PASTOR `S LETTER

4TH SUNDAY OF EASTER, APRIL 22

Jesus Christ compares today his work of salvation, which is the institution of the Church, to

a sheepfold. He shows himself in a role of a good shepherd, who knows his flock and each of its

sheep and takes care of them. The criterion of good shepherding here is offering His life for the

sheep. Instead “a hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own” treats

them instrumentally and in facing a danger, escapes, not wanting to expose his life to the danger.

He “sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters

them. This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep”. Jesus shows himself

as a good shepherd, and precisely the best one, not having others like him, because it is about the divine sheepfold

(of the Church) we are speaking about, which ultimately is difficult to compare to any earthly relationship. As a rule

no (earthly) shepherd is able to give his life for the sheep, even if he knows them very well and even if he loves them,

because he is not that crazy to die for animals. But in the case of Jesus it is about divine relationship and the eternal life

of the human beings, which is hidden behind the name of divine sheepfold, it means, the Church. Here Jesus, as

a divine shepherd, knows his sheep and they know Him. At stake is his life and eternal salvation of his sheep,

according to the will of the Father. He wants the life of all the sheep even those who do not belong to his fold

(being out of the Church). The moving power of this activity is love according to which no one is able to force him

asking him to offer his life for the sheep. He himself lays down his life, according to the will of his Father, “in order to

take it up again” in time of the resurrection, giving that way, the gift of redemption to all creation, that is to the sheep.

He says He “has power to lay down his life, and power to take it up again”. Only that way, through love, behind which

stays the offering of his life, Jesus gives back to his creatures the renovations of its being, and then the sheep “will hear

his voice and there will be one flock, one shepherd”. In the second reading today, St. Peter calls this renovate creature

an “assuming of a dignity of the children of God” which is received in the sacrament of baptism.

El evangelio de hoy compara la Iglesia, como el fruto de la obra salvadora de Jesucristo, al rebaño de las ovejas,

donde en contraste a los rebanñs terrestres, reinan totalmente diferente reglas. Detrás del mutual conocimiento este

amor, que se manifiesta bajo la ofredda de vida de Jesucristo (Hijo de Dios) para que sea en fin un solo rebaño y un

solo pastor. Renovado por esta ofrenda el hombre recibe en el sacramento del baptismo la dignidad del hijo de Dios.

This weekend we will host a missionary from India Fr. Joseph Vadakkel, whose mission is spreading the glory of God

upon His presence in the Most Holy Sacrament related with the prayer of healing. I invite everyone to a special

worship of God before the Holy Host led by Fr. Vadakkel, on Saturday, April 21, following the Mass 4:30 PM.

The preschoolers are as busy as ever!

They continue to learn and discover many of the gifts that God has

given them. Recently we listened to the story The Very Hungry

Caterpillar written by Eric Carle which is a story about the life cycle

of a caterpillar. After reading we: acted out the story, pretended to

be caterpillars, and made colorful butterflies.

We sure had fun! All around us we are seeing signs of new life.

Spring is in the air! The days are growing longer and warmer,

the earth is waking up, spring flowers are beginning to sprout, and the grass is turning green again.

We thank God every day for the wonderful world that He has made for us.

We are also thankful for everyone who supports our school.

There will be a PPC meeting on Tuesday April 24 at 7pm

in the library. We are asking that all St. William schools

and parish clubs of all languages send at lest one

representative to this meeting.

Our parish has gone through many changes this year

and it is important that we meet with everyone before

summer vacations begin.

All parishioners are also welcome to attend.

PPC MEETING

St. William School presents the 1st Annual SWS Trivia Night on Saturday April 28th.

Doors open at 6pm, Trivia start at 7pm. Join us for a fun night to raise funds for the school and reduce the

debt. Buy tickets for an entire team, $150 for a table (ten person maximum per table).

Or register as an individual for $15 and we'll mix/match you with a team.Participants must be 21 years of age

and over. We will provide pizza, but feel free to join in our potluck and bring an appetzier, snack or dessert to

share. Trivia night is BYOB, so bring your own drink. Create a theme. Feeling inspired?

Create a catchy name for your team and a theme for your table!

Decorate and dress accordingly and the most creative theme wins a priza!

Doors will open at 6 pm so that teams can arrive and set up their tables prior to the event.

Trivia Starts at 7 pm. There will be a cash prize for the 1st Place Winning Trivia Team.

Teams will work together to answer 10 rounds of 10 pre-determined questions (100 questions total) from a

variety of topics. We'll have 50/50 raffles, Pluck a Duck Game, Basket Raffles and play some Heads-or-Tails.
