HABITS OF HAPPINESS: STUDY OF PHILIPPIANS September 21 - October 12

Philippians uses the word “joy” or “rejoice” every few paragraphs, but the joy it describes doesn’t vanish when faced with challenges. Paul wrote this letter to the community of faith in Philippi from prison. He encourages his readers that even in the midst of challenges, we are not alone. Whether we are in joy or sorrow, pleasure or pain, we in Christian community do not rejoice in private or suffer alone. It is in Christian community that we are reminded of God’s ongoing work and promise, through Christ’s death and resurrection, that provides us with the ability to rejoice despite our circum-stances.

SUNDAY MORNING STUDIES 9:45 AM in Room 120

ABUNDANT JOY, OVERFLOWING GENEROSITY October 26 - November 16

A portion of Paul’s second letter to the Christian com-munity in Corinth serves as the foundation for four bib-lical studies. Each is intended to amplify the overall theme of “Abundant Joy, Overflowing Generosity.” Week One: Granted by the Grace of God Week Two: Free to Give Week Three: Given First to the Lord Week Four: Excellence in Giving

YOU SHALL HAVE A SONG: AN ADVENT STUDY November 23 - December 14

God promises, “You shall have a song” (Isaiah 30:29) even when things look the most bleak and hopeless. This study explores four songs from the Bible: God’s New Song in Psalm 96, Song of Light in Isaiah 42:1-9, Mary’s Song (Luke 1:46-55) and the Servant Song Philippians 2:5-11. Let the lyrics of these and other songs of faith bubble up in our lives in praise of God’s amazing work of creating, renewing and saving.

Who is The Marriage Course for? The Marriage Course is perfect for any married couple, including those who are: • Looking to enhance their marriage • In the first five years of marriage • Struggling with issues • At a challenging stage (i.e. new baby, career change, empty nest) What Should You Expect? During seven evenings spent together, couples talk about important issues such as: • Recognizing each other's needs • Relating to parents and in-laws • Learning how to communicate • Healing past hurt • How to make each other feel loved • Resolving conflict • Making time for and having fun with each other • Good sex Each evening begins with a candlelit meal. Then a video presentation, fol-lowed by the chance to talk about the topic together as a couple. The setting is welcoming, relaxed, and un-threatening. Privacy as a couple is always respected. While based on Christian principals, the course is help-ful for any couple with or without a Christian faith or background. Please register by September 28.

HABITS OF HAPPINESS: The Gift of Imperfection Letting Go of Who You Think You’re

Supposed to be and Embrace Who You Are

October 5 - November 23

Cost: $15 for materials

Wholehearted living is about engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness. It means cultivating courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, “no matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough – I am a Child of God.” Wholehearted living directly impacts our daily lives with our families, friends, work, and our own happiness. Our study is guided by scripture, video clips and Brené Brown’s book, The Gift of Imperfec-tion. We will spend time together around practical ways to live lives as imperfect but beloved Children of God. We will engage in these practices together—

• Letting Go of What People Think • Letting Go of Perfectionism • Cultivating Gratitude and Joy • Cultivating Trusting Faith • Letting Go of Comparison • Cultivating Play and Rest – Letting Go

of Exhaustion as a Status Symbol • Cultivating Meaningful Work • Letting Go of Self-Doubt and

“Supposed To”

Please register by September 28.

January 18 - March 8

Meal served at 6:00pm (free-will offering) Study begins at 6:30pm and ends around 8:30pm. Cost: $15 for materials

We have lost loved ones. We have lost pets. Some of us have suffered from a trauma that has torn our definition of life from us. There are those who have been given a diagnosis of a physical or mental illness that has taken away our dreams and identity. Some of us have lost jobs, homes or other things of value. Some losses are hard to define. But there is one truth we can be sure of, we are not alone. This course is a 10-week journey through grief and loss. Through the use of artwork, poetry and other mediums we will put words and images to our experiences. We will look at the Psalms to reconnect us to God and God’s people who grieve with us. Grief is a journey from sorrow to joy. When we walk through it together we can support one another. Topics Include:

• Life Together

• Trauma of Loss

• Experiencing the Loss

• Recognizing the Reality of Loss

• Experiencing the Emotion of Loss

• Expressing the Emotion of Loss

• Reinvesting in Life

• Making New Meaning

• Stepping Into Life Anew Please register by January 11.
