Air is a unique integrated wireless Triple play point to multipoint system solution on the telecommunication market, providing microwave

radio access to all the residential and business users in a radius of over 15km from every base station. An operator (CATV, ISP, incumbent,

others) is able to provide all services, users are looking for today – digital TV broadcast (more than 100 digital TV programs in DVD or HD

quality at the same time), Broadband Internet, VoIP telephony, FAX services, Pay per View, Video on Demand, Telemetry, etc.

Standards used in the Air system are the same as in bidirectional digital cable TV networks – DVB-T and HDTV for TV broadcast and

DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS for IP transfer (including VoIP). The downstream distributes TV and RA programs and IP traffic as in standard

CATV network (the broadcast is similar to Satellite broadcast), upstream consist of IP traffic only (including VoIP) in the direction from

the end user to the Main station. The same system can be used in a standard coaxial, analog or digital cable TV network or in a combinednetwork (wireless and cable), providing both – TV and IP access over wireless and coaxial cable infrastructure. The Air system is suitable to

expand the network and service portfolio of ISPs, mobile operators, incumbents.

By implementing the AIR system, an operator is able to provide the most advanced triple play services to his customer base, by having low

customer acquisition cost, Fast Deployment and Immediate start of Revenues resulting in Return on Investment typically

    in 18 to 30 month.

    The Network Management Server

allows the operator to do Remote

Supervision and Control of all the Network

    Elements. The server generates Alarms

in case of failures and errors. The network

    management server also allows Remote

    configuration and Administration. These

features are all protected by strong

    encryption.

    The MUX digital multiplex  equipment

multiplexes 4 to maximum 9 (depending on

the compression rate) TV and RA programs

in digital MPEG2 format, received through

an ASI or SPI interface. The MUX adds

to ASI or SPI stream an additional data

channel received from the IP DVB inserter

    (channel coding information).

    The Wireless internet transport

    system enables the seamless transport

    and frequency conversion from standard

    DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS CMTS to the

base station and then to the end user, and

also enables the seamless transport and

conversion of frequency from the end user

to the base station and then to the standard

    DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS CMTS.

    The DVB-T modulator provides

    Forward Error Correction, modulates the

digital MPEG2 signal in QPSK, QAM 16 or

QAM 64, according to the DVB-T standard

in the UHF frequency band; C2 to C69

(471 to 862 MHz). The channel bandwidth

    is 8 MHz (for 4 to maximum 9 video/audio

signals). The modulator has a possibility of

4 independent outputs; each of them can

use a separate frequency – possibility ofdistributing the same TV and RA programs

in DVB-T format to 4 different operators.

    The AIR CODING system

    (SCRAMBLER) provides the operator with

     the possibility of preventing unauthorized

access to the air distribution services

    and provides better data transmission

    protection. AIR coding system offers

flexibility of providing individual TV and RA

program scheme to each separate user

in the system. The AIR coding system is

connected via the AIR IP inserter to the RF

     transport stream.

    The User WEB, administration and

control server is connected to the user

data base and allows the end user real-time

access from a web browser in order to get

certain information or access to certain

services (Pay per View, Video on Demand,

etc.) The server also runs the user

    database which allows user manipulation

to the operator (time limited use of certain

channel, Video on Demand, billing etc.).

    The DVB Control server generates

a code for each TV and RA channel, and

checks the database on the user database

server, where it is specified to which TV

and RA programs a user has access to.

The control server is connected to the Air

CODING system which generates the code

AIR DIGITAL WIRELESS TRIPLE PLAY NETWORK

Source of TV and RA programs in the AIR

system are digital and/or analog satellite/

     terrestrial/cable TV and RA programs,

    received through satellite and terrestrial

    antennas or through cable.

    The satellite demodulator converts

the received signal on the 1. Interfrequency

to ASI output (in the case of digital

receiver) or to analog signal (audio and

video) in the case of analog receiver. In the case of an analog receiver, video and

audio are then digitalized through MPEG2

encoders (ASI output provides the MPEG2

format directly). The MPEG 2 encoder can

define a higher compression rate if needed.

Signals received in digital format can not be

    additionally compressed.

AIR IP inserter inserts a data stream

of IP into the RF transport stream and

acts like a translator between IP and RF

a code from the AIR coding system,

    EPG (electronic program guide), other

    information.

The multipoint antenna enables bidirectional communication between the main

    station and end-users.

    DOWNSTREAM

The multipoint transmitter receives the signal from the AIR main station on the

interfrequency. The signal is then converted to high TX frequency (Downstream

transmission frequency) filtered and amplified. The bandwidth of the frequency is the

same as the bandwidth received from main station. The Downstream transmission

frequency is then transmitted through the antenna with a typical gain of 10 dB

(depending on the frequency and antenna system – Omni directional, sectorized).

    UPSTREAM

The multipoint receiver receives and down converts the high frequency signal

(upstream receiving frequency), filters and amplifies it and then sends it to the AIR

Wireless internet transport system which is connected to a CMTS. If needed, the

signal can be also transmitted from the base station to the CMTS through coaxial cable

network, fiber optical backbone or microwave radio link.

    Base station

    Base station

The Point to Point radio link

provides an exclusive bidirectional wirelessconnection between the main and base

station (if they are in different locations)

and feeds the multipoint antennas at the

remote base stations. The Point to Point

    connection transports the same frequency

bandwidth, produced at the Main and

    base station. The microwave connection

     transports the whole transmitted and

    received uncompressed frequency.

The end user equipment includes an antenna with the AIR transceiver, which allows bidirectional communication

with the base station, the AIR settop box (Dolby digital sound) and a standard cable modem for IP traffic and

an optional IP or analog telephone(connected to SIP server interface).

    Outdoor unitDOWNSTREAM

The AIR transceiver receives the downstream transmission frequency which transports TV and IP (data and voice) content through the dish antenna and filters the signal before down converting it to a UHF signal. The UHF signal is then transmitted through a coaxial cable to a splitter which splits the signal to acable modem (for IP traffic) and to the AIR receiver box (for TV and RA service).  (Multiple AIR settop boxes and modems can be connected to the same

    outdoor unit)

    UPSTREAM

The AIR transceiver receives a DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS signal, containing upstreamIP content, from the cable modem, filters and amplifies it. The signal is thenconverted to the upstream receiving frequency and transmitted with a typical RFpower of 10 dBm (with automatic gain control according to the CMTS instructions)

to the antenna and then transmitted through the antenna with a gain of 25 dB(heavily depending on frequency and antenna size). Signal modulation is inaccordance with the DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS standard, the RF power is controlledby the CMTS. Maximum broadband bandwidth per user complies with the DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS standard. The unit is compatible with DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS 1.0, 1.1,2.0, 3.0 and future DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS standards

REMARK: In case of TV and RA services only, AIR receiver (simpler version) can beused.

The AIR settop box  converts the

UHF signal on the transport stream SPI,

descrambles the signal and then decodes

the MPEG2 format to an analog audio/video

signal compatible with a standard TV set.

    Indoor units

    The system uses a standard

    DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS cable modem

(interfaces and number of them vary

on used model and type of modem).

The system is fully compatible with any

IP phone with an Ethernet interface

or with any analog phone and also

    supports Fax applications.
