2 Prerequisites

Local administration rights.

Installation files on a local drive.

If needed, the with Adveon interfacing CAM software, already installed. Currently supported:

o Edgecam 2014R2

Before running the installer, the location of the ‘Edgecam Toolstore’ must already be defined, else

the installation of the ‘Edgecam Gateway’ will fail. The location of the Toolstore is determined the

first time you start Edgecam after Edgecam installation. So unless you’ve freshly installed Edgecam

this won’t be an issue.

All other prerequisites needed by the Adveon application are included in the installation package. These are:

o .NET Framework 4.5

o MS Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package

o MS SQL Server Express 2008 R2 SP2

o MS Report Viewer 2012 Runtime

Note:

The standard installation mode cannot be used when an Adveon MSSQL Server instance already exists.

In this case the following message appears after selection of the standard installation:

You have to use the advanced installation mode or contact the administrator.

3 Installation

3.1 Overview

You can choose one of the following three installation modes:

Standard: All components of Adveon will be installed on a single machine. If multi-machine set-up is

required, the advanced installation option has to be used.

The following components will be installed onto one machine:

o Server: (you specified Adveon service address and data download service account) o Adveon Client: default (c:\Program Files(x86)\Adveon) o Database: default (DB-server: your server name, DB instance: Adveon, DB name: Adveon) o CAM gateway (if selected, only one possible)

Client only: Adveon will be running in client/server mode. Only for the installation of additional Client-

Interfaces. Components installed

o Adveon Client: (your specified Installation path and web service address)

Advanced: Offers individual selection and customization of all available components.

Possible installation and customization of the following components:

o Server

o Adveon Client installation path

o Database

o CAM gateway(s)

Advanced installation can be required if you:

o need to distribute the Adveon components to different machines.

Step 8: Database configuration The ‘Server’/’Database’ component was selected First option: ‘Create new SQL 2008R2 server’

If you don’t already have an existing Adveon MS SQL Server instance, we recommend leaving the default settings, in

which case a new SQL 2008R2 server will be created. The SQL server name is then automatically set to the name of

the PC running the Adveon application installer and cannot be modified.

You can modify the name for the instance and the database. The default setting is ‘Adveon’ for both.

You can choose to use ‘SQL Server authentication’ instead of ‘Windows authentication’. For ‘SQL Server

authentication’ the username is automatically set to ‘sa’ for server administrator and cannot be modified. Create

and confirm your preferred password.

Click the ‘Next’ button to continue.

Page 21: Adveon Installation Guide - joinville.ifsc.edu.br

Second option: ‘Use existing SQL 2008R2 server’:

If you like to use an already existing MS SQL server instance on your own or on a remote machine for deploying the

Adveon database you can select the option ‘Use existing SQL 2008R2 server’. Please consider that due to possible

firewall and SQL server restrictions the deployment on a remote server might not work. To bypass this problem, we

recommend selecting a SQL server running on the same PC where the installer is launched.

If you decide on using an existing SQL server, you also have to:

specify an existing server name, instance name (if named instance is used) and database name

choose how to log on to the database server (‘Log on to the server’ option).

For ‘SQL Server authentication’ enter a valid ‘Username’ and ‘Password’

Click on the ‘Test connection’ button to verify your settings. If successful the ‘Next’ button will be enabled.

If the web service is not available, refer to chapter 8 on how to troubleshoot this issue.

8 Troubleshooting

This section deals with information which can be helpful to troubleshoot problems related to the Adveon application.

It describes known issues and log files details.

8.1 Installation

This section focuses on the issues which can occur during application installation, describes installer log files and also

lists known installation limitations.

8.1.1 Client Configuration – connection issue

A connection problem can occur when configuring client connection details. When the connection test using the ‘Test

connection’ button is not successful, the following error message is displayed – see picture below.

In this case verify that the address is correct. If the address is correct but the connection test is still failing try the

following potential solutions:

1. The Windows Service hosting Adveon Web Service is not started on the specified machine In order to check the status of the Adveon Windows Services follow these steps:

o Connect to the machine hosting the Server component – see the value of ‘YourServerName’ in the dialog (it can be a different machine than the machine where client is being installed in multi-machine deployment scenario)

o Start Services MMC snap-in The snap-in can be started from Administrative Tools or type Services.msc on command line or in

the Start ‘Search program and files' dialog.

o Ensure that the ‘Adveon Service Host’ Windows service is started – see picture below. When the service is not started you have to start the service or contact your Administrator.

Page 39: Adveon Installation Guide - joinville.ifsc.edu.br

Adveon™ Installation Guide

39

2. The Windows Firewall blocks the connection

During the Server component installation the Windows Firewall is configured to allow a connection to the

Adveon Client. To verify this configuration - checking Windows Firewall setting on the machine where Server

component was installed - follow the steps below:

o Connect to the machine where the Server component was installed – see the value of ‘YourServerName’ in the dialog (it can be a different machine than the machine where client is being installed in multi-machine deployment scenario)

o Go to Control Panel -> System and Security -> Windows Firewall

o Click on the ’Allow a program or features through Windows Firewall’ on the top left

o Verify the setting for the ‘Adveon Server Service Host’ – see picture below

The port number value must match the value specified in the Client Configuration dialog.

Page 40: Adveon Installation Guide - joinville.ifsc.edu.br

Adveon™ Installation Guide

40

8.1.2 Database Configuration – connection issue

This connection problem can occur when configuring database connection details. When the connection test with the

‘Test connection’ button is not successful, the error message is displayed – see picture below.

In this case verify that the server, instance and database names are correct. If all values are correct but the connection

test is still failing the Windows Firewall might be blocking the connection to the MSSQL Server on the database server.

Contact your administrator to verify this issue. A rule has to be created to enable the connection for the dynamic port

when a dedicated Adveon named MS SQL instance is used, or for the specific port 1433 when the default instance is

used.

See link below how to configure Windows Firewall for the database engine access.

8.1.3 Log files

The log files created during the installation process are stored in the %temp% folder. The folder contains log files

created from the Adveon application installer including its prerequisites.

Two types of log files are created:

Log files for the overall bundle

<bundle_name>_<major_ver>.<minor_ver>_<timestamp>.log

Log files for the bundle

packages<bundle_name>_<major_ver>.<minor_ver>_<timestamp>_<package_seq_no>_<package_id>.log

8.1.4 Known Limitations

This sections describes know limitation and issues of the installer.

The Adveon databases are deployed using the Database installer component. The User can select if the

databases are deployed to an existing MSSQL Server instance or if a new MSSQL Server instance dedicated

just to the Adveon databases is created.

Remote deployment is currently not supported. The Database component can only be installed to the local

machine.

It is currently not supported to install just Server services. Databases are always deployed within the Server

component.

The documents must be stored on the local machine. This is due to the limited access of the local service

account under which the document service currently runs.
