Alan Golden - Business Manager [email protected]. 231 This year’s kids Christmas party was another huge success. This event is by far the best one of the year, it’s all for the kids and grandkids of IBEW, Local Union 364. To put into perspective what this party truly means, you can only look at our Santa, retired Brother Ty Hillman has held the title of Santa for 16 years and is showing no signs of giving this seat up anytime soon. It is greatly appreciated what Brother Hillman did and continues to do for our Local. Congratulations to our ADT group on their new three-year agreement. Thank you to Brothers Larry Rowlett and Danny Sissum for assisting in negotiations. Both Brothers were a big help in getting this three-year contract done. Your health and welfare trustees have been working out the details of the HRA Benefit Card. There will be a meeting with the trustees and the administrator of the HRA Card (TASC). This meeting will be held on January 8 th to answer any questions you or your spouse might have regarding this new benefit. If you can make it on the 8 th it should be extremely informative on our new HRA card. Senate Republicans narrowly passed a bill to overhaul the American tax system in the wee hours of Saturday December 2 nd , this House tax reform bill is a kick in the teeth to working families in the US. This bill is nothing more than a giant bonus check for billionaires and large corporations. At a time of rising inequality, we can’t afford to shift more wealth from the poor and working-class families to the excessively wealthy. The bill not only makes taxes unfair to working people, but it also will lead to deeper cuts to education, health care, and other vital programs we depend on. We have learned from experience that instead of generating economic growth and jobs, tax cuts and the resulting lost revenue leads to unacceptable cuts in education, health care, and vital public services. Currently, corporations already pay far less than their top statutory tax rate of 35%. The tax bill will not bring jobs back, but instead will encourage corporations to send work offshore, replace labor with machines, and give higher compensation packages to their CEOs. This tax bill is a disaster for working families. Corporations and the wealthiest among us will receive trillions of dollars in tax breaks. At the same time, needed revenue for investments in education, infrastructure, housing, and health care will be taken away from our communities. Brothers and Sisters, trickle-down economics doesn’t work, recent history shows us this. On Saturday December 2 nd while most Americans where sleeping the republican led Senate narrowly approve this tax bill with a 51 to 49 vote. Giving the wealthy tax relief is not the answer to anything. I only hope that Americans across the land will exercise their rights in the upcoming years and vote anyone who supported this tax relief for the rich, out of office. Every year our November meeting is the tip off for the holiday season with Thanksgiving being the first up, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the biggest event of the year takes place in Rockford, The Stroll on State. Our LMCC was proud to be a premier sponsor for this years Stroll on State. This year’s event had an addition of a parade to kickoff this event, Thank You to Brothers Dave Cargill and Aaron Hafferty for transforming our Labor Day float into a Christmas themed float for this parade. Their hard work was sincerely appreciated. Now since we just celebrated thanksgiving it’s time for me to give out some well-deserved thank you. IBEW, Local Union 364 has been one of the busiest locals in the IBEW this past year, I would like to give a sincere thank you to the Business Agents and office staff for all their hard work throughout the year. To the Officers and the Stewards, it is extremely important that you all know how much it is appreciated for what you all do. Lastly, my brother Darrin and I would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to all the IBEW, Local Union 364 members for your thoughts and prayers on the passing of our father, my father was so proud to be a member of IBEW, Local Union 364 and for good reason. We are truly blessed to be part of such a great Local Union. I would like to wish all IBEW, Local Union 364 members and your families a Merry Christmas and I look forward to seeing you at the December 28 th Union Meeting.

Since our last meeting we have handbilled Schnuck’s in Roscoe against Advanced Electric, briefly picketed CM Electric at Dunkin Donuts in Machesney Park and are currently picketing JP Electric at Little Caesar’s in Belvidere. We will continue to picket and handbill throughout the winter months to fight for work for our members, continually working our key targets to keep our market share strong in Local 364.

On Wednesday, November 8th, I participated in IBEW, Local Union 701’s contractor blitz in Warrenville, Illinois. The blitz consisted of organizers from all over the state of Illinois

visiting Non- signatory contractors in Local 701’s jurisdiction and making contact to determine what work they’re doing and their overall threat level. This was extremely beneficial to IBEW, Local Union 364 as it puts us in touch with our non-signatory neighbors to the east to identify them if they try to enter in our jurisdiction.

As the holidays approach we continue to have a strong work picture in Local 364. We would like to thank those of you who have helped and continue to help on a consistent basis. It’s the strength of the members that keep Local 364 at the very top of the IBEW and we will

continue to fight for as much work as we can get for our members.

With Christmas just around the corner please keep in mind our Union friendly businesses when spending your hard-earned money this year. Let them know why you are buying from them. It is a partnership we want to continue to grow as we move forward into 2018.

Happy Holidays

Brad Williams

Construction for a new $2 Million Rockford Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic has started. This 6,200sq’ facility is located at 449 Roxbury Rd and should be completed sometime in Spring. Cord Construction is the (GC) and Miller has the electric.

Construction has also started on a new branch location for Heritage Credit Union. This project is located at 7144 N. Perryville Rd in Machesney Park, next to the Meijer store. Special Power was awarded this project.

The re-building of the KFC that burned down this past Spring has begun. B.A. Ward, Inc. from Washington, IL is the (GC) and RNS Electric from (LU 34) will be wiring it.

The dirt work has started downtown on Jefferson & 3rd Street, where the new Kelly Williamson Mobil is set to be built. Stenstrom is the (GC) for the project and Wilson has the electric.

The buildout for a new grocery/convenience store at 310 7th Street has started. Fridh Corp is the (GC) and Lender Electric will be wiring it.

A new car lot & detail shop is being built at 3909 Sandy Hollow Rd. The name will be Anything on Wheels, and Nicholson has the electrical contract for the project.

Rockford Airport has recently started work on a Parking Lot Access Project. This will require patrons of the airport to start paying for parking using ticket machines and booths, which will be located throughout the parking lot starting on December 20, 2017. LaCrosse Electric from Local 134 has this work and have already hired 2 wiremen from Local 364 for the project.

The contracts for the new Hononegah Field House were awarded earlier this month, and Morse Electric was awarded the project with Ringland Johnson selected as the (GC).

Earlier this month, the Health Facilities Review Board approved Swedish American’s request to build their new 4-story, $24 Million clinic on N. Bell School Road, near the existing Cancer Center. This means that the only facility left for board approval is the $130 Million addition/remodel to the downtown campus, which is scheduled to be heard by the board in January. All 3 clinics and possible hospital addition should start sometime in early 2018.

In Belvidere at the Waste Water Treatment Plant, Mechanical, Inc. was awarded the (GC) contract for the Sludge Thickening Building Improvement Project. Total cost of this project is $1.5 Million, and Northwest Technical from Local 117 was awarded the electric.

On November 1st, Organizer, Brad Williams and myself went to Springfield for the Illinois State Construction Conference. We got to listen to vast number of politicians come in to speak, such as House Speaker Michael Madigan and Representative Lou Lang. To be brief, the message was clear that we can’t allow Gov. Rauner to win a second term, or lose any seats in the House & Senate. We also got to hear about the work outlook in Locals throughout Illinois, and it seems that most of the work being done is in this Northern Illinois area, more specifically in Chicago, Joliet, Rockford, & Rock Island. If anyone would like to look at the work outlook in the other locals throughout Illinois, we have copies at the referral counter for members to take with them.

Lastly, I want to wish all the Brothers & Sisters of Local 364 and their families, a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Larry Rowlett

The Sycamore Community Center has four members working for Swedberg Electric and is on track for a spring completion. JB Contracting is working at an expansion to the Menards in Sycamore and may be hiring a few more wiremen this winter. Morse Electric has reduced the crew size at the DeKalb County Jail addition. Brother Larry Harris continues to a great job as steward of this project.

The new Wellness Center at Kishwaukee Hospital is still wide open to the elements with a large portion of the building steel completed. Ballard Electric is working at the Stevens Building at NIU. Foundation work has begun at the addition to The Suter Company’s building on Bethany Road, where Special Power has been doing site work and temporary power. Next door to that job, Connelly Electric from Local 134 is working to have the new warehouse for Ignatius Press completed by the end of the year.

At the DeKalb Wastewater Treatment Plant, excavation work is in full swing. Tri R Systems from Local 701 has this project. The Cornerstone Project in downtown DeKalb has recently framed the fourth floor and Swedberg Electric will be onsite soon.

Morse Electric has been awarded the addition to Americold in Rochelle which should continue into next summer. Engel Electric is finishing the McDonalds remodel on 251. JB Contracting will be at a project at the Rochelle Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Construction has started on a new office and maintenance building for Nicor in the industrial park on the south side off 88 in Dixon. Benson Electrical Contracting from Local 117 is there doing site work. The precast walls are supposed to show up in the next few weeks and Benson is planning to hire a couple of wiremen for this job when the building is up.

Engel Electric continues work at the Halo project on LeFevre Rd in Sterling and at the Burger King remodel in Rock Falls. Complete Electrical Contractors will be at the field house addition at Challand Middle School. There is work at Dixon High School this summer that is currently in the planning stages. The Green River Wind Farm is still on track to begin construction in May of 2018.

Cypress Creek Renewables will be going through the process of obtaining a Special

Use Permit for a solar farm south of Forreston, in Ogle County. We will be attending the public hearings for this project and keep you informed of its progress. The Ogle County Board is also preparing for the construction of a new county jail in Oregon and have recently selected an architect for the estimated $25 Million building.

On November 8th, we held our tailgate party at the NIU Football Game. Due to the cold weather, the tailgate was moved into the Chessick Practice Center which made for an enjoyable evening. We would like to thank Brothers Dave McNamara and Shawn McGinn for their help arranging this event and look forward to next year’s game. The following night, we had a table at the Icehogs game where we were handing out information about our apprenticeship. Thanks to Brother Aaron Hafferty for volunteering his time to help out there.

I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas!

The last override veto session was Friday October 27th and once again we fell one vote short of banning Governor Rauner’s right to work zones but the mere fact that we had a bill presented shows that we do have friends in Springfield and those friends are fighting for us against a Governor who is near the end.

Speaking of downstate Governor Rauner, he visited Rockford in November blaming Mike Madigan for Illinois problems and urging state representatives in the house not to elect him speaker again. Well you can’t point a finger without pointing three back at yourself. As Rauner begins his campaign for 2018 he will be relentless in trying to blame Madigan for everything and cast himself as someone who is trying to fix what’s broken.

As we draw nearer to the Primary, March 20th look for endorsed candidate information coming from the hall. We urge everyone who can vote to get out and vote in this primary, some races can be won in the primary and if we can elect our labor friendly politicians to office, we can erase the last four years of Governor Rauner and his anti- worker anti- middle class agenda.

Lastly I would like to wish everyone here a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
