Dear Principal Dr. Mariappan, Faculty Members and Students,

Congratulations to you all as you gear up to release your annual newsletter for the

academic year August 2017-2018. Indeed I can see the variety of content that is

going to feature in the newsletter, from activities conducted by the

Entrepreneurship Cell which include Bootcamps, Workshops and Technical Talks,

to Reports on Sports, University Competitions, Alumni Meet, Departmental

Activities, Training, Placements and most important the Departmental Result

Analysis.

Agnel Institute of Technology and Design (AITD) is growing year by year and reaching newer heights. The energetic staff along

with Principal Dr. Mariappan have taken up the challenge to make AITD, a premier Engineering College in North Goa. Better

lesson plans, remedial classes, carefully prepared resource material and interactive teaching techniques are helping students to

understand course content better and the all round performance of students is growing.

A continuous engagement of Industry experts who visit the college as resource persons help students to understand the needs

and challenges they have to rise up to as budding engineers. Various technical competitions and innovative projects help our

students to sharpen their minds and apply classroom learning to life situations.

Keep up the good work, dear staff and students. The fruit of dedicated teaching is deeper understanding. The more we learn the

wiser we become. True wisdom is the understanding that “the larger the island of knowledge, the longer the shoreline of wonder

and the island of knowledge is surrounded by an infinite sea of mystery” ... Ralph W. Sockman

May the Great God, the source of all wisdom and enlightenment, impart His eternal light on all your efforts as you teach and

learn to make our world and country a better place for everyone.

God bless you all.

Motivation gets you going , but discipline keeps you growing, it's a refining art by

which talent becomes ability and with the same exponential zeal for motivation

and discipline we are accelerating towards the third volume of the

newsletter “ VIPAZYANA” this year. This newsletter will act as

key hole to the informative expedition of all the activities

conducted in the department to magnify the efforts taken by the

faculty, staff and students to perpetuate “Excellence is the sole goal”.

Post lunch, a panel discussion was hosted in which a group of industry experts answered several questions and discussed their opinions on the same. The panel consisted of experts like Mr. Kunal Kerkar, CEO, Helix Tech, Ms. Julia Terenjuk, CEO Creative Capsule, Mr. Milind Anrekar, Vice President, Open Destinations, Mr. Nilesh Nayak, Director, Sapna group, Mr. Rohind Parkar, CEO Mrinq Technologies and Mr. Gajanan Nagarsekar, Managing director, Kallows Engineering.

They answered questions like 1. What will be future of Industries in Goa 10 years from now? Can we expect some Big MNCs to have their footprint in Goa as well?

th2. According to World Economic Forum (WEF) the global manufacturing index puts India on 30 Position and one of the main reasons listed is a lack of adequate skill development trainers. How can Academia and Industry come together to bridge this gap?

3. Are there any technology specific courses which we can do to increase our chances of getting recruited?4. What is typical hierarchy of growth which fresher goes through after joining a firm?5. What should be the optimal period of internship a student should undergo to be Industry Ready?6. Is it possible for Industry to adopt few students from second year onwards and train them slowly so that they

eventually become employable at the end of 4 years?7. How viable is an Industry outsourcing to trainer to every engineering college in Goa to increase the skill set of

students even before joining the organization?8. How relevant and useful is the knowledge in our academic textbooks when we join today's industry?9. A lot of Graduates feel exploited in terms of Pay scale they get as a fresher in some of the firms. Do you believe in

standardization of minimum wage that must be paid to fresher engineering graduate?10. Why MCA students are sometimes preferred over Engineering graduates?11. How can GTA help in getting recruitment for students? What are the future plans of GTA with respect to

increasing employability of students in the state?12. What do you feel are the minimum skill sets a student should have post his/her bachelors in engineering?

This panel discussion was then extended to the students and faculty. Dr. V. Mariappan, the principal, posed a question on the possibility of industrial training programs for a few interested students so that they can be better equiped to face industrial challenges once they finish studying, after college hours or on non-working Saturdays, since a 2-week internship prescribed by the GU was inadequate to improve the skill set of the students. He received a positive response from GTA and the panel also advised the institution to seek this aid from the college Alumni, as they would be most willing to serve the institution. One of the students gave his opinion that the semester exams do not correctly judge the students based on their knowledge and asked if instead of these, some computer adaptive tests could be conducted, that would correctly judge the student's level of knowledge. Another question regarding which programming language should the students focus upon with so many languages emerging by the day. The panel discussed these questions and put forth a few practical solutions. The event concluded being a huge success in strengthening the bond between the institution and Industry and ended with Prof. Gaurish Walke's vote of thanks.
