Responsibilities of New Hire:

Responsibilities will depend on the area in which the new hire works. Our students are provided with the training and tools they will need to excel as actuaries and professionals in our competitive environment. Specific responsibilities vary by area, though all of our students are expected to progress through actuarial exams while growing professionally. The supportive study program at Mutual of Omaha reflects the interest and sponsorship that our senior management provides. Qualitative skills and leadership talent are also important and our actuaries are expected to learn and grow professionally after completing the Society's academic requirements. Our interns are not expected to have vast or detailed knowledge of insurance or actuarial science; however, we are looking for students who have the aptitude to leanr quickly and master financial projects. Potential is more important than preexisting knowledge. Our interns are exposed to a variety of industry-commom software packages and tools, including MG-ALFA, MS Excel, MS Access, ARCVAL, and a variety of others. As an entry level Actuarial Associate, the new actuary will be assigned to one of the Actuarial Department's FSAs and will work with him or her on various projects which may include product development and pricing, surplus and risk analysis, mortality and morbidity studies, and valuation of liabilities. Job rotation usually takes place annually.
