picture like we

did for ‘foxtail’ 9) For the background picture, select Inverse 10) Then, click on ‘Filter’ then choose ‘Artistic’ under it has many masking features

but to get the same as the end result, choose ‘Colored Pencil’

A) Creating a quick mask 1. SELECT THE MAGIC Wand Tool. 2. Tool options bar > Tolerance=12 3. Click anywhere in the white area. 4. Hold down SHIFT > select on unselected area to add in the selection. 5. Select Quick mask mode button (to protect unselected area).

B) Editing a quick mask

1. Make Foreground color WHITE by selecting Switch Foreground & Background Colors icon.

2. Zoom 3. Select Brush Tool > Size=13, Mode=Normal. 4. Begin painting over the red areas.

Painting with WHITE erases the mask, increasing selected areas Painting with BLACK adds to the mask, decreasing selected areas

C) Save selection as a mask

1. With Egret selection active (on standard mode) >click save selection as Channel button at the bottom pf the channel palette.

2. Select > Deselect.

D) Editing mask 1. Select the egret channel > hide RGB channels; erase any black/grey fleck

within its body. 2. Toolbox > Brush tool > white appears in Foreground colours Swatch. 3. Brushes palette > select small brush size (3 px – 5 px) > paint. 4. Dock the brushes palette by dragging the tab into the palette well. 5. File > save.

E) Loading a mask as a selection & applying an adjustment.

1. In the channel palette, click RGB preview channel (display the entire image) > hide Egret channel.

2. Select > Load selection. OK. 3. Select background layer > adjust the tonal balance of the egret. 4. Image > adjustment > auto levels (automatically adjust the tonal balance

of the colors within the selection) 5. Edit > Undo, Edit > redo (to compare the different) 6. Select > deselect. 7. File > save.

F) Extracting an image

1. File > open foxtail.psd 2. Filter > Extract. 3. Select Edge Highlighter tool. 4. Brush size option (drag slider 20 px). 5. Using Edge Highlighter tool, drag all the way of the stem and leaf (form

outline) 6. Fill tool > fill in the outline. 7. Preview.

G) Adding extracted image as layer

1. Move tool > drag image to the right side of the Egret image ( foxtail as a new layer)

2. Close foxtail image window without saving. 3. Zoom out. 4. Edit > transform > scale – resize. 5. Select foxtail layer > decrease Opacity in the layer palette to 70%. 6. File > save.

H) Extracting by forcing the foreground 1. File > open weeds 2. Filter > Extract. 3. Select the Force Foreground check box. 4. Eyedropper tool > click light area of the seeds to make sample. 5. Select Edge Highlight tool > set brush size at 20-30. 6. Highlight the wispy tops of the weeds by dragging the tool, then highlight

the top third of the weeds – solid selection. 7. Display option > black matte 8. Click preview button 9. OK.

I) Add the force foreground extraction as another layer. J) Applying a filter effect to a masked layer (refer F)

1. Layer palette > background 2. Channels palette > drag Egret channel to the load channel button.

Experiment with the sliders to evaluate the changes before applying the filter.

3. OK. 4. Select > deselect. 5. Layer > Flatten image. 6. File > save.

K) Creating a gradient mask 1. Channels palette > create new channel (click new channel button) 2. Rename alpha 1 with Gradient. 3. Select gradient tool. 4. Choose black white gradient. 5. Hold down SHIFT (keep vertical) and drag down.

L) Apply effects using gradient mask

1. Check RGB channel > hide Gradient channel. 2. Reselect Gradient channel. 3. Drag Gradient channel to the Load Channel as Selected Button. Current

background colour is WHITE. 4. Select > deselect. 5. File > save.

Lesson 7 Clone Stamp Tool – repair areas.

• remove unwanted objects from image • fill in missing areas in photograph scanned from damages originals.

1. Select Clone stamp tool. 2. In tool options bar > open brush pop-up palette > select a medium sized brush

(21) 3. Make sure that Aligned option is selected. 4. Clone Stamp pointer > at the center of the image > hold down ALT, click, release 5. Drag the pointer from the top edge of the torn corner > drag the tool over >

reproducing as you drag. 6. Release, start pointing to another missing area, drag. 7. File > save.

Pattern Stamp Tool – remove the boat and its wake from the upper areas.

1. Select rectangular marquee tool. 2. Drag to select area of the water (sample). 3. Filter > pattern maker. 4. Click Use Image Size button (under Tile Generation). 5. Click Generate. 6. Under the History > click Saves Preset Pattern button. 7. Name as Water. 8. In the pattern maker dialog box, click cancel.

Using the Healing Brush to remove flaws.

1. Open 07B_start. 2. Zoom tool > click on DJ. 3. Healing brush (in the toolbox). 4. Diameter value 10px in Brush option, setting default (mode=normal, source

option=sample, aligned checked). 5. Hold down ALT. Click above the initial as sample. 6. Paint. 7. Zoom out. 8. File > save.

• Patch tool – to touchups in areas that are not uniform in color and texture. • Use patch tool – select the area by make the circle – and drag it into perfect area, • All the messy will disappear.
