“Advocating Women’s Rights”

Women have continued to fight for their rights throughout the course of history

and that this struggle for the equality that women have longed for is a continuing affair

that the state continuously tries to respond to.

As a student and a future lawyer, I too believe in the concept of justice and

equality and I believe that every right of all citizens must be protected accordingly. I am

a firm believer of the rights of women. I believe that since my mother brought me to this

world, they should be afforded the respect that they truly deserve and regardless if they

are actual mothers or not, women should be respected with utmost importance. My idea

to advocate women’s rights is to start with the formation of the minds of children. The

minds of children are easily influence with their surroundings therefore change should

start at an early age. I plan to write a children’s book on the rights of women but put it

into a more simplified version of the laws regarding women’s rights and how it is applied

to the lives of children. It is a difficult task to make children understand laws because of

their lack of interest for the rigorousness of trying to comprehend it in the first place

therefore, basing it on the interests and lives of children should make it okay for children

to comprehend. My aim for the book is for children not to have any sexual stereotypes

just because their parents said so. It is not right for children to solely listen to

stereotypical and gender-biased opinions of others just because they have no choices.

Children should be able to know that people are people no matter where you look at it

and that gender roles should not dictate what they can do with their lives if doing

something else not in accordance to gender roles please them and make them feel they

are living a fulfilled life.

I plan to do this 3-5 years after I graduate law school and that I have good

knowledge of our laws already. This gives me time to research also on the new laws

that would have been amended already and new laws upholding the rights of women. I

would be able to compile it by then and think of more concepts related to the lives of

children in accordance with the law. After that, I would find a publisher willing to release

the books widespread across different mainstream bookstores. I really want a wide

publication of this book because I want parents to understand this concept of gender

equality and elimination of gender roles as well. It will be a rigorous task but this is the

simplest way I can contribute to the advocacy of women’s rights. I do not want to do

something so serious in nature but then again, I want to advocate an issue that needs to

be taken more seriously in a fun way aside from the fact that, as I’ve mentioned earlier,

children should be able to understand this so they do not grow up to be sexist, gender

role-oriented people that refuses to accept changes in society.
