”Embracing All of You” with Tamara Laporte – Life Book 2016

Hello fabulous creative friend!

Welcome to 'Embracing All of You' a Life Book lessonin which look at embracing all of ourselves, both thelight and the dark.

This week I include a 'self-forgiveness' exercise whichhelps you work through shame and guilt, bring moreawareness to why it is what you did and then looks athow to make positive change.

Self-forgiveness is key to healing and to makingpositive changes which will both beneft you and others.

Art wise we are going to be creating a painting that includes gelli plate techniques and something I've dubbed: 'silhouetting'.

Supplies used this sessionPlease note, below are the supplies I used, but you can substitute the supplies if and where needed if you don't have what I've used.

1 Sheet of hotpressed watercolour paper (140lbs) (I used 16 x 12” but you can use any size you prefer)

Gelli Plate Strips of torn paper (for the trees) Brayer/ Scissors White Gesso Acrylics inks/ Fluid acrylics A cut out of a silhouette of a fgure Acrylics paints (dark/ foresty) Graphite pencil (I like the graphgear 1000 by pentel

2b in lead, 0.9 width, but any graphite pencil will do. Watersoluble crayons (Caran D'ache Neocolor II) or

any other water based paints Acrylics paint in skin tones Tombow or Aqua Markers Posca pens black and white

(or other waterproof black/ white pens) Optional: colour pencils (non-watersoluble) in darker

colours like aubergine/ dark red/ dark brown/ grey

Step by Step

Step 1. Find an image of a pose you likeonline, cut the shape out neatly and close tothe edges of the shape.



Step 2. Place the cut out silhouette either straight onto the gelli plate or stick it down with some double sided tape on to the page.

Step 3. Using acrylics inks or fuid acrylics in' foresty colours' put some droplets onto the gelli plate.



Step 4. Using your brayer, roll out the paint over the silhouette.

Step 5. Place the gelli plate face down. Leave the silhouette on the page, continue to keep printing the gelli plate until you've covered most of the page.



Step 6. When you're fnished printing with the gelli plate, remove the silhouette, you should be left with a crisp silhouette surrounded by gelli plate prints.

Step 7. To create the trees, I tore several piece of paper into strips. Placing 2 strips opposite each other with some space between, I then brayered white gesso in between the 2 strips to create the illusion of a tree with a rugged tree bark edge.



Step 8. I used the side of the brayer and a blunt implement to start sketching in some faint branches.

Step 9. Referring back to photo I used for the silhouette, I started sketching in the features of the silhouette.



Step 10. I added colour to the skin with watersolube crayons, acrylics and colour pencils.

Step 11. For the dress, Iadded frst a solid wash,then I added some darkerblue splatter and as a fnaltouch I hand drew a foral/nature pattern with a whileposca pen.



Step 12. Using a posca pen, a paint brush and some white acrylics or gesso painted in a refned the tree branches.

Final TouchesStep 13. With a white posca pen and crayons, I added doodles and falling leaves/ fecks of light in the dark background, symbolically representing the dark and the light.





And here is the fnal painting.
