ADSM Asseco Demand Side Management.

Asseco Demand Side Management (ADSM) is a solution that provides support in adjusting electricity consumption

to the needs and capabilities of the power system. The system enables remote control of energy consumption of

clients’ smart devices behind the meter. By regulating energy demand (increase or decrease), it improves the efficiency

of network management. With the consent of the recipient, the ADSM system controls the client’s energy load and

offers the possibility to “softly” limit some of the functionalities of end devices. This solution is possible thanks to the

use of IoT control protocols and smart building and industry automation systems. The system also enables immediate

response to the changing market situation, network constraints and other phenomena occurring in the power grid.

Key benefits.

• reduces the costs of system balancing

• supports energy efficiency

• prevents power system blackouts

• effectively implements processes related to the regu-

lation of energy consumption

• ensures continuity of supply and maintaining energy

balance

• facilitates elimination of overloads in the distribution

system

• supports efficient use of assets and reduces infra-

structure investment costs

ADSM Server

The application is responsible for commercial and tech-

nical support of the DSR service, including monitoring

energy consumption, reducing demand and communi-

cating with control devices.

ADSM Client

This mobile application is dedicated to the end reci-

pients of energy. It is intended for defining response

triggers, the offered regulation range and providing in-

cident alerts (load in peak periods). It also allows com-

munication with the main system.

The ADSM system consists of two applications:

Main processes implemented by ADSM.DSM processes can be divided into three areas:

• Commercial — account management and communication with clients, contracts, devices and billing processes

• Technical — load balancing processes, communication with devices

• Executive — controlling and monitoring of devices

Controlling receiving devices

Communication and control support

The system supports communication and control functionalities by means of various protocols for controlling end

devices, such as:

• end devices located on premises with AMI metering

installed

• power management systems for HVAC circuits using

building automation

• systems developed by companies providing energy

efficiency improvement services (ESCO)

• large load control systems with the use of industrial

automation

• generation control systems

• energy storage systems

Smoothing peak loads in the power grid

• identification and modeling of distributed resources

with load control capabilities

• the models are used to determine DSR (demand side

response) events

• aimed at achieving the goal of demand reduction

• registration of customer data along with their

resources dedicated to the implementation of DSR

programs

Functionalities. The ADSM system has a modular structure and includes the following functionalities:

Electricity demand management

The open system architecture enables to define various models of demand regulation, control algorithms, as well as

interaction with many types of devices. It also allows the client to extend the functionalities.

Potential objects subject to electricity demand management include:

• office buildings

• department stores/shopping malls

• charging stations for electric vehicles

• residential buildings

• industrial plants, such as: refrigeration, food and beve-

rage, cement, paper, steel, and petrochemical sec-

tors, as well as glassworks, water treatment facilities

and gas production companies

• keeping a register of DSR contracts

• management of a set of contract templates

• determination of required changes in consumption vol-

umes (reduction or increase) and DSR signal schedule

• negotiating the scope of change with the client

• determination of control signals

• sending and archiving DSR events

• price determination for tariff programs

The system is dedicated to:

• Coordinators of Energy Clusters

• Distribution System Operators

• Energy suppliers

• DSR aggregators

• Energy Saving Companies (ESCO)

• Flexibility operators

• verification of service delivery based on measure-

ment data and planned schedules

• collection of necessary measurement data to verify

demand reduction and support for billing

• collection of process data (e.g. temperature in

air-conditioned rooms) to verify the adjustments

and the possibility of obtaining data for modeling

purposes

ADSMhelps in building an emission free

community and supports control

of digitalized energy services.

• determination of billing according to measurement

data, DSR and energy contracts

• determination of adjustment of energy bills as a

reward for demand reduction

• analysis of profitability of the DSR service

• communication with clients’ control devices

• management of user accounts and event logs
