The Visionary Awards recognize members of our community who set an inspiring standard of

leadership, community involvement, and professional achievement. Each honoree exemplifies Rabbi Siegel’s

hope for a better world through the core values of learning (limmud), justice (tzedek), and compassion (chesed).

This year’s recipient, Hazzan Alberto Mizrahi, serves as a powerful example of dedication to these core values. His willingness

to lead and his unique contributions have strengthened our Jewish and secular communities. We invite you to join us in celebration and by doing so, help fulfill Rabbi Siegel’s legacy for future generations.

| Music is a Reminder

That Life is Beautiful

Danielle LazarPresident Anshe Emet Synagogue [email protected]

Dear Friends,

What is it about music? It can make us

smile, cry, move. It can inspire us or calm

us. Like many of you, my memories often

have a soundtrack attached to them. My

dad was a classically trained musician and

there was never a time that our house was

not filled with music.

Some of my earliest memories are

of us playing piano together or singing

together – listening to records with my

mom, my sister, cousins and friends. When

my husband Jay and I started dating, one

of our first dates was a concert at the

Boston Symphony. We share a deep love

of classical music, opera, Broadway and the

Great American Songbook – among others.

His favorite band of all time is the Beatles

– and his greatest joy is that both of our

kids love them, too!

Our lives are wrapped in music. We sing

lullabies to our children and teach them

about rhythm by banging on pots and pans.

As kids and teens we learn the words to

songs almost through osmosis. As adults

we relive important moments of our lives –

happy or sad – when we hear a song. Music

is a reminder that life is beautiful.

Here at Anshe Emet we have a rich legacy

of music. From soaring cantorial music,

to acappella prayers, to singalongs with

guitars – we are fortunate to be blessed

with the gift of music and musicians.

With that in mind, it is my great hope

that you will make arrangements to

attend in-person and make a meaningful

gift as we honor Hazzan Alberto Mizrahi

on November 14 at the Visionaries of

Anshe Emet Award Gala. I hope we can

all join together to show him our love

and heartfelt gratitude for his 30 years

of music and exemplary service to Anshe

Emet and to each one of us.

for more infomation or to discuss your family's needs.

For several years, Rabbi Siegel recognized a growing need in the community for Jewish gravesites within the city. In response, Anshe Emet, through its Endowment Fund, purchased 40 plots at Rosehill Cemetery in 2018. Those plots sold very quickly and with just a few remaining, the Endowment Fund has now purchased an additional 40 plots available to congregants to purchase.Founded in 1859, Rosehill Cemetery is the largest—and one of the older— cemeteries in the city of Chicago. Located in the North Ravenswood neighborhood Rosehill Cemetery is known for the many Civil War soldiers who are buried there.

If you are interested in learning more about purchasing plots in the Anshe Emet section at Rosehill, please contact Mimi Weisberg at (773) 868 – 5123 or [email protected].
