Farmers Market Getting Even ( as told to me by my mother)
Life on the open prairie, the choic-es for fun were few. After the hustle of harvest, there wasn’t much to do Money was scarce in those days, to rent the local school. So everybody’s farm house was entered in to the pool. Surprise parties would spring up at any framer's home A message was quickly passed over the party phone. Sandwiches and coffee, and some-times rabbit stew. Cake, pie, or cookies is how they paid their due. Everyone took a turn to spread the work around. But the best house for parties could easily be found. It belonged to a bachelor, whose place was bug and neat. So every second party, that’s where the folks would meet. Enough of this uneven system, a plan he hatched in his brain. Determined those interlopers, not mess up his place again. Before the party was over, he caught them all by surprise, For what happened next, they couldn’t believe their eyes. He collected the dirty dishes, spread them out on the kitchen floor. Without a word of warning, opened the back door. Let in his hungry hounds, who quickly helped themselves , Then he gathered those tongue-polished dishes, and stacked them back on the shelves.
