The desert and the parched land will exult;

the steppe will rejoice and bloom.

They will bloom with abundant flowers,

and rejoice with joyful song.

The glory of Lebanon will be given to them,

the splendor of Carmel and Sharon;

they will see the glory of the LORD,

the splendor of our God.

Strengthen the hands that are feeble,

make firm the knees that are weak,

say to those whose hearts are frightened:

Be strong, fear not!

Here is your God,

he comes with vindication;

GOSPEL MT 11: 2-11

When John the Baptist heard in prison of the works of the

Christ, he sent his disciples to Jesus with this question,

"Are you the one who is to come,

or should we look for another?"

Jesus said to them in reply,

"Go and tell John what you hear and see:

the blind regain their sight,

the lame walk,

lepers are cleansed,

the deaf hear,

the dead are raised,

and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them.

And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me."

As they were going off,

Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John,

"What did you go out to the desert to see?

A reed swayed by the wind?

Then what did you go out to see?

Someone dressed in fine clothing?

Those who wear fine clothing are in royal palaces.

Then why did you go out? To see a prophet?

Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

This is the one about whom it is written:

Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you;

he will prepare your way before you.

Amen, I say to you,

among those born of women

there has been none greater than John the Baptist;

yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he."

St. Vincent de Paul Society

The Society feeds people in need twice a week. The line of people at the door of the Cronin Center has been growing. Your dona-

tions of non-perishable foods is greatly appreciated. You can put your food items in the large wicker baskets in the foyer.

St. Vincent’s can buy perishable foods from the food bank at a very small cost. That is how your monetary donations are used.

Monetary contributions can be made by cash or checks payable to St. Vincent de Paul. Put the donation in a

separate envelope, write St. Vincent de Paul on the envelope and drop it in the parish collection basket on Sundays.

Each year the Liturgy Committee has a Christmas tree in

the foyer of the Church with ornaments remembering

our loved ones who have gone before us.

We would like to offer these ornaments once again this

year. Your donation for these remembrances helps

decorate our altar for Christmas.

"flower offering" envelopes.

These may be placed in the collection basket or brought

to the parish office by Friday, December 20.

PRIMERA LECTURA Is 35, 1-6A, 10

Esto dice el Señor:

"Regocíjate, yermo sediento.

Que se alegre el desierto y se cubra de flores,

que florezca como un campo de lirios,

que se alegre y dé gritos de júbilo,

porque le será dada la gloria del Líbano,

el esplendor del Carmelo y del Sarón.

Ellos verán la gloria del Señor,

el esplendor de nuestro Dios.

Fortalezcan las manos cansadas,

afiancen las rodillas vacilantes.

Digan a los de corazón apocado:

'¡Ánimo! No teman.

He aquí que su Dios,

vengador y justiciero,

viene ya para salvarlos'.

Se iluminarán entonces los ojos de los ciegos

y los oídos de los sordos se abrirán.

SEGUNDA LECTURA SANT 5, 7-10

Hermanos: Sean pacientes hasta la venida del Señor. Vean cómo

el labrador, con la esperanza de los frutos preciosos de la tierra,

aguarda pacientemente las lluvias tempraneras y las tardías.

Aguarden también ustedes con paciencia y mantengan firme el

ánimo, porque la venida del Señor está cerca.

No murmuren, hermanos, los unos de los otros, para que el día

del juicio no sean condenados. Miren que el juez ya está a la

puerta. Tomen como ejemplo de paciencia en el sufrimiento a

los profetas, los cuales hablaron en nombre del Señor.

EVANGELIO MT 11, 2-11

En aquel tiempo, Juan se encontraba en la cárcel, y habiendo oído

hablar de las obras de Cristo, le mandó preguntar por medio de dos

discípulos:

"¿Eres tú el que ha de venir o tenemos que esperar a otro?"

Jesús les respondió: "Vayan a contar a Juan lo que están viendo y

oyendo: los ciegos ven, los cojos andan, los leprosos quedan

limpios de la lepra, los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan y a los

pobres se les anuncia el Evangelio. Dichoso aquel que no se sienta

defraudado por mí".

Cuando se fueron los discípulos, Jesús se puso a hablar a la gente

acerca de Juan:

"¿Qué fueron ustedes a ver en el desierto? ¿Una caña sacudida por

el viento? No. Pues entonces, ¿qué fueron a ver? ¿A un hombre

lujosamente vestido? No, ya que los que visten con lujo habitan en

los palacios. ¿A qué fueron, pues? ¿A ver a un profeta? Sí, yo se lo

aseguro; y a uno que es todavía más que profeta. Porque de él está

escrito:

He aquí que yo envío a mi mensajero para que vaya delante de ti

y te prepare el camino.

Yo les aseguro que no ha surgido entre los hijos de una mujer

ninguno más grande que Juan el Bautista. Sin embargo, el más

pequeño en el Reino de los cielos, es todavía más grande que él".

Navidad en el vestíbulo de la Iglesia con

decoraciones recordando a nuestros seres

queridos que se han ido antes que nosotros.

Nos gustaría ofrecer estas decoraciones una vez más.

Su donación para estos recuerdos ayudara a

decorar nuestro altar para la Navidad.

FEBRUARY, 2020 BY SENDING A DONATION TO MDS FAITH FORMATION:

My name is Itzel Rubio-Jimenez, I’m a senior at North Salinas High School. I

have been volunteering in the Children’s Faith Formation program for the past

three years and I have served as a teacher’s aide in multiple classes.

This year I was given the amazing opportunity to teach a class of second graders

to prepare them for First Communion. Being able to share the faith with my stu-

dents is such a great honor and a wonderful experience. I am able to help my

students find their faith, while also growing in my own faith. Earlier this year I was

given the opportunity to attend Youth Day 2019 in L.A., which is a wonderful expe-

rience for teens in high school. Throughout the days, teens from

different states come together to celebrate God and the love of His people. The

environment found at Youth Day was wonderful.

People were laughing, hugging, and everyone was

coming together as one. I was able to learn a lot

through the workshops while also bonding with my

peers from the Faith Formation for Teens. I look for-

ward to attending Youth Day 2020 and then passing

my knowledge to the younger ones.

Mi nombre es Itzel Rubio-Jiménez, soy estudiante

de último año en North Salinas High School. He sido

voluntario en el programa de Formación de Fe para Niños durante los últimos tres

años y he servido como ayudante de maestro en varias clases.

Este año tuve la increíble oportunidad de enseñar a una clase de alumnos de

segundo grado a prepararlos para la Primera Comunión. Poder compartir la fe con

mis alumnos es un gran honor y una experiencia maravillosa. Puedo ayudar a mis

alumnos a encontrar su fe, al mismo tiempo que crezco en mi propia fe. A

principios de este año, tuve la oportunidad de asistir al Día de la Juventud 2019 en

Los Ángeles, que es una experiencia maravillosa para los adolescentes en la

escuela secundaria. A lo largo de los días, los adolescentes de

diferentes estados se unen para celebrar a Dios y el amor de su pueblo. El

ambiente encontrado en el Día de la Juventud fue maravilloso. La gente se reía,

se abrazaba, y todos se unían como uno. Pude aprender mucho a través de los

talleres al tiempo que me unía a mis compañeros de la Formación de Fe para

Adolescentes. Espero con ansias asistir al Día de la Juventud 2020 y luego

transmitir mi conocimiento a los más jóvenes.
