Cold War- a conflict between U.S. and Soviet Union in which neither nation directly confronted the other on the battlefield. 2. Yalta Conference – FDR, Churchill and Stalin met in the Soviet Union. They agreed to divide up Germany. Stalin also promised free elections in Soviet occupied Eastern European nations, to join the war against Japan and participate in the United Nations. 3. United Nations- organization intended to promote world peace. The U.N. is located in NYC. 4. Potsdam Conference- Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin and Clement Altee met to determine the fate of Eastern Europe. Germany was divided into 4 zones. Stalin prevents free elections in Poland and Eastern Europe. 5. Marshall Plan- U.S. Secretary of State George Marshall gave money to European countries who needed to rebuild after WW2. (to stop the spread of communism)

Do Now: Underline Vocab. word and definition in reading! 1. Cold War- a conflict between U.S. and Soviet Union in which neither nation directly confronted the other on the battlefield.

2. Yalta Conference – FDR, Churchill and Stalin met in the Soviet Union. They agreed to divide up Germany. Stalin also promised free elections in Soviet occupied Eastern European nations, to join the war against Japan and participate in the United Nations.
